Hey I’m thinking about getting this soon. Regarding the clip registering as a shot, maybe if you put a piece of hook and loop (soft loop side) and stick it to the body of the kestrel so the clip contacts the patch instead of the plastic body, it may potentially soften the sound and not register a shot. Clearance may be an issue but it’s worth testing out. Could be a quick cheap solution to that problem.

Thanks for watching and your comment! Yes, I agree with possibly trying that. What I've tried to do is place the timer on a table/ladder close to my right side at the level I'm taking the dry fire shot; that helps, but isn't perfect. I know it's difficult for any timer to truly pick up a dry fire 'click' (and differentiate that from the sound of a gun coming out of a plastic holster) and may be something that isn't really practical in spite of the efforts of companies trying to make a timer that works for dry fire. What I do like about this timer is that you can adjust the sensitivity almost infinitely which is helpful if you're picking up echos or missing shots.

The all pick up shots when the belt clip snaps back. It's a noise. If it didn't pick up those kinds of noises, it would be useless in dry-fire.

You can set the sensitivity level beyond just “pistol” or “rifle”. There’s a setting in the preset screen.

Thanks for watching! Yes, I saw that and read about it in the manual--but the set number for regular shots is "15000" and it goes well above that and down to zero--so I don't like that. I have no idea how far to adjust it. The manual says for louder shots go up on the number and quieter shots go lower--but with way too much adjustability that would get frustrating and I don't know would solve the problem of picking up the click of the belt clip.

Did you consider MDT shot timer?

Thanks for watching! Yes, but 2 problems I had with it: 1) I don't like built-in rechargeable batteries (difficult to replace when they no longer hold a charge). 2) It's been discontinued, so if you have one, great, but at least with the Kestrel, ,they'll work to improve the current model (I hope). Check out the bottom of the MDT website where it says once they're sold out, they'll be discontinued under "Product Details": mdttac.com/mdt-training-shot-timer/

@@docgsreloading7985 Shooter's Global made a clone of one which they merged with MDT so their app's not subscription based anymore but they amped up the price to 299. Ditto on the rechargeable battery, I hopefully battery replacement isn't too bad with a bit of soldering.
