Keatings primary expertise is more economics, investment, foreign policy and Business & Industry of China. Keating's experience with the USA was only really from when he was PM really. If we could have both in these respective Ambassadorial roles; They could work towards a more peacful and diplomatic solution between these two Global Super powers. @@tzz89 Absolutely. Rudd is the best person for this job right now. Even as mildly dismissive of Keating's remarks Rudd is, he still respects him and his opinion's to a degree. They don't need to see eye to eye on everything for them to respect one another. That aside; As disparaging as most media have been to Keating's remarks, Keating isn't completely wrong either. Keating is an absolute Legend in his own right as well. Given what both Rudd and himself have said about China's position & the undeniable escalation the US have been upto. Honestly we need to US to back off to defuse the situation. I'm not willing to concede to any of China's demand's but they won't listen to anyone with the massive build up of US forces in the region. At the end of the day, the US isn't going to be able to dissuade China by escalation of force. This is our region, not the US's. Japan, India, both Korea's, Other SE Asian nations, our pacific island nations, New Zealand and Australia need to all enter into diplomatic talks with China. Our entire region needs to come together to discuss and attempt to resolve the numerous issues surrounding & involving China. Because honestly, it's not hoing to end well to any one of us in our region if full blown War breaks out with Chima. We need to try to fix this before the CCP goes full Putin or they get fed up with the US poking & proding them, clearly attempting to provoke a War. A War we Australians would inevitably be dragged into by the US...

The host asks THE question... is Australia placing a target on its back by being the US lapdog and signing a raw deal for overpriced subs that will be there in....2040, and that entail the US getting perpetual docking rights. The answer pure and simple is: YES. Notice how Rudd deflects into the irrelevant with talk of nukes and WMDs, when conventional warfare, trade embargo and blockade are much more relevant forms of offense which Australia is not only risking but outright courting by joining up for this Aukus balderdash. The Aussies should chart a middle course. I thought the ABC interviewer was just spot on in this interview. The very argument that Rudd raises about China's navy being the largest is one of the first reasons why Australia should be charting a middle course!

The United States is the wealthiest country in the world and have the most powerful military for the last seventy-eight years. This led some Americans to believe that they are exceptional and that there are natural laws that ensure their position as the number one nation on earth forever. As such, the US feels justified to use all necessary means to maintain its dominance and will take any steps necessary to prevent any potential rivals from growing too strong. The CIA was involved in covert operations that resulted in mass killings of communists in over 22 countries. More than 500,000 innocent Indonesian civilians disappeared in 1965-1966. To make the world safe for democracy, the US has caused the deaths of tens of millions of people in its conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, Yugoslavia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, and Syria. China believes that a multipolar world is essential for global development, where every country has the opportunity to realize its full economic potential. This approach emphasizes cooperation between nations rather than competition, to achieve a shared vision of prosperity for all. While the US prioritizes its position as the sole superpower, China advocates for a more inclusive and cooperative approach that allows for the development of all nations. In the last forty-four years, the Chinese military has not used its weapons to kill a single person outside its territory. China will not be lured into war. The US has chronic domestic problems, including a national debt of over $31 trillion, economic inequality, inflation, healthcare, education, racial inequality, infrastructure, housing affordability, homelessness, the opioid epidemic, and gun violence. The country's political leaders are deeply divided and hostile to each other. Both parties have identified China as their "most consequential threat" and the source of their problems. Many believe that China must be weakened before it becomes any stronger. The US is using Taiwan to provoke China into a war and preparing to fight in that manner. The US population is whipped up to see Chinese threats everywhere. A weather balloon is seen as a threat, as is a port crane and even TikTok. Sanction chopsticks, noodles, and cloth sewing machines, they have dual uses. Chopsticks could poke someone's eyes and blind them, noodles could be fed to PLA soldiers, and sewing machines could be used to make military-grade uniforms. China is Australia's largest trading partner, outpacing the combined purchases of the next three. Our export to China stands at 10.4% of our GDP. Our military budget is less than 2% of our GDP. AUKUS is a tactical masterstroke, leveraging our robust trade surplus with China to acquire five ‘highest quality’ secondhand Virginia-class nuclear-powered cruise missile hunter-killer fast-attack submarines to attack our biggest trading partner. With the deployment of these submarines, we have the power to bring their entire global sea-borne trade to a standstill, at any moment of our choosing. If another country stations its military on your territory and you have no control over that military, then you are a client state of that country. This indicates that they do not trust you to remain loyal. You have surrendered your sovereignty to that country, especially if you don't station your military in that country. The US stations its military in all of its allies. Client states do as they are told by their patron.

The *only* reason why China might take military action against Taiwan is if USA succeeds in manipulating Taiwan into separating from the mainland. Will USA do that? Otherwise, we have nothing to fear from China's military expansion, which is China's sovereign obligation to defend itself against US attempts to provoke China into war.
