Your doctor telling you that your cholesterol level has gone up can be scary. Your doctor telling you that you need to take a Statin for your cholesterol can be terrifying.
Let me calm your fears and tell you exactly what you should worry about with respect to the risk of heart attack and stroke. It's not what you think, and it's not what you've probably been told.
There is a huge paradigm shift in medicine and nutrition. We have all be tricked to fear saturated fat and cholesterol, and now we are slowly realizing that neither of these nutrients is dangerous.
Here are 3 books which will explain in detail the facts about cholesterol and saturated fat...

I drove too, for about 3 years over the road. I was overweight already, and I gained 80lbs in 3 years. Horrible food, no exercise. Last year my Dr prescribed metformin for diabetes. I took it for 2 days and saw some videos by Dr Berry and Dr Jason Fung on intermittent fasting. Stopped taking the metformin immediately and started low carb and IF. Initially it wasn't full blown Keto, just low carb. I lost about 45 lbs in 10 months, but kind of stalled there. I went Full Keto and OMAD and started losing again. Down about 75lbs total now and my A1C is now under 5. Still got about 50 more pounds to go to get to my goal weight of 175. Thanks to Keto and OMAD, I actually believe I'm going to get there.

@@junacalica4517 Your Total Cholesterol isn’t a useful marker. Monitor Triglycerides and HDL. Funny enough, if you eat very low carb as Dr. Berry suggests, your triglycerides will lower and HDL will raise… as it is supposed to do. LDL-C is also useless. You want to test the type of particles. Hopefully, you asked for a copy of your lab results, including reference ranges. (It is your legal right to get your lab results). Then look for yourself. Statins don’t help; more harm especially to women.

The fact that healthcare practitioners wonder why patients are non-compliant but never think to ask is very telling. I just shed my immunologist because she takes personal offense when I refuse the litany of prescription meds she offers (I was receiving allergy shots for tree allergy). She tells me that sometimes "knowing too much is not good, my Drs are the experts and I should learn to behave like a patient." I'm a disabled RN (under 60yrs) and my quality of life and course of disease management is sub-par. I take one medication as bandaid for a symptom and two more medications for the side effects caused by the original medication. I lost it after 3 yrs and loudly told her about herself in January and one week ago I just came off an antidiabetic drug, while still on inhaled steroids. I'm going to improve my health status without her and with my determined change in eating habits and avoidance of toxin laiden lifestyle.

My short story - 73 years - 270 lbs. and a life long lover of carbs - I found your site 7 days ago (virus lockdown) - I have been binge watching your video's. Fasting today and I at 16+ hr.'s. and it's not a problem (never have done this) - 0 carbs in 6 days - 0 sugars in 6 days - I am free, free of that old life style. I take ACV w/ 8oz water 3 times a day (that help w/any hunger pains) I am down 7 pounds. One of the most noticeable feeling is that this morning I had zero back pain. I got out of bed and could not believe how much better I was. I have resisted the VA Doctors spine fusion for years. I did not take my reg. dose of Hydrocodone. I want to thank you. It's hard to express how your information is changing my life. I can't wait to do my labs next month at the VA. Bless you! I'll keep you updated !

I’m down 60 lbs. the one thing I didn’t know was the cost of clothing- I have lost 10 inches belt size - Now with winter in MN. I will not worry - baggy clothes are in vogue. I got my first complete blood work up at the VA since the COVID-19 crap and I classification of Type 2 Diabetes is gone ~ Dr was impressed w/ my report he said he couldn’t believe the #’s - he cannot remember seeing such large change - I have been going through a separation event in my life and basically been living out of 2 suitcases and a couple of bags but now I’m home again and will continue my weight loss journey- - I have been struggling with sugars late at night so I have delayed my supper until 7 or 8 pm - Fasting in AM until afternoon. All the years of poor choices in food are still a challenge - I walk about 4 + miles every other day and that helps clear the mind!

I am so thankful to find your videos. I have been a type 2 diabetic since 1997. It started as gestational diabetes while pregnant with my first child, then it came back full time after my 3rd child was born in 2004. I feel so upset at the lies I have been told over the years from doctors and nutrition classes. The last 10 years I have been desperate to lose weight trying everything. I love to exercise and for the last 5 years I have been going to the gym at 5:00 am to help lose weight. I have not lost 1 pound in 5 years. I will say it has helped my blood sugar to be somewhat lower. I have tried every diabetic medicine and after countless UTI’s, stomach issues they gave up and put me on metformin and insulin. And then it seemed as if I was gaining weight no matter what I did. My feet would hurt like they were inflamed all the time. I was tested for neuropathy but told I didn’t have that I had some thing called reynauds syndrome. They told me to keep my feet and hands warm and I would be fine. Well to this day they hurt and burn all night. I’m sure it’s inflammation. I take a handful of pills every night and my doctor says i need it all for prevention because of my family history. I have always thought why am I taking cholesterol medicine and high blood pressure pills when I have never had those things. Finally my doctor gave up on me and my complaining and told me the only thing I can suggest for you is gasteral bypass surgery. I’m probably about 50 lbs overweight. I thought you had to be like a 100 lbs over weight to have that surgery. At first it seemed so drastic to me but I will have to admit about a month ago I felt desperate enough to inquire about it. I didn’t do it but I can’t explain the amount of desperation I feel. I am trying my hardest to do keto and I have lost 4 lbs! I also stopped taking my insulin and have kept my blood sugar at a even healthy level. I WILL NEVER TAKE INSULIN AGAIN IN MY LIFE NO MATTER WHAT ANYBODY SAYS. They made me feel like I would die without it. I still take the 2000 mg of metformin and I would like more info on how to gradually get off that and also get off some of my other medications. If you could address that in a video that would be wonderful. Thanks again for all your help. You are literally saving lives. Tonia

Watched this after a blood panel. My Doctor is saying my cholesterol is high and we have to do something about it. Been keto since 2015 and am 52 now. Am 6’ 3” and 180 lbs. I have bp of 110/70 and fasting blood sugar in high 80’s each morning. I told him “who cares about cholesterol over 200 if I feel this good?” He keeps calling about it!!! I should be on “stupid or” 🤣 Thanks so much for this video

Do happy to find your channel. My doctor prescribed Atorvadtatin. and valsartan hctz years ago. Recent events in my life and flu events have changed my trust level. Last year I decided that I need to find natural solutions to replace the pharma meds. I stopped the Atorvadtatin because felt cloudy couldn't remember things. Within a week my memory improved. Overall, I felt fine. About 6 months ago I stated keto. Keto felt right for me. I've cut fast food, processed foods, cut grains way back, so keto was too hard. My point is went to doctor last week. He did a CBC, another test non fasting which checked colesterial. My colesterial was 200 . If had been 102 last time checked. Doctor called me later that day to tell me he has ordered double th dosage of Atorvastatin (40mg). I reminded him that I stopped that med and why. He said the mud won't cause that symptoms. No discussion of diet or exercises. Will not be taking the mud. I've increased my exercise, more prebiotics. Thank you for sharing your knowledge

@@aidanpoulter9514 I run the sink water until it’s really warm and then put the eggs in to boil them. That makes it faster to get the boiling instead of waiting for cold water to get hot. Then I watch it and when it starts to boil, I set the timer for 5 minutes. Also because it’s now boiling, I take the temperature down from high to about 7 or 8, which is about medium or between high and medium. Then when 5 minutes is over, I take them and run cold water on them until just right to handle in my hands and peel them. I actually cut them in half to add butter and it gets melted and with salt is soooooo good. I only eat eggs this way it’s the best. But also omelets is good because I can add things like fresh chopped tomatoe and whatever, maybe even some cheese 😁

I also use the VA also and its shameful how they practice. I've had high cholesterol my entire life, its was 137 when I was 18 then went into the service it jumped to 252 when I was in my 20's...its gone up and down for 20+ years never below 200. When My dad died of a heart attack his was " high" but never above 200 he was on a statin...I love Dr. BERG, BERRY, BERGMAN, SINATRA, Fung...the list is pretty long. They all are saying the same thing. I have started a Mediterranean based diet, but eliminated breads and super high carb fruit. My last visit with my doctor at VA I told her that I'm not taking a statin. They have never done the particle test, or the calcium test, or the ultra sound, before prescribing the drug. They are basing my dads death and a lipid panel on my risk, they didnt even look into why my cholesterol is high to begin with...and seriously what constituents state what is "normal". If the FDA, AMA, etc requires proof that this or that is right or wrong, normal or abnormal, than SO DO I! Do the damned tests, until then stick your statin straight up your butt! Dr. BERRY IF YOU SEE THIS I WANT AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOU! I'm in the Nashville area.

She told me I was eating too much meat. I told her I went from SAD (Standard American Diet) to a complete water fast for 8 days so how could it be MEAT?!? Insert the sound of crickets chirping here.... total silence. Yet every time I go in it's the same thing, "Your LDL and triglycerides are terrible, you need to stop the meat and take Stupidor." Now, in fairness to the VA, I get EXCELLENT eye care with them. All my life I've had eye problems and the VA is ON THIS. BTW each VA is different... A little knowledge is dangerous. A well read doctor will tell you recent studies show that statins perform a role of anchoring/stabilizing regions of plaque buildup by affecting the arterial lumen. While Dr B is absolutely right about the CAUSE of the buildup (which is what he was talking about...essentially diabetes and its onset), IMO you're ("we"? Is he on life support to where he's incapable of making his own health decisions?) writing hubby an Rx for a stroke if he's been diagnosed with atherosclerosis. I'm not a doctor, but know what my doc, the chief of cardiology for a large healthcare outfit, told me.

He can take the statins while adopting a low carb lifestyle at the same time. I am an MD and would NEVER take a statin. Unfortunately it is one big scam. I would venture to say the majority of MDs just listen to what the good looking drug rep states about efficacy. This is twisted and they compare relative risk and not absolute to make it look like a 40% improvement when it is actually less than 1%. Check out youtube talks by Dr. David Diamond. He goes through all this.

Another great video Dr. Berry! My provider is pretty decent and does at least listen to me but he still freaked a bit at my LDL going up 100 points after a year on a LCHF diet (it was already flagging pretty "high" since I quit a statin 3 years ago). With some persuasion I got him to order an actual NMR. This read my LDL even higher (a few points north of 300) but not a single one of my actual particle counts flagged outside of spec. My triglycerides were in double digits (down from north of 200 on the SAD). My HDL was 76 (up from the low 40's on the SAD). At 5'11" I've gone from a blubbery 232lbs to an almost lean 176. My blood pressure, which was never super high, is the best it's been in 30 years at 110/68. Upon receiving the NMR results my doc then wanted to send me to a "vascular specialist," calling my cholesterol "horrendous." 😂😂😂. I told him to relax and look up what a "hyper responder" is in the low carb community and that I'd just roll the dice and we could do a CAC at next year's physical if he wants (I had one 3 1/2 years ago and scored a big fat ZERO, which was the final prompting to get off statins after 20 years). It really is sad what Big Pharma and Big Food has done to human health! Keep fighting the good fight!

She was upset that he yelled at & was upset with her (since he already knows she doesn't want to take cholesterol meds). She has an appointment with a doctor Monday who is a keto friendly doctor, so hopefully that doctor will be able to give her more information on what she should do.

How has it been with the new doctor?
@Sheryl777
@Sheryl777 7 ай бұрын
@@Redknuckles Thank you for asking. So far really good. The first visit with the new doctor went well...all my daughter's other tests came back really good, and she was told by the doctor that at this time her high cholesterol wasn't an issue that needed to be dealt with. My daughter has not been back to see the new doctor a second time as of yet. Travel time to get there is one issue, but there hasn't been any real need since the first visit to go back yet since she was mainly wanting to find out if her cholesterol was a problem or not. I will ask her if she is going back soon or not though, since I am not really sure of her plans regarding that. She has talked about going back to get blood work again, so we shall see I guess.

Mine insisted I stop keto and embrace a low fat, low salt diet even though my sodium level is on the low side of normal. She didn't even comment on my potassium level which is lower than my sodium, thus out of balance with sodium. Oh, and she said to eat corn flakes for breakfast and have one dessert a day. I just smiled.

I have had bypass surgery in 2014 and had a pacemaker put in. One year post op, took the statins and ate low fat and low salt. Ended up feeling like sh-t. Starting in 2015, went high fat, low carb, put the statins in the garbage, and I can say I Have never felt better in my life. Btw, all of my life I was low fat and ate the 7-10 servings of grain ended up needing a quintuple bypass. Sugar and carbs are deadly NOT cholesterol. Thank you DR BERRY for going speaking the truth.

LOL! You would give her a stroke doing that, Bill. Manny, I was on the low-fat diet for years following my doctor's (of that time) advice and it wrecked my health. I had just had my last baby and he suggested that I needed to lose weight. I agreed, so I was off on this new lifestyle change. That was 25 years ago. Now I am trying to recover what was done to me through terrible advice. Educating myself is step one. Step two is implementing what I've learned. I have a long ways to go, but the journey begins with the first step and I am on my way now.

Dear wonderful Dr. Ken, this video is spot on!!! I have been on keto 7 weeks. Lost 7.5kg and 7cm off my waist as well as 3 percent of body fat. My ldl to hdl doubled from 3.2 12 months ago to 6.4 yesterday's test. I am dreading a visit to my GP as it will surely be conversation about statins. Best wishes and love from London. Appreciate any comments.

Since being on keto, my cholesterol numbers have gone off the charts. My docs (heart and pcp) tried me on every medicine .. even the ones without statins and I could not tolerate them. This week they called and wanted me to have a lipid apharesis to suck most of the cholesterol out... I have opted not to after watching your video. Thank you to you and Neisha for all y’all help. God bless you and your family.

Couple of days ago I got bloodwork checked after about a year of transitioning to low carb and since February 1st just meat eggs salt water coffee. Total cholesterol more than 400, LDL a oittle over 300, HDL 67, triglycerides 107. Not scared, not concerned, not agitated. Im feeling lighter healthier greater than ever, sleep is deep and easy and waking up I jump out of bed which is a miracle. No question here. I just owe so much to people like this precious person Ken Berry for educating simple people like myself. Keep it up doctor, you are helping the world change! Greetings from Greece!

Thank you so much Dr KenDBerry💓💓

Thanks for the usual great content Dr Berry. I have consistent high ldl numbers that hover just under 500. I do get my bloodwork done twice per year and these numbers have been consistent for over 5 years now since I started a ketogenic lifestyle that was very strict that turned into a full on carnivore lifestyle of predominantly beef and fat for the last 3 years. This video comforts me in feeling that Im on the right track.

You are high risk for cardio vascular disease, fact. Please research this more as all the lab trials have shown high LDLc is a direct risk factor. Ken Berry hasn’t supported his opposing theories with equivalent evidence he just talks and often at the end asks for money, I think you can work out for yourself his real motive

I have developed the same high LDL problem on carnivore after 3 months. Just over 400. What kind of test can one get to determine if it is because of that Familial High Cholesterol condition? My HDL is 109, triglycerides are 53, and VLDL is 11. No one really talks about LDL being this high.

An excellent explanation, giving me some hope. I'm on a Keto program and only a week ago my doctor told me he wants to put me on a statin. I said no, so he said statins are not that bad and that he'll give me one more month and if my cholesterol doesn't improve, I will be put on medication for it. Two days ago I cancelled my next appoinment with my doctor and am grateful I found your video. Thank you Dr Berry, you've put my mind at ease.

Thank you so much for all of your research, dedication, & videos. It is so refreshing to have an actual doctor promote this lifestyle. After much of my own research, dietary trial & error, fluctuations & countless journals of every facet of my mental & physical health, KETO is 100% the gold Standard, in my humble opinion. Your videos are incredibly informative, & most importantly, effortless to listen to & absorb. Today's a rainy Labor Day in East Texas, & I'm gleefully binge listening to your KETO videos while cleaning my house. 😁 You're fantastic. Thank You!

It was rough in the begining but now things are even looking better. I was doing ok on ketos but I still had a few stomach issues. Going 100% carnivore has helped me a lot with my digestive issues. I’m a heart attack survivor and I’ve always been told that my cholesterol numbers were the issue, fact is I’ve always loaded up on carbs good and bad but was never warned about it by anyone in the healthcare industry. I wholeheartedly feel my poor junk food diet and alcohol use lead to my poor health and not the meat. with so much back and forth on this issue it’s tough for me to make a informed decision that may just save my life. We need the truth from the people we depend on for our health care decisions and sadly we’re not getting it especially from my cardiologist who saved my life.

Thank you! I was worried because my doctors made me worry. I needed to hear this! That said, I am fasting 18 hours Monday thru Friday and I do Keto. I eat clean using only avo, and olive, oils. I’ve lost 12 pounds in two weeks. More than 3 inches. I have herniations was using pain pills on and off. I have been pain free since day 2 of doing this. I haven’t needed any Tums; my go to almost everyday! I stopped because the doctor told me no and no cheese no dairy at all. Moderation is key! I am on it again as of tomorrow.

While my Dr. was concerned that my LDL level jumped from 80 to 218 on LCHF eating, he also said that for every point your HDL was above 40 your cardio risks dropped 2%. Mine went from 39 to 62 in the same time frame. Triglycerides dropped to 64 or -133% from previous levels.
