We struggled so much these past few months. He regressed like crazy and now we’re on a waiting list for behavioral therapy. We are now struggling with eating as he can’t handle the textures of his favorite foods. No one really understands unless you’re living it. He’s back in school now with a mask and looking back now,it’s amazing to think back on the obstacles we faced and overcame them. I’m glad that everyone is well has recovered from this crazy situation and is doing well!

I also have autism. I know how Andy feels. All my routine has gone. All the things I enjoy have gone. All the things I need to keep my anxiety down have gone. My support worker had reduced their support to almost nothing. I’ve had eight meltdowns in five days. And don’t know how I’m going to cope.

My heart goes out to you and Anna. I have 2 autistic sons and my youngest is having a hard time with all of this and its exhausting. I have to keep explaining to him that 46 years old isn't that old and that mom isn't going to die just because she goes to the grocery store. His anxiety is just out of control 🙁 I will be keeping you and your family in my thought.

I really feel for Andy right now. I'm not autistic but I do have mental health issues and I'm really struggling not being able to distract myself going out and being around people. I guess where I'm lucky is that I at least have an understanding of why things are this way. It must be even harder for Andy not understanding what is going on and why things are being cancelled. I live alone so being trapped inside my own head is hard. Luckily I can still communicate via telephone with my support network. Sending strength and best wishes to you, Anna, Andy and the rest of the family through this difficult time

Hi Kev and Family, I hope you are all okay. I can totally relate to the issues you have with Andy as I have a 14-year-old autistic son and I myself am registered blind. This makes life quite difficult right now as you know, some children on the spectrum only eat certain foods. I use Tesco online delivery service but unfortunately all the slots are taken. My boy will only eat salt and vinegar crisps, Birds Eye chicken fingers, Tesco mash potato. It makes life very difficult when people are panic buying, especially for someone like me who could not get out as easily as others. I hope you are all hanging in there. We’ve had some meltdowns and self harming behaviours this last week. Thinking of you all xx

I needed to see this. In the same boat. Don't apologise, it is a situation that needs highlighting, even if there isn't a solution. It helps others feel less alone, we can also share ideas. I am juggling 2 autistic children and a regular child. I've decided to create routines based inside and luckily in our garden. I also have included exercise time outside away from others obviously. Plus Skype etc. I am absolutely exhausted and it's only early days. It is everyones worse nightmare. We all need to allow one another a chance to vent and a chance to have a mini breakdown! We have to let our feelings out. People will also be unnecessarily angry. It's because they have all been smacked in the head with a reality stick! Lol

You have every right to have what are your issues , just as others have every right to have their own issues - just because it may not seem as big an issue to some people doesn’t mean it is any less important. Hope you guys are doing ok. We went into lockdown here today in New Zealand and everyone is being very good and no lack of stock at my supermarket ....except hand sanitiser. I’m working in an essential service so am having to be very self aware of what I am in contact with ....! Our prime minister is amazing and the government is all about helping people with lost wages and the likes !

I’m in the same year as Andy and my GCSEs got cancelled and I also can’t visit my grandparents for a few months (I see them every Friday). All this change in routine is really upsetting me because I have Aspergers but I’ve been just about getting by thanks to South Park and anime. Hope you’re all okay.

I would set out a full routine and stick to it as much as possible so wake up same time every day write down or use pecs to show what you will be doing even if it's a simple name tracing thing for English keep it writing and keep maths maths essentially create a new routine at home it will be difficult but when she sees it will be the same everyday the anxiety will hopefully calm down

I totally understand what Andy's going through. I have autism and severe anxiety too, especially with routine changes. It's all horrible and confusing and overwhelming! Also 2 of my brothers have autism and hate changes as well, so my mum has a lot to deal with. There has been so many meltdowns in our house these past couple of weeks. I can't wait till everything gets back to normal!!

I’ve kept my kids off since Wednesday last week due to my eldest not only being autistic but he has a heart condition. And when I told the kids the schools closed my other 3 said awww I’ll miss my friends and eldest said Hurray so he’s not bothered.

We feel your pain! Our son who is also autistic has a similar issue with food as Andy and will only eat caramel snack a jacks, blue doritos and heinz biscotti biscuits and that is it. Our tesco has a limit to 3 per item so its been a nightmare. If people used there heads and shopped normally none of this would be happening. Very frustrating. Thinking of you all and hopefully our children can cope through this awful time, one can hope anyway!

The 'some people have it worse' comment is such a stupid thing to say. Yeah and? Someone in the world will always have it worse, at any time and on any day, but that doesn't invalidate your situation and/or feelings. The people in the comments saying you're over reacting over the lack of fish fingers and waffles are actually making me a bit angry. They obviously haven't been watching for long and don't realise that if Andy doesn't get his foods he will be hospitalised. And that will cause a WHOLE HOST of problems. I've been watching for nearly 2 and a half years and your family has got me through a lot of hard times. Whenever I want to chill and escape you're always there so I feel bad knowing you're all going through such a rough time at the moment. Ignore the haters Kev, just tell them what I said at the beginning. Just because someone has it worse doesn't invalidate your experience or feelings!!

We live in the us and our schools have been closed for a week now where I live. I have an autistic son who is six. He had been attending a special school and is having a lot of trouble adjusting to the change of routine and now homeschool. So I completely understand the situation your family is in. It is hard to watch him struggle and meltdown. It hurts to not be able to help him understand the importance of what we have to do. Anyway I just wanted to show support and wish you the best.

I had been told that due to my mum being a supermarket worker that I can continue going to school this week by 2 different teachers and my year leader but then when I got to school I was told I can't go to school anymore as I am year 11

Shoot, I'm 60 and I've lived through the Vietnam war, 9-11, and nearly perished from the pandemic of 1968. This is like nothing I've ever been through before. It's tough on everyone, and I feel so bad for Andy and other "little ones" who can't understand what all the fuss is about. At least some of us can understand what the reasons are, even though the isolation is ghastly. To Andy, this is all just nonsense and unfair.

I live in a small village with less than 300 people, and one grocery shop. Luckily for us, most of the people here are sensible and not stockpiling, but where my dad lives (with quite a bit more people) there has been certain items that are completely out of stock and it's crazy. What a world we live in

Hope you are feeling better 👍 my teenage child had melt down where they was struggling to cope with no rountine being couped up with this virus and having to cope with selfish neighbours shouting and banging for them too be quite but my child lucky they calmed down as quickly as possible so I know who you feel as parents trying to do the best you can for your children in these difficult times trying find food to eat that they like! looking back on the shut down…never would’ve imagined toilet paper would be our undoing…..I got a new job, worked a couple months..then got forloughed from said job when they had to set aside the lowest rung people due to lack of work load since no one was getting procedures done to bill. I can’t imagine how it affected autistic children across the world who had set routines and limited safe foods…

Totally understand kevin & Anna, so so hard for him & u guys, i have to self isolate cos im in the high risk group, so is my parents due to health conditions, Couldn’t even see my mum this mothers day & that really hurt, my birthday is in 3 wks & it will be spent all alone, There’s no online delivery with any of the supermarkets up til 13th April, Im basically stuffed in a few wks, ... I know that there are reasons why the girl's mom and you divorced (obviously, cause otherwise you wouldn't be divorced), but she seems like a nice lady thinking about Andy when honestly, she doesn't have too. Also, the girl's are turning out to be great humans and their mom has 50% to do with that. Poor Andy! He just keeps getting his life interrupted. I was so happy to see him enjoy the inflatable place over the last few weeks, but he can't go there now. As well as not being able to go into McDonalds, see churches, ride trams, volunteer....his whole life, other then his electronics, have been taken from him. Please keep us updated, I know you will! Also, about Anna's university experience. As someone also in university (in America), it interests me to see how her experience is going.

Hope ur not to stressed after the earlier announcement tonight from the PM about the mandatory “lockdown”. they have said that there are so many restrictions on being in public👎🏻.My anxiety is through the roof as EVERYTHING in my world(and everyone else’s) has got to change. I’m stressing cos I’m immunosuppressed I can’t have any human contact(bar my personal care from my carer’s) for the nxt 4 months. I don’t live near any of my family. So I’m stressing that I’m not going to be able to get everything I need. it’s going to be just me and my 2 rescue dogs for the foreseeable future. I hope that some of the measures announced by the chancellor the other day to help self employed ppl will actually help you if you need it. In Massachusetts everything is shut down for right now we have to stay home we are allowed to go grocery shopping and pick up our medication that's it oh yeah and we are allowed 2 take out but we are not allowed to sit in restaurants
