Psdt: there are korean tv shows that have some kind of games and gfriend invented three of them the blindfold dance, random play dance and x2 speed dance , but to make more dificult they combine the last two. And don't forget the japanese songs(memoria, flower and falling light) 😁

if i may drop some my fav B-sides recommendation for you to check out : - White (b-side for Glass Bead). This also have dance practice video - Under The Sky (b-side for Me Gustas Tu). i don't think they have choreo, but there's a video that they sang live by the pool. it's good. - Luv Star/ Trust (b-side for Rough). Luv Star is a fun song, while Trust more into ballad style. - Gone With The Wind (b-side for Navillera). It have music show live stage. where you can see they're really having fun on stage 😃 . - Crush (b-side for Fingertip). dance track. but i think there's only live stage clip available. - One Half (b-side for Love Whisper). sweet song that got me into them. have music show live stage. - Rainbow (b-side for Summer Rain). the only available clips is from live stage from concert or festival. - Love Bug/ Bye (b-side for TFTMN). Love Bug is a bright song. While Bye is a ballad (that hits me different after 2021). - Windy Windy (b-side for Sunny Summer). where Yuju hit an insane level of high note. - Only 1 (b-side for Sunrise). I think they do this song a lot on live stage. But personally 'You Are Not Alone" speaks to me on different level. - i have a hard time to pick B-side for Crossroad... i really like them all. 'Labyrinth' have performance video. 'Here We Are' is a strong song and lyrics. 'Eclipse' is beautiful. - Room Of Mirrors (b-side for Apple). just...chillllssssss - a lot of Mago's b-sides you need to check out. Secret Diary-Better Me-Night Drive are unit songs, and have music show's quality video. Me personally also like 'Three Of Cups'.

One thing I've noticed is that you can look at other GGs at the time and basically draw a line dividing their choreos into "before Gfriend" and "after Gfriend". Gfriend coming onto the scene was very much an "oh shit girl groups can do that?" moment and it put a ton of pressure on other companies to level up out of cutesy "stand in a line and do the moves" choreo. It really can't be understated how much of an impact Gfriend had on Kpop as we know it today.

That's totally true! Before Gfriend most girl groups choreos were so simple, with mostly simple arm movements, some formations, cute stuf and that's it. Even dancing like "soloists", with every member repeting the same move alone, without much interaction between the members during the choreo. After Gfriend they starting to incorporate more hard leg/foot movements, domino effects, imagery, intrincate hand moves, more interesting formations, and the most important for me, interaction between member, not only repeting the same move alone, but dancing together like a group (of course there are exceptions, but in general).

@Juan-ou1ve yeah I mean there were definitely still difficult choreos, but they were generally hard on an individual level without being complex in a wider sense. Like some of SNSDs tougher ones. The moves themselves were hard, but they weren't doing crazy formations or canons of anything like that.

back in those days, Source Music can't afford a dance teacher, and because of that the choreo was learned only by Sinb, and she taught the full choreo to the other members

They all learned their choreo from park junhee but when it comes to dance/singing lesson, yes only sinb (dance) and yuju (vocal) received training so they had to help the members. And because the company was too broke they didn't receive demo choreography from dance team like most groups do so they did it all by themselves, they would record the demo again and again until the company (with only 4 employees 🤡) approved the dance. Mind you they only recorded those demos on their choreographer's phone, there was this one time on their last shoot the phone battery died and they all cried bc it was already dawn and they were too tired from dancing demos all night.

Back in the day people would say GFriend changed the game for girl groups when it came to choreos because they debunked the idea that innocent/cute concept girl group dances can't be strong. Because before it was very attached to the concept like only girl crush groups were perceived as powerful and feminity and delicacy was seen as weak. GFriend debuted with strong vocals, strong choreos even when they looked fresh and innocent ❤

24:48 One thing i love about Heya is when yuju sings "heya heya" (sun sun) they circle their arms upwards to form a sun, "bwa ya bwa ya" (to see you) they cover their face with their hands and move away to see, and eunha sings 25:01 "잡으려할수록" (to catch you) pull from upwards , "멀어지고 있어" (you are parting away) like getting farther away. Like the reactor said choreo fits song so immaculately as wells the lyrics

Yuju once explained how they practiced the choreo, they practiced the full dance 7 times in a row without stopping then after a few minutes of break they practice the dance and the song 2 times singing and dancing at the same time. Also, you must know that their company was too poor to have a official choreographer so once the learned the choreography from the hired choreographer SinB (our main dancer) and Sowon(our leader) was responsible and supervised the other girls during the choreography practice, they also filmed the practice and send the video to the choreographer hired so he/she could monitor the girls progress and and correct any mistake next seance with them.

One thing about gfriend is that they are crazy over the details. One member’s hair flip a little late when they pause the dance practice vid, they will polish. One member’s skirt swayed a bit different, they will polish. One member’s hand kinda off angle, they will polish. They take pride in their choreo so much they practice endlessly to get these results. Also, I don’t think you’ve noticed but the 2nd verse of Love Whisper is actually an acrostic poem of YeoJaChinGu

@ In the grand scheme of things, yes, idols shouldn't be made to perform in such unsafe conditions. Someone could've gotten seriously hurt and have their career ended because of greedy promoters. However it does show how resilient the members are, which is the main reason why we got a comeback 4 years after their contract was terminated. Because they never give up.

One big factor in GFriend's early success especially coming from a small company is they had a video of a performance of Me Gustas Tu on a rain-slicked stage that went viral. What really impressed people wasn't the falls, it was that they kept getting back up and continued to perform even though it was obvious stage conditions were unsafe. It's sad that they were made to perform is such unsafe conditions, yet this is one of those viral bits of good luck that if you aren't with one of the major companies that you need to get the general public's attention. They were already doing well, but this helped them get noticed even more. There was a Big 5 of that generation of girl groups, Twice, Blackpink, and Red Velvet from Big 3 companies and GFriend and Mamamoo which were the scrappy talented contenders from small companies. Can you imagine a bg member tried minimising the complexity of this choreography when yerin was about to perform a snippet on a variety show after saying she hurt her ankle during practicing of love whisper and at the time was the choreography she found the hardest?😭 thankfully the king taemin from shinee recognised the detailed complexity of it and validated her but it was so crazy. I still haven’t forgiven that bg member although I love him and Stan his group😭🙃

God I forgot how much I loved watching GFRIEND's dances. They were SO satisfying, especially with the footwork. Sure some groups nowadays have much hard choreography but what they did was unheard of back in 2015 especially coming from a group with a "cuter" concept. And same, I can't help but look at their legs when they dance because their footwork was CRAZY. You are excellent consumers of choreography. When it comes to choreography, most would recall how synchronized Gfriend is without exception. However, what makes Gfriend's choreo mesmerizing is more than the technical precision between members and its demanding teamwork. You quickly zeroed in on the key reason why it is so satisfying to watch Gfriend's dance practice. I almost always have more intense interest in Gfriend's dance practice than their MV. Gfriend's choreo is always interpretive, expressive and lyrical. It's not intended as a feature to shine on its own (although it does), one would find the choreo an integral part of the performance, purposefully supporting the message of the associated song, producing a full-scale experience for the audience, slow or fast. For whatever reason Gfriend's music never much clicked with me but I have SO much respect for them and I will watch a dance practice from them any day of the week. As fellow enjoyers of choreo with great formations and super clean transitions, I have to recommend the dance practices of Oh My Girl (especially their debut), VIXX (especially Hyde), Boyfriend (especially their self-titled debut), OnlyOneOf (blOssOm particularly), and Verivery (any song tbh but Alright pops off)

Hi, im new here. Glad you are enjoying the very group that sent me into the kpop rabbit hole. I would love to see you two eventually check out their b-sides. You will be in for a treat. Also their performance videos are the chef's kiss. If you want to see their b-side choreographies, their concerts for each season are posted along with a few special stages. Can't agree more with you when you said they don't make choreo like this anymore. Nowadays idols and choreographers always prioritze dance that can mass copied for tiktok, shorts, and reels rather than interpretation or fitted choreo. Even most of the known Cheoreographer admitted that they has to make sure that the dance they make for idol can be used for tiktok otherwise, their choreo will less likely got chosen/being sold to an entertainment agency or idol. Example of people that have clarified these is Lachica Gabee, Lia Kim, and Baek Koo Young.
