It’s crazy how Kevin essentially says he doesn’t care how bad it was, they shouldn’t have canceled the movie. For starters you’re not the one who saw what they saw to determine said cancellation. Secondly, you aren’t paying the bill to make this movie and or paying a movie ticket price that will return their investment ultimately. Lastly, it’s a BUSINESS and WB can’t continue down this path of making movies that diminish the DC brand anymore. Race has NOTHING to do with this move. Sure, but there’s no evidence that the movie was bad, test screenings reception were lukewarm on the movie. Not great, but not bad either. This movie being bad narrative is a pure invention on Discovery’s part to try and shift the blame and cover their ass. They’re in over their head already with debt up to their eyeballs. They desperately needed to make some tax write offs, so they cancelled some projects from being released. One movie isn’t going to further diminish the brand. That’s stupid talk.

Keep in mind that Zaslav played a big role in turning the Discovery Channel and TLC from educational channels into trashy networks that air mostly cheap exploitative reality shows, pseudoscience BS, and nutjobs peddling conspiracies about aliens and doomsday prophecies. And he's not just cutting HBO Max and DC stuff, he's also cutting WB animation. So if you're a fan of shows like Young Justice, Teen Titans, Batman: The Animated Series, any of the straight to DVD DC movies, we're probably not going to get many more of those in the foreseeable future. Funny how Zaslav is willing to make cuts every except for his own obscene compensation package. He's getting $246 million in stock options in just one year, which he can exercise if Discovery/WB's share price goes above a certain amount. That's more than twice what Tim Cook gets paid. And Zaslav is incentivized to make decisions for short term stock price gains so he can exercise those stock options.

They came in at JUST the right time, as covid was still running rampant with new variants, and people were getting desperate for new shows that weren't kiddy fare. I mean HOW many fucking times can you handle letting Encanto run during the day and not need some palate cleanser after 6pm? Right now HBOmax is the go to mature streaming service, but Amazon and Netflix are right on those heels, and if zas fucks this up, people are MORE then willing to go through the hassle of canceling, and picking up the other services full time. (Most people I know just buy netflix for a month, and then are done with it for several months after)

But, here’s an idea, I would rather see Hollywood give $100mil a year as a diversity fund and get to it. Make grants to underprivileged but TALENTED (key word) directors, producers and so on. Not just based on color or gender or sexuality, but based on access to the system. Make the small budget movies that matter. As a DC fan, I am excited. There is hope for Superman and company to comeback. I still and holding off to see a woven storytelling about the DC universe similar to Marvel. It doesn't need to be Zack's Universe. I just want to see these amazing characters to shine and not get backseat with there B to C list counterparts and only be used to sell there the B and C tiers. I want to see the proper Justice League to shine and than show me more of the characters after you establish the A tier characters. Clean slate or build upon Black Adam and Shazam. Than introduce Superman and company.

WB had that chance for so long, they even had Christopher McQuarrie interested along with Henry Cavill but WB failed to take the chance due to there pride with Henry Cavill beef. This new Discovery merger wants Henry Back from what I had been hearing. Supergirl movie. Who wanted that before Man of Steel? WB got ot right making Wonder Woman, Aquaman and Flash. We need the rest of JLA to have solos so we can get a continued story that we had been asking for. HBO Max and Peacemaker aren't going anywhere, they cancelled shows and movies that are trash its that simple and I dont blame them because they get laughed out of the room anytime someone compares them to marvel, Dc has the better heroes/characters imo so they really should be on top.

The biggest issue to me is them removing a LOT of shows that were on HBO Max in order to not pay people contractual backend payments. They have removed a shit ton of HBO Max originals to save money. Meanwhile the CEO was literally the highest paid CEO last year bringing in $250 million. Gotta save money everywhere else in order for him to keep making his bag.

I agree with Kevin that Marvel is making tv shows at Disney.. but that was only after 3 phases of successful movies.. DC doesn’t have that, and they don’t have a cohesive universe. So I think that what they want to is good, instead just trying to pump out movies that are loosely conected

Though I don’t know what percentage of the Potter merch goes to WB vs JK Rowling.

Releasing a movie just because the lead is a Latina is just dumb. If it's horrendous.... and by all reports it was terrible. Then it's just going to set things back further. The Batwoman series tried the whole race swap thing and the series fucking tanked. And if they want to continue to go down the race swap or in other movie cases, gender swap of major characters........ maybe, just maybe... they want to make sure the story and the visuals are actually good...... instead of just releasing it based on a persons gender or ethnicity. End of the day, the story and the visuals are whats key. If they invested the money and what they got wasn't good enough then of course they would be in their own rights to say they don't want it released.

So I have to say I disagree. They said that they decided not to release batgirl because it was so bad that it would hurt the brand and I found it refreshing. Hold a standard and treat these properties like they mean something. Also with HBO max layoffs the are consolidating the HBO, HBO Max and Discovery plus and are laying off positions that are repetitive. It sucks but that’s what happens in a company merger.

There's a rumor that the Batgirl movie was irredeemably bad and included death of Keaton's Batman. Perhaps it is for the best to just write this one off for tax purposes. I do not agree with axing all original DC streaming content and killing the brand of HBO Max. I can't wrap my head around that one.

Warner Brothers should do a "The Brave and The Bold" movie series where they pair up 2 different DC characters/properties for each one, like the comic book series. They could release one every 3 years, with a one shot story. I would start with the Batman/Wonder Woman "Hiketeia" story, but anything would work. The next one would feature 2 different characters, and so on. They could use it to introduce characters, and gauge the response to see if they should give that character their own movie. The other thing Warner Brothers should do is look into turning the "House of Mystery" into a TV series like "Creepshow" or "Tales From the Crypt." They already have enough stories to do a 10 year run, they just need to adapt them to TV. They have Cain and Abel as the hosts.
