The 260 acres of Savannah Grass are the lungs of Port of Spain, Trinidad. A place of artistic expression and recreation. As a people we have shared so many magical moments in this sweet botanical, with each other and the world. We celebrate and honour all who make this place the source of culture and good vibes year after year. We go make them jump and free up!!
Big love and respect to Jelani "Pops" Shaw for this song and production. Vocal production by Neel Dwala. Mixed and Mastered by Johann Seaton of UR 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Thank you to Oliver Milne and Shane Hosein for believing in this dedication and directing and editing these amazing visuals in limited time. Thanks Timmy Mora for the additional classic footage. And Thank you 'Bunny', our Pops for planting the seed of culture in our hearts. We dedicate this to you. Love you ♥️

I CRIED! AT WORK ! listening to this! I dont know why but this made me think of growing up in St Lucia- the simple things that were so good then - getting a dollar from my grand father (RIP) to go buy a bag of plums. Sitting on the steps watching my grandmother cut breadfruit! This songs melody is so beautiful and joyful and sad all in one- it makes you appreciate and love your island and think about the simple things of drinking fresh coconuts and enjoying life and music with friends. I have heard this song already 27 times and I will continue to listen to it and cling to those memories it reminds me of! Thank you for this song!

The thing about this song is that this is a once in a lifetime song. It may not have won road march that year but it instills a different type of feeling in you. The emotions you get of pride, joy, peace, happiness and the feeling of unity you get will surpass any title. Years will come and go but this will always remain as one of the best Soca songs ever made. So many years later and you still get the goosebumps as if you're hearing it for the first time. 🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹🇹

Even though it lost to ‘Famalay’, for 2019 Road March Song, I think ‘SAVANNAH GRASS’ will be played and remembered longer. It’s a song that touches the soul, as the essence of T&T Carnival, like none of it’s rivals except maybe ‘So Long’ - just my humble opinion‼️

@@thetongueofangels1882 I'm a musician. I've been in reggae, funk and jazz bands since the 1980s. My current day job is listening and curating music for a major music streaming site. So I've been listening closely for a good 10-15 years. I've read (and listened) all about the Calypsonians Roaring Lion, Lord Kitchener, Might Sparrow, Black Stalin etc etc Kaiso, Rhapso, Chutney, Soca, Bashment, Jab Soca, Parang etc.etc. I am fascinated by the mix of cultures and music. The food must be amazing! I can hear a track and tell you which Caribbean island it came from with pretty good accuracy. I even understand most of the slang. A visit to TnT is definitely in my future.

This song is beautiful. I get emotional when I listen to it, and I understand and relate to their love and respect for the culture of Carnival. Culture is ancestral, and our Caribbean culture is the foundation of who we are as a people - our heritage, food, music, dance, art, speech and our resilience. I am from The Bahamas and Junkanoo is our love. It's our culture, our West African heritage, the gift our ancestors brought to the islands and left for us. Hold your culture close to your hearts my West Indian people! And tell the stories of your history so future generations know where they come from.🇧🇸🇧🇸

Writing from Barbados, just watching those clips from "old days" and hearing this song puts me in a happy place. Even though I have never been to Trinidad this song conjures up memories of years ago here in Bim. When I saw this vidéo tears filled my eyes. Seeing what I knew as Carnival as a child is no more. St.Clair is where I used to go to meet the J'ouvert truck to play myself. He is reminding us of where and what we came from as Trinbagonians as our culture and Tradition is DYING. This tune deserved Road march for me. People say times changing but it's not true the Sun rise and set is still the same but people want to change their mind set. But please people keep our culture alive because it's DYING 😢
