Had one of these with a seat for my then 3 year old. Took it everywhere and loved it. Stolen in Portland! Four years later we still think about that beautiful bike.

I have had this bike for a few years now and wanted to weigh in on the comment section in case anyone is still watching. After some initial tweaking (due to some parts being assembled upside down and backwards) it has been very reliable and fun. I haven’t used it a lot mostly due to the fact that it tips the scales at 50lbs, and I’m no flyweight either. But I have ridden around the neighborhood to pick up my car at the shop, etc. I have used the (tiny) basket more than I expected. No complaints, especially since I paid $75 on clearance.

What I like most about KevCentral is that he is not a bike snob. He can give credit where credit is due. Plus he can appreciate a bike that doesn't come from a true bike shop. I would hate to see what something comparable would cost at a bike shop. Curious to see how things play out long-term. I'm guessing it should be just fine.

@@kzooswift3362 Just got some "good service" at a bike shop. Received an original estimate for $60 for a tune-up and cleaning of the drive train. by the time I'd picked the bike back up a week later, it was almost a hundred dollars. Granted there was a couple other things wrong with it (they replaced the chain); but there does seem to be a slight change-of-tune between the original discussion concerning a non-LBS brand bike (and what they can/will do for you), and when you actually bring it in for service, which could probably be at least partially attributed to the "bike snobbery" factor. Or do bike shops normally use WD-40 on their high-end in-house rides?

The big difference with a bike shop bike is not always price. You can get a 130 dollar bike from a bike shop with the major difference being that a professional adult assembled not a Chinese kid and the fact that you are supporting businesses other than wal mart.

because the stem bends by climbing a hill , coaster brake will eventually lock up and destroy the brake arm , crank arms bends , pedals will stop turning in under 2 year , chrom peels , just every single part is pure crap , not to mention they barly put any grease in the bearings if bought pre assembled

I just bought one ( charcoal color with tan rubber wheels ) I ordered it unassembled because it’s going to be shipped overseas to the Marshall Islands 🇲🇭 where bicycles are the primary means of transportation, or you can walk if you desire. The atolls there are flat and little inclination if any at all , and having a simple bike with coaster brake is highly recommended, due to the fact that excessive salt air is known to wreak havoc on multiple speed bicycle mechanisms ( and brake cables etc...) and the longevity of your bike won’t last as long as this solid and simple cruiser design. I will have peace of mind knowing that I assembled it myself , and I’m sure it will get me back into shape lol 😂 low maintenance and well built bike , I love it , and it’s timeless fashion. Nice video ! Thanks for sharing 👍

Nice bike that's really meant for the beach crowd. Those bikes are in force all along the east coast beach areas and its worth it for that price. You have to tighten a nut to get the bike to lock up and its a easy fix. Good review because there are a whole lot of beach goers that buy these bikes and the real nice ones are gone by summer. The cup holder and cell phone slot would have that bike sold out quickly near any beach.

I bought one of these back in 2017, it handles abuse pretty well, i took mine up to 37mph on a downhill, jumped it off curbs, and a bunch of other stuff. I think i put well over 500 miles on that bike from 2017-2018. It died on me in 2018 when one of the rear dropouts bent. Quite a good bike for the price, not to mention you get lots of compliments from people.

Alwyn Schoeman - I second that, I’m in my 40’s and never wore a helmet while riding a bike. Growing up in the 80’s, it was just something we didn’t do. Hell, I used to cruise on my Yamaha 250cc dirty bike at speeds about 60 mph when I was 14 years old, and I never wore a helmet then either!! It turns out that most helmets don't really do that much. Some data actually seems to show that they encourage worse behavior on the part of cyclists wearing them, putting them into more danger. Most recent studies show that outside of a very specific type of accident where somebody hits something at low speed, helmets don't do anything, but don't necessarily encourage or discourage dangerous behavior. That said, real world data shows that helmets might very well cause more danger as helmeted cyclists in the real world receive injuries at the same rate as unhelmeted ones, but receive many more injuries to all other body parts. This includes US data, Dutch data, Danish data, Australian data, Canadian data, and I'm sure that similar data could be found from all around the world. Don't necessarily stop wearing one, but consider carefully before wearing or not wearing a helmet. Each person is different.
@eileensweeney2500
@eileensweeney2500 5 жыл бұрын
I forgot to mention that the Netherlands, the country where cyclists have the lowest rate of cyclist injury per distance and per capita in the world, is also the nation with the lowest rate of helmet usage in the world. It all seems to suggest the helmets really are not the defining factor in cyclists' safety.

After crashing my new 10-Speed in 1972 the front rim looked like a roller coaster. But a trip to Western Auto yielded a bike wrench and 30 minutes of work completely straightened it. I’m sure the bike shop loved working on a bike you bought at WalMart.

I bought this same bike a few years ago & its my baby. I have a mountain bike as well, but I love the old coaster brakes. I'm old school, so sue me. lol But its a smooth ride as long as you don't go uphill because that's when you'll wish you were on a mountain bike. But other than that, I have no problems with it & like I said, for a smooth ride you can't ask for more. By the way, when going for a ride, always map out which way (roads) you'll be on, so it makes for a more enjoyable ride. Bike safe, ride safe & keep it between the ditches!!!

I own this bike, not meant for speed, but for the price, it is definitely worth it. It is heavy, which can be a pro or a con, because due to it's heaviness this thing is solid like a tank. Not much can go wrong with it because it's super simple. I live in a large city and use this is the bike for grocery shopping because who wants to get their 1,000$ bike stolen? Not afraid to bang it up, use a cheap lock on it and call it a day. Not ideal for commuting, but if your car is at the shop, you will definitely be happy you have this to get to work with.

I've got the updated version of this same bike, it's all cosmetic changes only. I would rate it 8/10, after 4 weekends of use. If you are over 5'10, as I am, I would advise against getting this particular frame because it feels squinchy around town, that is until you get used it, as I did. I'm deducting a couple points not because of the size, but because the right peddle bearing started going out this past weekend and I'm already having to invest money at a bike shop to fix it. At the end of the day, you get what you pay for. You aren't magically going to turn this $125 bike into a $500 cruiser. Since I own both, I can tell you they are similar in appearance only, the ride quality is miles apart, it's not even close. But for what it's worth, you get a decent bike that might need a little extra tlc compared to it's more expensive relatives.

I know the new lusso is a worthy travel bike. All I had to do though was change out the wheels with some older 90s huffy wheels an a crank as well down in Florida from an 80s huffy. Aside from those two things I never had any issue with anything else on the bike. An if I could afford it I would definitely buy another an do it agin.

After contacting Huffy by e-mail from their website I received a prompt response with directions to call a 1-800# and spoke with a service Rep. at their California service center, after taking my information and defective parts list the service Rep. told me my parts were being shipped FedEx. at "NO CHARGE" , I was pleasantly surprised to say the least, it's good to see a company who still has a Customer first mentality that stands behind their product, now if we could just get them to make their bikes in the USA I'd be willing to pay a little extra knowing I was supporting a fellow American and at the same time getting a higher quality product.

I just built a motorized bike with a Huffy Cranbrook, EXACTLY the color here. The crank assembly was NOT correct (the right side's bearing set was BENT, and there were two BBs rolling around; I just took the BBs out, thought "5 outta 7 BBs aint bad for now", took needle nose pliers and bent the bearing casing back to a true circle and put it back together; the peddles, before this, had a lot of side-to-side play). The coaster brake wasn't correct somehow, either. (And that night, for a few miserable and frustrating yet ultimately productive hours, I learned how to reassemble a coaster brake assembly from an array of "in the right order" pieces before me on a towel.) BUT.......these solid steel Cranbrooks are SOLID!!! And I say that as someone who has spent much time taking apart, reassembling, and modifying one. I had my doubts about a "modern Huffy bike from Walmart", but those doubts were removed in taking the thing apart and adding a bicycle engine kit to it! I'll say it again, the Cranbrook is just plain solid. However, the quality of its ASSEMBLY depends on whoever put it together. So, a quality bike with quality parts (mostly) may not necessarily be put together with utmost quality and care.

Now we are heading to winter and as my single speed has slicks and it's brakes aint the best, I am going to be using my Scott Sporster 30, 27 gear hydraulic brakes, decent grippy tires etc but.... give me my single speed to ride any day over it, less to fail, no getting the right gear, just get on, ride and smile! and now I know why they are so well liked, I may even get another single speed next year winter it up and replace the Scott with it.

The bike has no proper tolerances. coming from China you can expect a lot of bent products because shipping or manufacturing may not be the best of quality. this thing is just a fight. When you buy a bike from a bike shop you can ride out the door and not look back. When you buy a Walmart bike you chase everything from the crank to the bent Wheels to incorrect mount bearings and the list goes on. It's the reason why bike shops don't carry walmart quality bikes, they're not willing to put a customer on something they're not willing to sell! When it comes down to it, its your life. Rember you're on a bicycle if a hundred nineteen dollars is worth you losing your life then buy a Walmart bike. But if your life's worth more than that to you. Then spend the money to make sure that you continue living it.

It's actually fairly easy to straighten warped wheels. Usually they are only warped because of the spokes. If you adjust the spokes you can get a straight wheel in 15 min or less. How do I know? I had a huffy bmx with a coaster brake. I slammed the coaster brake to not get hit by a stupid driver and the wheel actually warped because I stopped so quickly. I still love coaster brakes though. They're just awesome when you have that on demand stopping power. And I've never slammed one hard enough to actually break it... just warp the rim.

$228 now. Cranbrook is $168 both have the angled seat tube Perfect Fit Frame which is wonderful. I recently got the Cranbrook it's great, except possibly the 44 sprocket front, 19 rear would be better with a 40 on the front. And nice BMX bars make it a cheap Klunker.

I have been working on a Huffy Cranbrook That was left outside for at least one Midwest winter. When I first took apart the greased parts (BB, hubs) I was shocked at how little grease was installed at the factory. Trying to get info, via e-mail a factory rep was quick to reply but could (or would) not tell me who made the Coaster brake hub. Turns out it was a Shimano Type E. IMHO, Huffy is total scrap metal with a fresh paint job. Just my opinion.

Noiice buy for a cruiser . For some adjustment fitting go with a layback seat post for more of a smoother and comfortable ride .. you could even add a higher ratio rear cox for more power . Or down the road convert it to a 7 speed . For more carrying space add a rear bag for groceries etc .. Enjoy

What a brilliant price for a well-engineered bicycle. In the UK bicycle are over-priced in comparison to what you'd pay in the states. For 119 usd (96 gbp) you'd be extremely lucky to be able to purchase a name brand mens bike here (of a similar size to your Huffy).

Also Nel Lusso means Nelson Skylar Lusso. He is the one who designed the bike. An yes even the slow coaster brake is also correct an designed by Nelson. Even though I have to agree in a way. I don't like the slow coaster set up in the back wheels. I like the pin rod locking coaster brakes. The more common classic cruiser braking set up.

In a “cruiser “ the seat down post comes in behind the center of the crank. It’s a subtle but important thing for the look of the bike. ✌🏻🇺🇸

Re: Bikes I had a regular test trip of 35 miles round trip. Each bike I had, had to make the trip. I picked up a Schwinn Phantom 1952 by the serial number. Took it completely apart.greased it, installed new brakes as the originals were shot. Yes, it made the 35 miles. Yes, you have to be nuts to ride a single speed cruiser. I sold mike as an antique. Bikes have come a long way from the new antique you bought. As to skidding. Just like your car, when you brake the weight shifts forward un loading the weight on the rear wheel so it skids. A proper brake system would have a front brake as well as a rear brake..

I went to Walmart yesterday to look at bikes. I had the employee pull down three bikes from that overhead rack. A Cranbrook, a Nel Luso, and an Oakbrook I think it was. That last is a 7 speed with hand brakes. The Cranbrook had fairly round wheels, and the coaster brake seemed to work well. They are marked at $91.97. I checked the bottom of the seat post for bad welds (as mentioned in another of your videos), and it looked okay. The Oakbrook seemed pretty sold for $136. Then I had him pull down a Nel Lusso. I love that it had a solid welded on rack, and a compact front basket, and fenders. Very nice looking bike. They had the handle bars way off for me, but that's easily adjustable. I would prefer a 7 speed with hand brakes, but still, I like that Nel Lusso very much. Last, I took a look at a Mongoose Hotshot. No fenders, racks, or drink holders. What I liked about the Hotshot was, it has no suspension fork, and it is a 7 speed with just a front derailer. The budget bikes with suspension forks usually have horrible forks anyway. Here in Hawaii rust and corrosion are a constant threat, and one derailer/control/ and cable keep things simpler. Also, the Hotshot felt pretty comfortable too Price is $113. The Hotshot doesn't pretend to be a mountain bike at all.Even the smaller sized seat seems decent. I'm probably going to buy one of these three for my birthday present (today, Wednesday, is my birthday. You on the mainland can maybe get free shipping on bikes you order on line, but here, they tack on an extra $65 for shipping. Then you have to worry about shipping damage. For me, buying an assembled bike from Walmart saves that $65. I just turned 64 and have a gimpy right side knee, and am in a fight with prostate cancer. I am working out with weights, I swim about 3 days a week, and believe I am ready to get back on a bike after the leg injury 14 months ago. But, I didn't want to spend much, as my heath issues are up in the air. Thanks for your videos.

+Jon Neet Thanks for commenting. Happy Birthday! Sorry to hear you’re in a fight with cancer, but from the sound of your comment I think you’ll be kicking it’s butt soon. I agree that it’s certainly not worth the $65 risk for shipping a bike. They can get pretty beat up along the way. One note on the nel lusso ans Cranbrook....if you have any knee issues they likely aren’t the best bike if you have any hills whatsoever. Personally I would also consider something with v-brakes over the coaster brakes if I had knee issues. That said, if you ride on completely flat ground that warning may not apply. Our local Walmart has two 7-speeds with hand brakes. A Kent and a Schwinn. I believe the Schwinn is the only one of the lot that has 29” wheels and may have a forward pedal setup. I plan on looking at it in the future, but you may want to give it a look if you local store stocks it. That Mongoose hotshot looks comfortable with a hybrid profile. It appears to have twist shifters, which I am not a fan of, so take note that if your hands get sweaty shifting can become problematic. Good luck, and please let me know what you end up with and how it works out!
@jonneet2126

I hear you on the twist shifters. Had a Next mountain bike that came with the house we bought here near Hilo Hawaii. Twist shifters. Didn't take long to get my hands sweaty, then it became hard to shift. I was surprised how comfortable that Hotshot felt, though I just sat on it in the store for a bit. That small seat must be well designed, as it felt decent.

Hey, this is my car. Literally. 3000 miles on it. I put a 85cc engine on it and it goes above 40 mph. It's my motorcycle, it's a poor man's Harley. Here are some things I noticed after over a year... The coaster break is a nasty little buggar, and the spokes in those nice looking rims are tougher than most, but still not great. I have modified it to have disc brakes, and I swapped to mag wheels with thinner tires for insane speeds. Steering column can be a disaster to stay on top of, but it's not too bad. Just don't camber too hard and fast. Those 30 lb of luggage can hold more than 30 lb of luggage, my lord is it useful but be careful it can take a beating. My basket has slammed into the speeding ground a number of times, and I had to reform it and it's barely holding on. Crazy thing is, 30 mph ground stood no chance, basket is still okay! Drink holders useless, vibrations of the motor made it fall off so many times that one time I just looked behind me as it scuttled across the road and I just sighed and left it, replacing the cup holder about a year later. All in all, if you see this bike and you want a beach cruiser, get it. It's heavy, it's hard to pedal, but it looks beautiful. Also, if you want to turn it into a motorcycle and go over 3,000 mi on it, it will do that too with some modification. Unfortunately, you can't keep the fenders when motorizing. They will try to kill you because the wind coming off of the tire will suck it into the wheel, if the chain doesn't wobble a little bit and grab it first.

@@KevCentral I picked up this bike btw. It's a very different bike than the one it replaces. A ironhorse yakuza 5.1 29er from walmart. The freewheel all of a sudden let loose and the bike can no longer be pedaled. I took the freewheel off and there was aluminum dust all over so its shot. I tried using jb weld and it worked for a week. I'd probably need a new hub and freewheel?

Handsome looking bike. I would debadge the cheap stickers with a heat gun and GooOff and keep the emblems. There's one on Craigslist for $400 but it's outfitted with a 48w 100v front e-hub drive. I think the seller buys these brand new and outfits em with a hub motor. I'm concerned about parking this downtown with the additional expensive parts.
