Textbooks are great if you do them. I can start but I’ve only rarely stuck with them.

I tend to use textbooks at beginner level then I lose interest.

I like what he said about the language notebook. I never look at mine again either. Just the same day I write in it - then I may review it but even the next day, somehow it’s become too boring to look at again.

Hahaha same. I stopped doing that for that reason

Talking to other people is all fun and games until they don’t want to talk or listen to you and then it sucks. But consuming content is always fun.

This video was unhinged. You played the straight man to its nonsense. Still, it was pretty funny, so I thank you for showing me.

I tried to learn my target language without talking to people. Eventually I got so lonely after years of grinding alone that I snapped and started trying to talk to people. I still can’t speak my target language, but I can understand quite a bit. My only issue is that I keep procrastinating on speaking, so I’m kind of stuck speaking English with the new friends I’ve found online.

Have you considered booking lessons with a conversation tutor? If you have the budget for it
@DoughBrain2 ай бұрын
@@KevinAbroad I tried it once. I might consider trying it again when I can afford it. The teacher I ended up picking the first time kind of scared me, so it’s hard to remember that not everyone is going to be like them.

Oh yeah you need to try different tutors until you find one with whom it clicks. I'm not paid by italki but the tutors on there post an introduction video and it helps you see their vibe a bit

I'm German and have 40+ years of English under my belt. I started learning Russian a while ago, but had to face it, my head just took a certain amount of Russian in the beginning, so I started dabbling with Dutch. No risk to mix 'em up. If you don't learn a language for business, it should be fun.

I don't know if learning a language is easy (for most people), but maybe it is.
