Ok, 4 the younger generation, her biggest hit was "Love Letters Straight From The Heart,' in 1962. The song was also a hit for Nat king Cole in 1957.

tinascaravans : Thanks for your information; however, I don't think you should just restrict it to the "younger generation," b/c there may be some older ones who don't know either. As popular as Mahalia Jackson was, I've met quite a bit of the "older generation" who haven't heard of her, which was quite shocking to me at the time. Regarding "Love Letters Straight From The Heart," prior to learning about Ketty Lester, I had heard Elvis Presley's rendition. I didn't know Ketty's existed.
@tinascaravans9 жыл бұрын
Those people who didn't know Mahalia, where were they from Rattlesnake Mississippi. Never heard Elvis's version, will have to check it out. I grew up on Ketty's version.
@Rowoches9 жыл бұрын
tinascaravans : Lol! I have no idea of where the people were from, but over the years, I've met several people in different areas that haven't heard of Mahalia.

i never knew there was a sitcom of Brewster Place.
@tinascaravans9 жыл бұрын
TheKingJacob1 No, "Brewster Place" was not a sitcom, it was a made for TV movie which aired in 1989, starring Oprah Winfrey, Robin Givens, & Cicely Tyson.
@Rowoches9 жыл бұрын
TheKingJacob1 : Yep, it only lasted a few episodes though.

tinascaravans : "The Women Of Brewster Place" was originally that 2-part tv movie with Oprah, Cicely Tyson & Robin Givens. People loved it so much, they decided to make it into a TV show, called 'Brewster Place'. The series didn't do too well. It only lasted several episodes. This clip comes from 1 of those episodes.
@Rowoches9 жыл бұрын
tinascaravans : The episodes can be purchased on DVD. There's a picture of Oprah & the lady who plays Etta Mae; not Jackee' Harry, on the front cover. During the series, Mattie and Etta Mae owned a restaurant.
