Where Are We Now is actually a song talking not only about the disorientation of their life as a singer but also the confusion of their future as Mamamoo. 2021 is the seventh year of Mamamoo, they had been walking together for a long time, but everything just became so different from the time when they debuted. They all had different dreams, careers, and life. Time just ran so fast in these seven years that they could not realize the changes between them, between their relationship, and everything around them. Things became so much more complicated now. I think this song actually brought these four girls back together again to their starting point. They were able to stop and ask themselves, " we've came so far, but where are we now and where are we going?" I truly believe that this song is another starting point of Mamamoo. This songs was made by their tears, laughter, and their memories of the seven years. Although the future might be uncertain and they might sometimes feel lost, but they have each others. They are the strongest when they are Mamamoo. I am always teary whenever I listen to this song, because we all know how many difficulties they had been through to become this famous, successful and iconic legend in Kpop industry. I just wanna say that they always did a good job. I feel so lucky to meet these four gorgeous girls. I will always cheer for them as long as they are standing on the stage.

Same!! Especially when Wheein and Hwasa sings the last sentence "We both shared the same dream, where are we now?" 🥺 Also there are tons of Easter eggs on the MV for ex in the scene reminiscing of Solar's 'Spit it out' she has Hwasa, Wheein and Moonbyul's tattoos drawn on her, the moon in Wheein's scene is a reminder to the 'Starry Night' scene etc...

The very last line of "Where Are We Now", the Hwasa/Wheein duet, "On this beautiful star / the two of us shared the same dream / where are we now" is especially meaningful because Hwasa and Wheein grew up together, went to the same school, dreamed of becoming idols together, and landed in Mamamoo together. And this beautifully highlights their connection.

"Where are we now" is NEXT LEVEL,.... so STUNNINGLY emotional. They treated it like a single when it dropped. And people were in shock. like OH YEAH!!! they're the best singers EVER. Did anyone actually forget that? It also came at a time when we didn't think they were staying together. And it sounded like a last song or a break up song. No one really knew. But it definitely added to the emotion.
@cluster_f15752 жыл бұрын
Definitely! IIRC, this was the time when we learned WheeIn chose not to renew her contract with RBW so this very much felt like the end of the road for MMM. Just knowing their journey together & how they’ve remained such a tight-knit group makes this all more the emotional song that hits you in the feels.

Where Are We Now hits even harder with that final harmony between Wheein and Hwasa when they sing "on this beautiful star the two of us shared the same dream, where are we now?" especially when you know the duo's history. Wheein and Hwasa literally went to grade school and high school together, they're from the same hometown, and have been best friends since they were very young. They both auditioned together for RBW, got in together, trained together, and their dynamic is what inspired RBW's CEO to find members that matched their energy and create Mamamoo. When Hwasa was dealing with internet trolls about her looks, Wheein was there for her. When Wheein was under fire for some stuff her father did (who isn't even in the picture), Hwasa was there for her. They've been through thick and thin with one another. When Hwasa was dealing with anxiety, Wheein was there. Wheein working to cope with her depression, Hwasa was there. They've been with one another through thick and thin. This song was released at a time when their contracts were starting to end; and while Hwasa decided to continue both Mamamoo and solo promotions with RBW; Wheein decided to switch to another company for her solo work with only her Mamamoo promotions being done with RBW. So when they sing "on this beautiful star the two of us shared the same dream, where are we now?" they fully shared the same dream, lived it together, and their journeys are starting to move them away from each other. And so they ask themselves and each other, is our bond still deep? Are we still together? Will our journey end as we walk away? Or is our bond even stronger because no matter what ways our paths go, they will always converge at one point? Is our love for one another enough to conquer the different bridges we are both crossing? It's honestly so heart-wrenching and I love that harmony will all my being.

Where Are We Now was done for the group's Seven Year Anniversary last year (so it has been more than eight years since their debut as of now and obviously they have known each other from before that, so somewhere over a decade...). This song really hit WAY harder for people who were fans and stans from the very beginning or while the group was still trying to find their footing than the way it hit for newer fans. I am a newer fan (just a few years, nothing like the OGs who knew about the ladies from pre-debut) and this song hurt me, so I KNOW that longer-time fans were crying. It's really a soulful piece and it will be one of those legendary timeless masterpieces. It's about the members' collective friendship with each other (especially Wheein and Hwasa because they have known each other since middle school) and the rather rocky road they have had together (including arguing and even fighting with each other). But it's also about their perseverance; how they are still together, how they made it to the seven years together when so many other groups don't make it that long, how they beat a bunch of others in so many shows together (they proved so many people and companies wrong and are still standing). They got disrespected not only individually but also as a group but they are still here because they stayed together. It's BEAUTIFUL, and I cried the first couple of times seeing the MV. It's just as emotionally charged as Hwasa's solo song LMM. These ladies are Awesome, Amazing and just deserve all of the superlatives. Hwasa has one of the most flexible voices, I swear. Maybe she doesn't hit all of THE HIGHEST notes like some others (those would be Wheein and Solar's forte') but you can't argue with her low notes, as you have mentioned. Maybe she doesn't belt quite so BIG as others have (obviously Solar's specialty), but she has real RANGE to her voice, she can go big and harsh or she can go light and delicate, she knows how to be subtle. AND she can rap. Out of the entire group, she's my pick as the Vocal Swiss Army Knife (with Moon Byul right behind her). I am hopelessly OT4. I love every one of these ladies to pieces. I straight up cannot pick just one as a bias because they ALL are, they HAVE to be, because QUEENS. Luv ya both!

Great reaction! Wind Flower is my fave Mamamoo songs though all of their songs are my favorite it's just that wind flower hit differently. And same as you guys I did tear up a bit the first time Where Are We Now was release. It was a special song as it was from the album before their contract with RBW expires and we all know the 3 (Solar, Monnbyul, and Hwasa) renew their contract and Wheein decided to move to another label agency, but she had a special contract wherein if there are group promotions she will be readily available for Mamamoo that's how much committed she is to the group.

Wind Flower was shot in Hong Kong and one of the things it's doing is an homage to a famous noir director. The color palette many of the locations and scenes are taken from his films. It's my favorite MV of theirs. Where are We Now came out in early June. It's them singing about their experience over the previous 7 years. 6/19 was their contract expiration and Wheein had not signed. When I heard it I was really afraid they were disbanding and was an emotional wreck for over a week. Final gut punch was Wheein and Hwasa the two middle school friends harmonizing one the "We shared the same dream, where are we now?" The ice cream scene gave me some hope. Funny you have the videos ending in ice cream in this reaction. Mumumumuch finally healed me.

The ice cream scene from Where Are We Now is indeed a homage to Wind Flower. Actually, moomoos could find a lot of things/scenes from Where Are We Now as homages to their older hit songs since Where Are We Now is a song of their 7th years as Mamamoo, the end of their previous contract which gave them roads to go as a group or individuals. Btw, the cinematography & scenes in Wind Flower is based on Wong Kar Wai's films, a famous film director from Hong Kong, where they filmed this.

Like what a lot of the comments have said here, Where Are We Now is a song for their 7th year as a group. Idk if you guys are aware, but idol group contracts lasts for 7 years before the renewal period. This is why there's a thing called "7 year jinx" in kpop. Meaning a lot of groups don't really renew their contracts after, or maybe only some of the members only, causing for the group to continue on but w/o those who didn't renew. Some groups don't even reach the 7th year mark before they disband. This is why the 7th year is a very important for both groups and fans. Just like the title of the song, Mamamoo questions "where are we now?" at the point of their career as a group and as individuals. Personally, the last part hits very hard because the lyrics were "On this beautiful star, the two of us shared the same dream. Where are we now?" and it was sung by Hwasa and Wheein, who are childhood friends since middle school and dreamed of the same dream, and miraculously debuted in the same group.

Where Are We Now was a song that mamamoo dropped for their 7th year aniversary after a period of time where they were more focused on their solo careers. In fact, a documentary came out around the same time where it was revealed that they felt like they were growing apart, not because they cared less about each other, but because they had many things and people in between them. Wheein also left the company around this time so there was an overall sense of dread about mamamoo's future. When this song dropped it was very bittersweet for many fans as it felt like an ending. Now we can see that it was in fact a new beggining and a renewal. After this, the girls grew closer than ever before. They both found peace in their solo careers and realized that mamamoo as a group will always be their safe place and family.

But "Girl Crush" TOTALLY should have been a single. Where is the MV for "Girl Crush"?? It has a similar vibe to HIP,... and that's a huge hit. And they have so much fun singing it too. In the show it is coupled with their version of Pink Panties,... you gotta see them sing it to believe it. But the whole show is FIRE!!! They usually do it with a live band,.. live vocals,... just KILLIN it!!! Just to repeat, (in the category of "we do what the F we want to do") THEY COVER "PINK PANTIES", that catchy Blurred Lines thing. Who on earth WOULD,... and WHY ON EARTH would you?? WAW is a song that came in MAMAMOO’s 7th Anniversary after Wheein decided to part with RBW as a soloist but to stay as a part of MAMAMOO, and this song brought so much relief to me - MAMAMOO is OT4, they’re 4 as always. I was crying when I watched this video for the first time, it has so deep meaning to moomoos. HwaSa and Wheein are best friends since middle school and they decided to sing together no matter of what, and all the MMM girls had about 50 auditions but nobody wanted to take them in a debut group (what a crime!). And only CEO of RBW risked and created this gorgeous vocal group. As MMM didn’t suit Korean beauty standarts CeO said that girls need to perform like nobody could so they did! And money for girls’ trainings were brought back 4 months after their debut. MAMAMOO has one of the best career in kpop imho. And they are THE ONLY KOREAN GROUP every member of which was on first places in the World ITunes Chart as a soloist. My Queens now and forever❤ Many letters but Inlove these Artist sooo much since 2016 omg

Yeaayy.. Wind Flower. My first Favourite song from Mamamoo that makes me stan them 😉😄 Where Are We Now is a song in 2021, where Mamamoo and the Moomoos has the hardest time. This song is so emotional that it reflect the conflict in Mamamoo members heart. And to Moomoos, this song is like a goodbye song from Mamamoo worrying they might get disbanded. A little story for you guys, 2021 is the year where all members contract is finished. In the early year, Solar and Moonbyul renew their contract followed by Hwasa in middle of the year. But Whee In... she hold her contract and doesn't show any sign that she want to renew it. That moments is the hardest moments for Mamamoo especially Solar. She thinks a lot about the future of Mamamoo. And finallay Whee In decided not to renew and move to another company. Why she doesn't want will be talk in another occasion 😄

It was one of the last songs they put out with all of them being in the same company. It's talking about their journey as a group and how uncertain the future is. The final harmonization with Wheein and Hwasa is super meaningful since they've been together since they were 10 years old and the lyrics reflect their shared dream.

They're drinking, eating and having fun together in them all, while also playing games in three of them (the third one, "wind flower" era, was just them hanging out in a restaurant). There is also a much more recent honorary mention of a show called 'my shoulder is dislocated' (which is a popular korean drinking song). They're with three male hosts there, all idols of different generations, but wind up getting tipsy and letting loose there, as well

Windflower MV is inspired by Wong Kar Wai films. The parallels are amazing. There are Twitter threads that explains the connections well.

The way they dropped WAW when their contracts we’re about to expire and no one knew what would happen next was pure torture. Beautiful, gorgeous, heart wrenching torture ;___; There we’re tears when I saw the MV the first time and I still get close to crying when I watch it now…

Wind Flower definitely one of the underrated title tracks. It didnt get enough love like Starry Night and Egotisic. I believe they also took part in this song and I remember in one performance they were really disappointed on kpop community that Wind Flower wasn’t as popular but they did so much into it (Please correct me if I’m wrong)

No, you're right. All of their ballads have had disappointing results compared to their more upbeat songs, but I think that's just the nature of the business.

I agree. Blue;S was the least promoted album in 4S4C, MMM choreographed Windflower themselves (last title track they did personally before 1M was introduced in Gogobebe). The girls were already mentally and physically exhausted by then, and Windflower promotion was during year end, where more groups promoted + the year end awards + it being a ballad made it hard for Windflower to get any wins. :( However I feel MMM were heartened to know that WF is one of the most loved by Moomoos even up till now. ❤

Funny how ya'll watched Wind Flower & Where Are We Now together as both ended with an ice cream scene. Like WAWN actually directly referenced WF with that ending ang it was very emotional

08:33 those are Chinese characters for "Wind Flower." The MV was filmed in Hong Kong, so they probably incorporated that for the concept. Those characters were also on the cassette tape Hwasa put in at the beginning of the video.

You should take a look at "Paint Me" because it's such a great song and often overlooked by newer fans in my opinion.

Wind flower was a track that grew on me, Moonbyul’s rap is spot on as usual. Where are we now.. that damn song almost made or did make MooMoo’s cry. I just wish it had more Moonbyul.. thought I think all Mamamoo songs need more Moonbyul to equal out the distribution. Where are We Now is the title of an album that was just ballads and that is something I don’t think any other female KPop group has done. Be is promote a ballad or make an album of just ballads. The where are we now video had so many little Easter eggs in the camper trailer.I believe Solar was originally suppose to wear the dress Byul wears and vice versa, but instead Solar ended up in the sexy dress and Byul in the ruffle dress…

These two MV's were actually really fitting to be in the same video, since the ice cream scene in WAWN was a callback to Wind Flower. Looking forward to your deep dive!
