The same happened to me when I got out of the military and realized I had married a fucked up woman. Everything was gravy when my life was busy dealing with military stuff to include deployments, and my mindset was mostly "if it broke, don't fix it". But once I got out and was able to spend more "free minded" time around my wife, I began to see just how fucked up, evil, and selfish she was. Child support comes without filing for it. The court does that. And no pre-nup can block that. But right, that's why she wants full custody. But if Kevin can prove that he put her through school or that he gave up something to be married to her (more seasons in the NBA) he won't have to pay that. And get joint custody. The only thing he is doing now is is his show and podcast. He can prove that he will be there and can support the child. When you know your state laws, you don't need a pre-nup. I made sure my ex wife was in school when she wasn't working. She got two degrees and the judge turned down her request for spousal support. And by then, I had been on the job for years and was the boss and writing my own schedule. Joint custody!

And on top of that, because of this fact. BY LAW, the state applies a mandatory processing fee on every payment for doing something that's automated. I've been through it with 2 wives and a fiancee. 25 years running.

Get a pre-nup, but if you live in a state like California or Washington, it's already a 'Community Property' state, which means you split half of what you make with your spouse WHILE MARRIED. So if you earned/banked $100 million during your playing days (and don't marry until the next tax year just to be sure), and you earn $1 million a year in some analyst job, she can only get half of that and the primary home you and she live in (so make sure you have other real estate bought and paid for, and have them in a trust). In fact, have ALL your property, cars, jewelry, and money in various trusts. That limits your exposure to simply the money you earned while married to her. Hell, I'd even have the trust collect my earnings while married to her, and if I make $1 million a year on my analyst job, there's a good chance she may get less than 1/2 that money, since I'd have the trust 'pay' me just enough for expenses (running the house, which is owned by the trust, food, gas, kids school, a few nice things). LOL. She'd get less than half of what you earned, plus child support (which, again, would be based upon, in large part, what your trust pays you). Yes, it should be a class for not only all rookies, but for all college prospects BEFORE they screw up and knock some chick up.You don't want those who'd go to the pros screwing up before their fist pay check.

It may be hard to put real estate in this if your property isn't in one of the 15 states who have this, but: 1) You can put stocks, bonds, money, and other non-real assets in this no matter what state you live in, and; 2) You can put your real estate in non DAPT states in other kinds of trusts where you have control, but via other people (say, trusted family member like your mom, etc.) Bottom line, with the DAPT, creditors and divorcing spouses don't have access to YOUR assets, thus a large percentage of your assets should be shifted over to one BEFORE you get married (and ideally in the tax year BEFORE you get married so she can't say 'Well, his contract ended when he retired in 2018, so I should get half of what the contract called for.' Marry her in the 2019 Tax year).
