The most classic image of the Black Panther for me is that old comic where he wrestles a rhino to the ground. When they did that in the movie I was like, “Yes! This is what I want for my comic book movies.” Give me those classic scenes.

The most powerful part of the film to me was when he went back to the ancestral plane the 2nd time. T'challa Confronted his father and his ancestors and told them they we're wrong. He stood up to them and let them know that what they did by "preserving" Wakanda also led to the suffering of people around the world who looked just like them. How as Kevin brought out , If they hadnt done so Killmonger who had every right to be brought home wouldnt even exist the way he does. Its a lesson that while our ancestors deserve to be honored for all the sacrifices and the work they've done ... They were not perfect. And its up to us as their off spring to right their wrongs using the resources we have today. Change starts with us. We sculpt the future and move culture and the fate of our people forward NOW with bravery and leadership that benefits all people.

So basicslly you dont care about a fictional character or their history... unless the character has the same skin colour as u? But all other skin colours that do the same thing are racists... because all black people are the same, with the same history, and same culture... The most ridiculous part of this movie is how Wakanda is stil just a small nation sorrounded by other small nations which they would of been at war with for thousands of years before they advanced as a tribe into a nation....but they dont further explain it, just have a revenge plot over a white race thst in thie film, hasnt ensalved any of its people.... only others... a storyline of an african tribe advancing whilst at the same time every tribe in afirica was at war 1000 years ago, grows into a nation unhappy with the stste of the war , so they protect the innocent, cspture and reveal the wicked who have been manipulating its own people so that all the nations find peace and all live happiy back within there own natins... would of been so much more amazing then... i am black, you are white... i hate you cuz u white.. we must help anyone whos black. They must be all good...... the movie treats black culture like its not at all different with it own history and horrors

Kevin, If when u watch BP again , pay attention to the little jewels placed in the movie dealing with social times of the day. How the base for Wakanda in America is in Oakland. The birth place for the Black Panther movement in the 60's. How Killmonger also represents African Americans being abandoned by Africa (That is an issue that is talked about in certain circles) And how deep Killmongers last words are.

@reformedbear14796 жыл бұрын
Daniel Thomas MacInnes why can’t those kids identify with most superheroes? Wouldn’t you think a character that is the monarchist ruler of a nation probably less relatable than most other superheroes?
@theworldsgreatestdetective81276 жыл бұрын
Daniel Thomas MacInnes I'm sorry but I can't relate with an African king of the most technologically advanced country on the planet. Or do you mean because he's black?
@Chrisratata6 жыл бұрын
edward vandermeulen they can identify with other superheroes. They always have and always will. But, yes, it being a black superhero makes it *even more* identifiable to a kid that's black. Movies are to be enjoyed by everyone but most films have a target demographic that is drawn to it even more because of the characters being a part of that same demographic (young girls drawn to Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, college students drawn to American Pie, kids drawn to The Sandlot, etc). I remember being 10yrs old seeing Macauley Culkin in Home Alone and feeling how cool it would be to be his friend because he was the same age as me. Like the analogy I made on another video, kids love superheroes because they imagine how amazing it would be to be that hero...but make a movie where the superhero *is a kid* (like Spy Kids and Sharkboy & Lavagirl) then suddenly the kid watching will imagine themselves as that hero even more (as long as it's a good movie). That kid will still love Batman and Superman but it's a unique experience for them to see a kid on screen instead. Either way, you don't have to agree with it. It's a very real psychological phenomenon that a lot of people will more quickly connect with characters that look like them. You can not accept it if you want but it won't change the reality; you not being able to relate to that reality doesn't make it false.
@azrael803046 жыл бұрын

In order to be a great BLACK Man in America’s society today you have to have a equal balance of T’Challa and Killmonger. Enough sense to see more than just your side, listen to people, understand where their mindset is, and move in a humble/royal way that’s makes people double take at you, because you showed them your more than just your skin tone. That’s the T’Challa side. The other side is being woke, not forgetting your history and where you come from, be your brothers keeper in the right way, not on some killing G’ money type shit. Be educated so that nobody can fool you, or try an throw a vail over your eyes. Having the balls to make a difference and fight for your beliefs and core values, and be outspoken unapologetically. And ultimately be willing to lay your life down if someone opposes you. That’s the Killmonger way. Both were educated, strong, and have meaningful causes behind them. Only difference was the way in which to accomplish the goal. So in turn that’s why this movie was remarkable to me. And that’s the honest truth.

I went to see it with my wife and mother in Slovenia. My mother in law from what I was told falls asleep usually in movies. She was up the entire time. They both loved it. Now we're in Slovenia, a small country in Europe where most of it's citizens have never seen a black person in real life. Especially children. Everywhere I go there, I'm met by curious stares. So my wife tells me that after the movie ended and we left the theater, these kids see me and start pointing at me excitedly, smiling and all. It really made me smile because I can only imagine what these kids were thinking. Here they are seeing a Black superhero in his own movie for the first time and then they see me, a black man for the first time right after.

Not to mention with my height and build, I fit the super hero mold. This was a role I wanted before they cast Chadwick. People would tell me they could definitely see me as Black Panther. Chadwick kills it in this movie. When I saw him in Civil War, I was at peace with his portrayal. Especially when he adopted the accent. I never understood how Scarlett Johansson plays a Russian operative and has not a lick of an accent.

For everyone who WANTED Killmonger to live, could you argue against HIS reason why he let himself die? What reasoning could you give that doesn't contradict the very reasoning you respect him for? "Bury me in the ocean, with my ancestors who knew death was better than bondage."
@cmike1236 жыл бұрын
That's an easy one. Tell him you would jail him for a little bit, but that you ultimately want him to experience Wakanda the way a citizen would. You wouldn't even jail him for long as he did not break any rules. He did burn the herb though. So short time. Show him some love like they did for Bucky.

His last line is the only thing about the movie that actually bothers me. Not that he said it; he's shown to be a sociopath the entire movie so it makes sense for him to say it. It bothers me that the film doesn't rebuff the statement in that moment. Clearly Killmonger's ancestors have to be the African's who stayed on the boat because they knew that everything isn't about you. You don't get decedents when you are dead, unless you jumped AND left your children on the boat. The nuance of that line is that death is preferred when you have no connectivity to anything else or simply don't care about anything else, like Killmonger. If you have something to protect or want to see develop, you persevere through the struggle. Killmonger was willing to kill countless people to take the throne, but he was not willing to stick out prison. It was a very powerful line, but its logic is as flawed as the character who spoke it.

I'm fine with the distinction between a figurative ancestor and a literal ancestor; but had his literal ancestors not chosen to persevere, Killmonger would not be around at all. Thanks everyone for keeping it civil while you disagree with me.

Wonderful review for a wonderful movie! I, too, felt tears welling up at several points in the movie. There’s something about “Black Panther” that just connects. Some parts I’ll mention that I haven’t seen mentioned... I love the fact that T’Challa’s heart aches for Killmonger at the end - even though he was a homicidal maniac. The boy never had a chance (and how many similar in the “real” world?”). I love it in the first post-credit scene when T’Challa says, “We have to start looking after each other better than we have been.” And makes me feel like we will. Even the second post-credit scene with Bucky - remember that T’Challa was trying to kill him in “Civil War” for killing his father (a mistaken assumption as he later found out). Marvel makes good movies period. Not just good super-hero movies. They’re doing now what Stan Lee and Jack Kirby did in comic book form in the 1960’s. The different character’s storylines are relevant and terrific on their own. The crossovers are da bomb. Kevin Feige is bringing the continuity to the MCU over the years that Stan & Jack did, and, along with hugely talented writers & film-makers, the quality just keeps going up. I never would have believed it possible. It can’t be a fluke after 10 years of hit after hit after hit. Wow. We ARE lucky to be alive to enjoy this! Now... let’s hope they don’t blow it all in “Infinity War.” I still remember “Return of the Jedi.”

Black Panther is in my top 3 fav Marvel characters so I absolutely loved seeing this on the screen. The Acoustics on this film doesn't get enough props, the score goes hand-in-hand with the visuals, this film wouldn't be the same without it. As a grown (Native) American man this shit choked me up (I didn't cry, but almost), seeing tribal people in this way was definitely powerful for me...the chanting & culture I relate to big time. Of course, I'm slightly biased as I ate some psilocybin...damn thing was bloody intense (for a while there)! LoL

When m'baku mentioned 'Glory to Hanuman' and Hanuman being a Hindu god and well known in indian culture, as an indian, it made me smile. Sad the censor board of indian apparently censored that line, afraid it would offend hindus, who do make news in India for getting offended. Look up 'Padmaavat' and you'll know all about it.

Great perspective from Kevin..... I completely agree with every point.... the social elements were wonderful especially for me but the attention to detail is what does it for me.... I love the MCU because all the movies is like one big puzzle and everything makes sense while staying true to majority of the comics..... Not taking away what it means for the culture but its really just a GREAT film.... and probably the most well thought out and perfectly executed superhero movie ever....💯

I hate that DC can’t make an amazing connected world like this. Before iron man I would probably say I knew a little more about DC and it’s heroes. And maybe even liked them more. I still love them but when Black Panther is beating you there is something wrong. Cause going by someone during 2016 working on DC movies these marvel films are just favors of the week. Nothing is bigger than batman and superman. Nice to know that is just wrong. This movie was amazing and had a few messages in it I am still thinking about. This character is not as known as DCs biggest or even some of marvel’s biggest even though he has been here for years. But if you have a great story and for this have the technology to make the world look where it needed to go the sky is the limit. Also it is nice to see people with my face on screen in s big budget blockbuster. This is not the first but it still has this specialness to it. I support all the white heroes but it is nice people are supporting the black one too. Before the movie came out I thought it was not going to do as well. Glad I was wrong. Marvel is pushing us forward even beyond just heroes and villains. After avengers 4 I will still be along for the ride. I don’t know if I can say the same for DC though. I hope they get aquaman right. If not Wonder Woman 2 probably going to be the only thing I can see until they get a Kevin that can plot a real shared universe.
