@rasaecnai
@rasaecnai 3 жыл бұрын
Buddenholzer's fault! KD played every minute of the game. Nash understood that it was a do or die situation and let his superstar lay it out on the floor. Why is Giannis not allowed to do everything he can to stop KD on the defensive side of the floor is beyond me. When KD got going and the lead vanished, why was there no adjustment to put Giannis on him for a duel? Giannis guarded him for a total of TWO possessions, WTF man. Im sure Giannis would have loved that assignment. PJ Tucker can whacked KD on the head all he wants, that is not stopping KD from shooting over him.

@oo70mar I’ve seen people argue against this by saying that KD would cook Giannis on the perimeter because Giannis doesn’t have the lateral quickness to keep up with him, but I haven’t seen him guard him so I’m not quite sure
@mstump7219
@mstump7219 3 жыл бұрын
@oo70mar Wasn’t even trying to argue but yes. Not that he has absolutely no speed laterally on defense, but not enough to keep up with KD. Plus having a running start driving on offense or using spin moves, euro steps, etc. is different than trying to stick with someone on defense moving backwards or laterally. I agree though, I’d rather see him trying to guard KD than Khris, PJ, or Pat Connaughton, he can’t do worse than them either way. At the same time it should be considered that he’d likely be getting some fouls called against him that are otherwise avoidable.
@mstump7219
@mstump7219 3 жыл бұрын
@oo70mar My point was that moving forwards is always faster than moving to the side or backwards. Even euros, you have speed built up moving forward to step to the side like that. I get where you’re coming from though. And yeah, you expect more from a former DPOY. Just like you expect more from Rudy Gobert, who has been getting exploited in the series against the Clippers. As well, I couldn’t give you hand timed stats but it really wouldn’t surprise me if PJ Tucker could move laterally faster than Giannis since he is 6’5 rather than 6’11. Even if PJ is faster, I agree, I think Giannis could do a better job of containing KD due to his wingspan, size, and strength and I think he should take the challenge. I guess we’ll see tonight how they decide to play it. I hope they put him on KD.

Going back at this performance and the 2 playoffs since that one, I've only seen one playoff performance as good as this one the last 3 seasons and that was the 55 piece by Dame that same season. I know that people will mention Jokic's 53, Giannis' 50 in game 6 of the Finals, the game 6 Tatum had against the Bucks or the game 4 Steph had in the Finals. None of those were on the level of this one. The difficulty of shots made, the opponent faced, the responsibility on offense and what you had to carry through out the game, I really don't think we've seen anything like this the last 3 postseasons apart from that monster game by Lillard against Denver in game 5.

@oo70mar it's not that he doesn't want to guard him, he himself said that he wanted to guard him and was up for the task. It's just that Bud didn't let him mainly for(imo) two reasons. 1. Giannis is best utilized as a help defender. Sure, he is a good perimeter defender and can keep up with guards, but that's not his defensive game. 2. Bud didn't want Giannis running into foul trouble. Having Giannis guarding KD all game would have him in foul trouble by the end of the 3rd quarter.

I wish people would stop saying Giannis should guard KD. Giannis is primarily a help defender that could offer switchability 1-5 but his man defense is not his greatest strength. He gets by on having a massive size/length advantage but he’s not sound enough 1 on 1 to guard elite offensive players much less KD. Let’s stop trying to make Giannis what he is not and that is a good on ball defender.

As an always defensive minded player and coach, it pains me to see how poorly the Bucks defended KD, how slow their rotations were and how little they adjusted. I've been saying this about other teams as well: When several players have bad defensive habbits and mentality, turning it on and doing things right in high pressure situations becomes damn near impossible, doesn't get any easier when the opponent have arguably the best scorer in the game..who get's red hot.

I'm not even a bucks fan but either Giannis or Bud has to go. Giannis isn't gonna recruit a superstar to join him and Bud just doesn't have what it takes to outcoach good teams.

As a fellow non Bucks fan, saying Giannis needs to go is dumb. He is literally there offense. The only reason they’re in their position atm is because of him.

one thing that confuses me is, yes KD is superhuman. but you have two all nba defenders, one being a two time DPOY. how do you not put some resistance on KD. Havent been much attention to the bucks this season but im surprised how giannis was even in the conversation for all nba defense.

he wasn't the same player back then. i don't think people notice it to much but even his form got more refined from being in golden state along with everything else so i don't think he has this performance without going there 1st. i bet you draymond was cursing him out on the phone after they lost game 4. people forget he put that warriors team on his back on a bigger stage than this against lebron at his best but hey
