They call him "Ace" because he carries the Ace of Spades. He carries the Ace of Spades so everybody will call him "Ace". Makes sense to me.

You're lucky to be part of that era in film. What else did you do? when did you give it up if ever ?

Very sorry for the delay in replying to your question. Playing Ace in the Beachcombers was my very first acting job and I feel very privileged to have been part of it. It was suppose to be only 1 episode. Then the wrote me another and another and another. By then I was living in Toronto doing bits and bobs of TV and commercials. Occasional big part. Mostly small. Then I got cast in the Broadway production of The Buddy Holly Story. This took me to New York City and when the show closed, I stayed in New York for 20 years doing regional theatre all around the country. I now live back in Toronto and am mostly working as a real estate agent but still act some. I recently had a big part on a Murdoch Mysteries episode. Season 15 Episode 17. I was the inspector trying to solve the crime. And I play bass and stand up bass in 2 bands. Always keeping busy. Here's a short sample of an older Ace. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXi8nJ-kqrili8U

Wow. I'm about to start using my KZbin channel and just now found a pile of questions I never answered. This is Ace, from The Beachcombers. You asked what season and episode was this scene from. I honestly don't know. We shot it in July of 1979 which means probably season 7? Maybe? They then brought my character back several more times over the next 3 seasons or so. Big 50th anniversary celebration going on in Gibson's Landing where it was made this September.
