Looks like a cool product. I like mackie gear but my only issue is their atrocious support of products. I have blackbird interfaces and they work great, solid build. Mackie put out maybe two driver updates and they were done. Just something to keep in mind about mackie.

Thank you for your in-depth review! I just bought the showbox - mainly for playing small wedding ceremonies with my acoustic duo without needing my column PA (MAUI11) and my seperate mixer. First field test will be a wedding this saturday. After the ceremony, I'm planning to use the Showbox as a mixer and monitor for the MAUI during our cocktail hour session. By connecting the MAUI to the headphone-out, the volume level for the Showbox and the MAUI can be set independently. Since we have 2 vocal mics, 1 Guitar and 1 Stompbox, the Showbox mixer will be just perfect. Having compressor and reverb/delay is awesome, since needing those effects was the main reason for buying my seperate, mixer (Phonic Celeus 600) back then. SD Recording, looper (for soundchecks!), tuner, snapshots/presets - very nice! Greetings from Germany

Are you liking it so far? Is it loud and crear enought for a duo set outdoors?
@furstl19 күн бұрын
Yes it's great! I've never tested it on a completely open field, but so far it has worked for smaller garden gigs and a graduation ceremony inside a school yard (corner). The box had always been placed directly on the ground. What really surprised me was that it could handle a wedding ceremony inside a medium sized church (stone). During our soundcheck the priest even told us it was too loud! We also didn't use external Power. When playing loud, I've noticed that the feedback eliminator is too sensitive and ducks/limits the pretty much the whole output significantly, so most of the time it's turned off! Soundwise it's pretty clear. The mid-eq frequency is very high (too high imho). Controlling the lower mids can sometimes be difficult.

@@furstl Thank. you for the quick reply! Currently I have an everse8 for busking but, despite the great reviews around it, I'm not satisfied sound wise. The volume is super loud but In my opinion the sound falls apart at a certain level, it's very thin and harsh on the highs. I ordered the Showbox not to get a super loud volume, but in order to peform with my acoustic duo easily and with a good sound. I hope it will satisfy this expectations!

I bought one and had to send it back. Not loud enough and was way too mid range with very little low end. Advertises as working for small bands but I'd say that's a stretch. I wanted to use it for a two piece (vocalist and myself on guitar) with backing tracks and found it would not be powerful enough even for smallish bar gigs. It's a shame as it's a great idea and the build quality and innovation on the mixer was really good. If they could do something similar perhaps on a bass amp and column speaker with a lot more power and volume, I'd be sold.

I went down the Bose S1 pro + route and one speaker isn’t enough push for even a small bar so ended up using another powered speaker with it kinda defeating the object. So you have saved me the hassle big thank you for your comment

I just ordered mine on Wednesday and I wasn’t happy with it I previously had free play live I upgraded to showbox because I thought hey same features but just louder but I was wrong the moment I connected my phone and turned it all the way up and it wasn’t as loud for the size of the speaker I even questioned it was the same capacity to the free play if not a bit quieter than it but I was disappointed I’m going to return it

Your comment about the headphone input , SD card slot having them included in the remote control panel made sense . I loved the way you did your review video here . My concern is and I hope you can get back to me on this is how I wish Mackie or any company there will come up with a unit like this they had at the most 3 mic or vocal inputs instead of only 2 inputs . I do music each week with my daughters . We are a trio group . I am actually on the lookout for one that has this feature in time for a gala event on October . I know that if I use the second vocal input using a splitter cable to accommodate another singer it’ll affect the signal . I hope you can give your opinion on my concern . Thank you .

Buy a separate mixer and plug it into the battery powered speaker of your choice.

I don’t see a switch for phantom power, so am guessing you are limited to using a dynamic mic, rather than a condenser mic (unless you’re also running a mixer or injector). Have been considering the eV 8 for use with a small condenser mic on an alto sax, and would also accept a line input from a wind controller. Thanks for the demo.

The features are top notch, but the live sound lacks for me. I have been gigging my EV Everse 8 and now the new Everse 12 for about 200 gigs. The EV models sound much fuller and louder than the Showbox. I love the Showbox's breakaway mixer, Recording feature, and Live streaming, but for me if it doesn't sound great LIVE, then it won't work for me. I still own the Showbox, and may sell it, but I will hold onto it for while to use as a recording device. I tried using the mix out to my Everse 12, but it sounded bad just louder. Oh well,,,

There's only 1 input for a foot pedal. It's obviously for a stereo jack connector. But how does the Showbox know that you are not going to turn FX 1 or 2 on on off but you are going to use the foot pedal for your loop sessions? Thanks

That green cable shooting out from the front side witch is pointed to the audience is so stupid,they should make it on a lower part of the mixer running directly to the floor,and black color.

Good overview! Would you know if the 2 mike inputs will accept electric guitar/keyboard? I need instrument inputs more than microphone. The Thump Go i own has a combi-jack with a switch to choose mike or line for impedance matching. I don't see that on the Showbox. Would you or anyone know if instruments work properly on those channels?..Thanks for sharing!

I don’t understand how the stereo input (5&6) work. Can i have a electric drums in line 5 and a keyboard in line 6 if inputs 1-4 are already taken? Hope that question makes sense. I play around with my kids and we incorporate guitars and mics as well as a keyboard and drums. This would potentially solve every instrument we use with one unit
@kettnercreative8 ай бұрын
You could. But you wouldn’t get independent volume control. If you’re recording, one of the inputs would panned left, the other right.
@benjaminmetz58458 ай бұрын
@@kettnercreative Thanks for the reply. I found your review very helpful and so far the best out there for the showbox. Is the clip that holds the breakout mixer stable ? Meaning if it is bumped, will it come off, or is it Locked on the clip?
@kettnercreative6 ай бұрын
It screws onto a mic stand, and relies on gravity to hold it to the clamp. It would take a really big hit to knock it off though. Your mic stand would be on the ground before the mixer pops off.

Hey bud. Do you know if someone could use this mackie showbox with the new Ed Sheeran looper?
@kettnercreative8 ай бұрын
Depending on how you use the looper. If you're just connecting a stereo output from the looper to the stereo input on the Showbox, it would work. If you're using the bigger looper that he uses on stage, I believe that unit has 4-6 XLR outputs, and you'd run out of inputs on the Showbox.

WHy don't these companies ( i.e: Mackie, Bose, JBL ) ever think that a KEYBOARDIST or SYNTHESIST might want to use something like this to play out? ONLY Guitarists need apply! Wake up Mackie, Bose and JBL your snubbing a significant market share of potential customers by ignoring KEYBOARDISTS/SYNTHESISTS! Make a version with drivers optimized for keyboards/ synths and having line inputs ( mono and stereo ) capable of accepting keyboard and synth line outputs! How hard is this to do?

However it’s mainly impossible to plug a keyboard or synth plus bass especially and guitar into a Portable PA or a Mixing Console because these are high impedance signal that the DI Box can work succesfully parallel 1.) Keyboard1/4” TS if yours has this output . Then the other end of the DI Box is a Balanced Mic Cable OUT To>>>> The XLR Balanced. Mic INPUT on the Portable PA , in my setup it is Loud at 112DB. Potentially . The DI Box is conducive to the sound source . I have an old Roland PA60 and you know those label hand tools to print out plastic labels ? Across the Channels on one channel there was the label synth . , etc . And they were all front and back 1/4” Inputs up front and Speaker 1/4” Out from the back. Old stuff and I’m not getting in your way of your choice . This works for me .And ! I have 4x12 Beringher Cabinet that has Mono and Stereo Switch . I bet you love your sounds and can belt out some keyboard sound . I mispelled the 4x12Cabinet Manufacturer .
