@peterp21534 жыл бұрын
By the time of your examples of Bischoff and Afquette, Hall was already a mess to the point you could see it physically with him. If you’re thinking about earlier, When he was Razor Ramon he was basically the stalwart of the IC Title division, which is pretty important in its own right. But clearly McMahon was looking for a new Hogan and for whatever reason he went with Diesel. Maybe it was thinking the Cuban gimmick wasn’t universal enough. I think it was a matter of timing earlier in his career. Only one guy can be THE GUY at a time where being the world champ mattered to that degree, and he just didn’t fit that in managements opinion. But if he was still healthy and lucid, in the days when the belt was being traded monthly or even weekly, yeah he would’ve probably gotten a run. But then his reign would’ve sucked anyway, since he’d probably lose it on a Nitro after 7 days in a dildo on a pole 40 man gauntlet match or something.
@Provos77774 жыл бұрын
@@peterp2153 You’re absolutely right Pete. Scott was the IC champ when the belt and division were still very prestigious, the IC titleholder was the # 2 or # 3 guy in the company. He was a wreck mentally. Although so was Shawn Michaels with his addictions. I do remember Hall criticizing Bruno while watching a Bruno interview as Bruno being a mark for himself. But while Bruno bought into his gimmick, he also sold out just about everywhere and sold out MSG every month for 12 straight years. It's not always bad to buy into the gimmick and it's not always good to willingly job for anybody. You have to protect your gimmick and yourself from a booking perspective because it's what makes you money. The rub is being able to protect your gimmick and do what is best for business as a whole because nobody can draw for a promotion by themselves.

Scott Hall was the real total package. He had size, physique, good in the ring, great on the mic, loaded with charisma, etc.. When you compare him in his prime with all of today's pro wrestler's it seems unbelievable that he wasn't a multi-time world champ. But his era had a loaded talent pool and the world title didn't change hands very often. Plus we all know he had personal issues at times. He was definitely good enough to be a world champ in any era but it's also somewhat understandable why he wasn't. If he was in his prime in the current era he would be a megastar. The answer to this question is very simple. It was very “crowded at the top” in both WWE and WCW in 1996. Back then, the WWE had the mainstay World champions of Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, and the Undertaker - while Vince McMahon was considering Stone Cold as for a World Title run. This means that at most, Scott Hall may have been “4th in line”, even though he’d been with the WWE longer than Stone Cold had. Even being a member of The Clique and the NWO didn’t give Scott Hall the clout he needed to get a World Title push in either promotion from 1996 onward. Then Hall & Nash arrived as a “tag team” in the WCW, which might have put Hall “10th in line” for the WCW World strap. From 1996 onward, Eric Bischoff just didn’t see Scott Hall as being the suitable to carry the WCW World Title.
@respectedlocalgentleman71082 жыл бұрын
Sadly, it was the gimmick. Razor Ramon was straight out of 1982. The problem is that he came around in 1992. McMahon was under scrutiny over the 'roids and the political correctness that has crippled our nation since, was in its infancy. "Ramon" could offend people by PC logic, irrational as it is. HBK was for the girls, BHH was for the old school technicians, UT was the modern anti-hero archetype, when Nash came out as Diesel he was immediately given McMahon's stereotypical BIG GUY role and that was that. We, the fans, adored Razor, but McMahon never liked the gimmick. In fact, he didn't even get it. There are interviews around on YT that you can find on the subject.

Scott Hall was one of the most generous guys in the business. And the smartest. He was 100% right about Jericho. Jericho manufactured himself getting so far over in WCW entirely on his own. I love that Kevin Nash also talks about that too. Scott Hall knew the money was there with Jericho. So he did the right business. It's not the only time in WCW from what I've read, that Scott was asked to go out and squash someone. BUT even if he had to go over, he would refuse to squash a good performer, and instead engineer a good match to make them look strong instead so they could not look weak going forward.

That was a nice response from Nash to say "Don't you think i've had mine?". Both Nash and Hall were way over in the '90s and early '00s and made lots of money at that as generous and understanding about their business why not push or put someone over for the other wrestlers to get an opportunity as these wrestlers like Hall and Nash whose had it all in their glory days to pass the mantle or torch to the next upcoming talent? Just makes sense. That's cool. Legends.

I saw Kevin Nash at Big Apple Con, just walking around and Nash was so tall. I'm 5'11, and when I saw how tall he was compared to me, I was astonished. I didn't even say a word, because I was so surprised to just see him right then and there.

@@craigjohnson2721 Shawn was a special case in that Vince McMahon protected him and would let him get away with anything. They had a kind of weird relationship that nobody can really explain where Vince McMaho would never do anything to him no matter how bad he messed up. It wasn't just drugs, it was (a) brawling in the locker room, (b) acting unprofessionally in PPV matches, (c) getting beaten up in public, (d) sabotaging maches and (e) threatening other guys in the locker room telling them he could tell Vince Mcmahon to fire them. No other guy has ever gotten away with that kind of stuff and nobody knows why Shawn was able to do it. Scott Hall's reputation was that that was good but a drunk. He was in the group as alot of other guys like Jake Roberts and Roddy Piper who were never going to rise above a certain point no matter how good they were.

Razor Ramon definitely deserves a world title run, more than once actually ! It's not like that he didn't want it or anything but i think the company didn't give him a run for world title for some reason :(

Having experienced it first hand, I think Kevin is definitely telling the truth here...but, everyone needs to understand that Hall (along with a few others) were getting paid -STUPID- money by WCW. A well fed dog isn't going to hunt. Now throw in the thrill of the drugs & the women at Hall's disposal...do you really think he cared all that much about getting a scripted win? What more could he want? He was still going to get paid, do drugs, and sleep with dozens of women on a weekly basis. This essentially led to WCW becoming stagnate for these same reasons. Not everyone partied like Hall, Nash, etc, but a lot of the top guys were paid perhaps too well for doing very little. The hungry guys like Jericho, Benoit, Guerrero, etc kept grinding & getting over...even if it meant leaving for a bigger reward.
