I use that one too :) You still need to show calculations but you can check your answers with the silver one which is nice!! :) If you really panicking in a test, dont show calculations but just use the values and carry on :)

Isn't 8.4 refering to the derivative of the cubic function...as in the parabola?

Yes, it would be a parabola, but we can also simply use the mathematics of it as we already have the original f(x). We dont physically need to be able to see the parabola.
