www.vladtv.com - Louisiana native Kevin Gates recently sat down with VladTV to discuss his upbringing in Baton Rouge, LA., catching his first charges as a teen and why imprisonment can do more harm than good.
Gates reveals that while he is from New Orleans, he was raised in Baton Rouge, LA., making it clear that while New Orleans is perhaps the most popular city in the state, there are so many other parts that don't receive recognition.
He also reveals that he was influenced by people who were doing the wrong things and ended up getting arrested for the first time at the age of 13 for stealing, and that he received his first juvenile charge at 15 for aggravated assault and wasn't released until two years later.
Gates says that spending those two years in juvie took his fear of imprisonment away, and that many kids in the state of Louisiana have no outlet except the streets.
Check out Kevin break it all down above.

Its an honest pleasure to just listen to Kevin Gates talk... If we all could speak a little more like that and think before we speak the world would be a better place. with that, I have done the same with my Son. I never speak to him like a baby. Now at 6 years old, he can hold a better conversation than most adults I hear. I tell him, if you do good you get good, if you do bad you get bad. Its up to you what you get, but I believe in you to do the right thing, and those times you choose wrong like we all do at times. I believe you will learn from it. That turns a mistake into a lesson. Mistakes that are turned into lessons, are lessons that are never made again.

There's no infrastructure there to sustain any improvement The penal system is designed to lock up children who need direction and guidance but because it doesn't exist they become career criminals Due to the fact that the state lacks money and/or resources or it isn't being allocated correctly, the schools can provide limited assistance. Where are the community resources?

***** Number one,i'm Dutch. Number too. Black folks stay losing because people like you keep trying to force your excpectations onto somebody else simply because they're black. Black people are not monolithic. Trying to be a monolithic people has destroyed the blacks in America. Let people be people. White people don't group up and go ater each other. You didn't hear white people calling any white person who voted for Obama a race traitor or white version of Uncle Tom. Your archaic views on race are what's wrong with the WORLD!!!

Damn I am suprised he knows where Denham Springs is lol Me and my sister got into trouble as teenagers and had to do drug court and probation and the po offered us to go to Louisiana National Guard Youth challenge Program (YCP) for 6 months. It works for some. Louisiana Judicial system really needs some kind of program for addicts. All Louisiana does is throw them in jail without getting them the proper care they need.

He said the state of Louisiana has more people in prison than any country in the world. But its not really more people, its a higher percentage of people. Something like 1 in 86 adults are in prison, and in New Orleans 1 in 14 black men are in prison, and one in 7 are in prison, on parole, or on probation.
