For real dude. From a sheer numbers standpoint he went from like 24-26 a game to like 17-19 and did so enthusiastically without ever even thinking of complaining. He had already had his individual success, dude was just hungry, nah, starving for wins and it showed. Even as a Boston fan I really don't think you can replace KG with ANYONE in the league on that same squad and get a ring no disrespect to Allen or Pierce....and I've thought about this alot. Numbers wise on defense maybe Timmy D but even then, not the right the fit for the type of leadership and energy we needed or what KG brought us. No disrespect to him either, obviously a legendary leader in his own different way. But yeah, Great take. I'm glad we got him a championship and a shot at another or it would've been for almost nothing.
@wesleyprince3465
@wesleyprince3465 2 жыл бұрын
@@remingtonporter1734 I mean true but you could make a strong case for any of the big three to get that finals mvp tbh. Allen either tied or broke a then finals record of 3s made in a series himself if I'm not mistaken, and Pierce obviously did his Pierce thing. Just goes to show how unselfish and just dedicated to the championship that squad was. Really could've been any of the three of them. Might as well have had them play rock paper scissors over who got to take it home🤣

It’s kinda sad how KG got his jersey retired in Boston before Minny. I know KG’s loyalty to Flip Saunders and Glenn Taylor being a snake ruined KG’s relationship with the Wolves. Shout out to the Celtics for honouring this legend and what a beautiful sight to see the Big 3 put their beef aside.

Being a early eighties baby. I witnessed KGs greatness as a high school Phenom coming from South Carolina to Chicago's Farragut Academy. Him and Ronnie Fields were a unstoppable duo. I watched him dominating in the McDonald's All American game. Skipping college when it was not the popular thing to do. KG was drafted as a 19 year old to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He became a superstar in Minnesota and had all the statistical numbers headed for the Hall of Fame. But he couldn't get that Championship that he wanted so be. So when he finally got traded to the Boston Celtics with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. I knew that he was going get that Chip. So happy for Kevin Garnett because he is one of the greatest competitors that I have ever watched on a basketball court. Kobe is my favorite player of all time because of he's competitiveness. KG was cut from that same cloth. There will never be another Big Ticket.

He a lifelong celtic. He just got lost in Minnesota for a few years, bless his heart. In all seriousness....third favorite player of all time (behind only Bird and Pierce....yes I'm a massive celtic fan). I've heard some people outside of Boston fans say its a lil weird to retire a number for 6 seasons but dude they'll never understand. We deadass went from laughing stock to elite in the snap of a finger when we got him. The immediate impact was fucking palpable and tangible almost literally and his relationship with Boston fans was on another level since day 1. It absolutely should be retired. Number 5 would never look right in a green jersey again for someone else, never. Not only did he deserved to get it retired, it belongs on the upper tier of Boston retired numbers. With Bill, Larry, and Pierce, who many consider the best 3. Dont @ me. Mad love for KG.

KG is originally from Maudlin, S.C. (small city outside of Greenville, S.C…. same city my wife grew up in) Thanks for representing us well Kevin. I’ll never forget you making it to the NBA and came back to Greenville that summer and partying with us at this club called “Characters” He had the new Lexus parked outside the club. I was so happy for you my brother! “Anything Is Possible” ✌🏾

The recognition of ray proves the heart KG has. It proves how real and loyal he is. It proves how passionate he truly is. The intensity in his face, seriousness and don't give a f attitude respectfully. The best ceremony thus far...love KG and everything that he represents and stands for.

I lived in Boston from 1993 to 1997 as a Korean exchange student. I loved sports and I specially loved Boston Celtics. I started watching with Dee Brown, Dana Barros, Dino Radja and then Rick Fox, Keny Anderson, Antoine Walker.. But the team was never been a winning team. I got used to watch loosing games and team almost never made playoffs. After Paul Pierce came to Boston in 1997, I was happy to have allstar player in my team. But just playoff team. Not a contender.. Then after 10 years,, Finally DREAM COME TRUE!! Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett arrived in Boston. I couldn't believe my team had 3 allsters!! And became a NBA Champion for the first time I watched Celtics Bastekball for 15 years. You were the key for our dream. Thank you Kevin!!

Theres this sentiment around the league that the Celtics parade this ring around more than they should. A sentiment that this Big 3 should have won more and they act like they did more than what they actually did. This was the first championship since Larry Bird. This was our first proper winning, contending season in a huge portion of our fanbases entire lives. This championship propelled the franchise back into relevence, back into a contender, back into the spotlight and reignited the legitimacy of the organization as a keystone in this league. But it also sparked the next 14 years since then. KG, Pierce and Allen are the reason we have Tatum, Brown and Smart. This also sparked a run of 13 playoff appearances in the last 14 years. That wouldnt be possible without these three legends. This Championship means A LOT to this organization.
@jrsmith1998
@jrsmith1998 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think them parading it around is what the issue is. The issue is they think they are better than what they actually were. And the big 3 in fact did underachieve.
@Amm17ar
@Amm17ar 2 жыл бұрын
@@jrsmith1998 Meh. Thats your opinion. They won a ring, went to another finals and pushed the best teams to 6/7 games consistently. They were all past their primes when they joined up too. Theres always what ifs but if KG didnt get hurt their second year, that was another finals trip, and then they pushed Miami to 7 games the year they broke up. Should they have won more, maybe? Given the circumstances of reality where they got hurt, older, and better teams like Miami formed....Nah I dont think they underachieved.
@jrsmith1998
@jrsmith1998 2 жыл бұрын
@@Amm17ar They were not oast past their primes in 2008. Pierce 30 Garnett 32 You are making excuses for their lack if success. Only 2 finals trips. 1 win. But to be fair, after that first year, KG and Allen’s best years were done. And ir was back to being Paul Pierce carrying the load Allen 33.
@Amm17ar
@Amm17ar 2 жыл бұрын
@@jrsmith1998 Age doesnt have everything to do with being past your prime. Obviously all their stats took a hit when they joined up. So excluding the first year, its pretty damn obvious all three were slowing up. Compared to a Miami Big 3, Golden State, Cleveland, and more recently Brooklyn, they joined up late in their careers. I wasnt intending my comment to be an excuse, but rather stating that there are realities that are disregarded. The fact that the year after KG got hurt they made it straight back to the Finals is enough for me to think that there would have been a pretty good chance they would have made it past Orlando and Cleveland in 09 and had a chance. Regardless, 5 years together. Joined up all in their 30s and 2 Finals runs, 3 Conf. Finals in that span and being a top 4 team throughout those years is impressive enough. Im biased. Obviously, but they had a damn good run objectively too. No it didnt result in Championships. But it changed a franchise. Thats the impact I was intending to address in my original comment. Nothing more.
