Jimin from the beginning of their careers was one of the most attacked members of BTS and all that hate affected him a lot, I feel that this MV is a catharsis of that past, how he leaves everything behind to be himself no matter what they say, what Even if you continue to receive that hate, you will no longer allow it to affect your life. It's beautiful, artistic and strong message.

I think they all went through cycles of hate, RM and Suga got plenty in the beginning, until they shut them up with AMAZING rap, J Hope got the worst of the hate, he left over it at one point. JImin has the most prolonged bath of it. I can't figure out why, except jealousy. I mean, he is an angel, and hard for guys to match, so I imagine, when guys are young, insecure, and are running into the Jimin effect with every girl they want to date at that age, it can lead to some hate. for guys, I can tell you, my ten yr old grandaughter might have touched on an explanation for this. She says when she grows up, she wants to marry a man like Jimin, who is kind and has nice manners can dance and is CLEAN! LOL. It wouldn't hurt western guys to step it up on the hygiene is all I'm saying.

Jimin is definitely breaking free from the confines of his own mind... his insecurities... .being okay with all sides of him... scene at the end, Jimin being lifted up looked so familiar. It's really reminiscent of John Constantine's "visit" to hell to find out if the twin sister was really there. That scene is truly epic, all those demons trying to pull him back To this day, my favorite movie that I keep watching every few years and still discovering new things. In Jimin's case, it now feels like instead of pulling him down, his demons are lifting him up. What's that saying : if you can't fight your demons, make friends with them? I think that's why he used his full voice in this song, and that's why we are all shocked, we were waiting for Jimin's sweet voice and him told us to go away with full voice and all the haters! He's a man he chooses to be, not one we decide. I'm really glad he slapped many in the face!! I love you jiminshii!!!! Some of the things I noticed throughout the video is that Jimin loses pieces of his costume little by little like his jewellery and shirt, as if he was "a burning phoenix shedding its feathers" and at the end you see him in all white like this is a celebration of rebirth. And the choreo at the end where the dancers lift him up is a reference to his choreo for his song Lie. In Lie however, even when his feet were on the ground he was still "caught in a lie" like still trapped and trying to fight it even as the performance was ending but now he's "finally free". Even in the beginning we can see that Jimin is in control as he controls the moves of the dancers - he is in control of his "shadow". And one thing I absolutely LOVE and won't shut up about is the use of autotune to represent his "shadow". In Interlude: Shadow by Suga and BTS's Black Swan autotune is used to represent their shadow. It's like there are two versions of Jimin (the rap parts and the singing parts) and Jimin faces his "shadow" in this song. I also love how it doesn't really sound like Jimin is pleading to be freed or asking to be free - He's demanding it after all he's gone through it's his right, he deserves it and he won't let anything stand in his way of getting it The painting on his chest is a German poem by Rainer Maria Rilke: I live my life in ever-widening circles that stretch themselves out over all the things. Jimin is one of the members who have the most haters, he got death threats and was ignored by a lot of fans, and everyone mocked his personality and voice and said he wasn't even a guy, many demanded to be removed from the group, the company tried to remove him 8 times, he passed out a lot after Performance or during training, he changed his appearance a lot. At first, they wanted him to have a manly image and to be the bad boy of the group. He followed a strict diet and workout , and got a muscular body at the age of no more than 17 years. Wow. I’ve watched Jimin’s video several times with different reactors and it never once occurred to me that “Set Me Free” is about to become the next LGBTQ anthem and I’m bi. Frankly, I feel like an idiot. In my defense, I am a 74 year old American woman who has been living in Europe for 37 years. (I moved to Germany with my female German partner when I was 38.) For over 25 years I have been living in the wilds of Sweden with my husband. But still, that’s hardly an excuse.
