Hi Kevin! 🦋 I have a question. In the vid above, for year 3, we were to calculate 60% of the previous year, which was year 2. So isn't the total for year 3 supposed to be as follows : 2.28 + 0,6(2,28) = 3,65 Because the Question asked to calculate 60% of the *previous year*

Simrah, yes I hear you. Be careful though. It grows 60% of the previous years GROWTH. So we must look at how much it grew in year 2. Which is only 0.48m so we only make it 60% of that amount.

it’s the pattern of the growth. So they give us three values. 1, 1.8, 2.28 The differences of those values form a second pattern. 0.8, 0.48, 0.29 This second pattern is a geometric sequences because the constant ratio is 0.6 which is equal to 60%. So because the ratio is 0.6 it is a converging geometric sequences so we use the sum to infinity formula to workout the max value. When you do that you get 2. So we know the maximum GROWTH is 2m and we add that to the first value of 1m which gives three meters

Year 3 will be 2.28+(0.6x0.48) because it grew by 60% of the previous year’s growth, the previous year’s growth is 0.48, so you multiply that by 60% and add it to the total height of the previous year(total height of year 2 is 2.28) in this question, the height of the tree does not grow by 60% but the how much the growth of the tree between the previous year and the year before it grows by 60%. I know it’s a mouthful but I hope it makes sense😭😭
