This is just about the most balanced, stoic, “honest,” and beautifully-nuanced delivery on this complex piece, especially coming from such a young artist!!! Sure, it is a bit on the guarded or maybe contained side, but I’d prefer that for this piece over what many young artists seem to do-which is to go way overboard with their expression. Clearly, this piece speaks to him in a particular way, and that is what he expresses throughout…and I am not just saying this because he is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE.

Absolutely love your playing Kevin. You play so clean, with such ease and incredible virtuosity. Love that fiddle too. Not sure what you are playing on.

@@interestedlen8823 Certainly, estimated value: a couple of million dollars? He has it on long term loan. Of course most young artists can’t afford to own a Strad or Guarneri. Some older established violinists do own their instruments, Anne Sofie Mutter owns 2 Strads, but she probably bought them many years ago when the prices were much lower . But note that a super excellent violin only sounds good when played by an excellent player, and a violin at 10 000 USD played by Kevin will sound better than a Stad played by a mediocre violinist.

This wonderful performance should be seen by many more violinists - To VIOLIN CHANNEL your posting lacks good seo metrics. "VA VANGUARD CONCERTS" is completely irrelevant ... what needs to be prominent is Kevin Zhu + Wieniawski + Faust. That's all....

Thanks for sharing! Great performance, but somehow I got the impression that Kevin only aimed at playing it right. I don't know if that's because he's too nervous or what. But I really missed its gravity (especially in the beginning) and its magical yet tragic tone. At some point, he even seemed uncomfortable with the piece. In general, I think the technique is quite okay but the music is very cold.

I will write you tomorrow - I am afraid my comment will be too long.... of course I prefer D. OISTRACH, he is unique and incomparable, he has Tschaikowsky in his arteries, with every single phase he tells us a story about the history of Jewish people in Russia - about suffering AND rejoicing - that has nothing to do with racism or practicing or technical skills or competitions - this is beyond human jealousy, envy, chauvinism, etc......
