I love this suv. Now I just bought my third one. This time I got the Xuv . I use it for work + plus sometimes I tow Trailor. Usually I drive it about 200k additional to the original ~90k mileage then get another one. I don’t even bother to fix them. Parts are chip too specially if you know a little about cars.

I have an 07 at 149,000 and still love it. The only things I can remember was the brain went, tie rods within the first 2 years and had 70,000 miles when I purchased it in 2011, ball joints recently, new brakes as needed, new tires twice, regular oil changes. This thing runs like a horse. I have since bought a Ford Focus while Envoy brain was being replaced. Huge mistake on that note and can't wait to get rid of it and it is a 2015 nothing but clutch and transmission problems. Still paying it off yet. Glad I kept my Envoy way more reliable!!!

My 03 with 230,000 miles, only use full synthetic oil, replaced struts, ball joints, and other parts that wear out. It's the long wheel base, has less git up and go than the short. Or my engine is not as strong. Either way, it's a cruiser. I once used the oil sensor to tell me when to change the oil, it go so sluggish at about 13% I went ahead and changed it. I usually go about 5000 miles. To my understanding, full synthetic won't sludge up? I also use marvel mystery oil from time to time. It will lose a quart of oil, but not on a consistent basis, kind of weird. When I changed spark plugs, the one under the fire wall broke, I thought the socket was on, but it was beside it. Some porcelain fell into the cylinder. I used the other car and went to the stores, bought a bought scope camera (not all will fit, get the smallest possible) and some copper, toilet water tube. I hooked up the copper tube to the shop vac and use the bore camera to watch it all get sucked up. Owning a car for a lifetime is an adventure.

I might add that I had front hubs replaced (one squeaked) and, in Mexico. I spent 1K for 4K worth of work replacing the ball joints, rack&pinion and a head job, etc., from an A+ mechanic. Labor rates are a KILLER in the USA - so difficult for some to properly maintain their cars.

I know they come lower in the front, but I just got my right axle done & the guy made my front alignment damn near perfect. I know air springs aren’t the best, what do you recommend? May, wanna do a 2 inch lift w some beefier tires.. just keep her a tank as I’m paying off the Lexus in the future

228,318 miles ..... The most major or thing I’ve had to do to my ( Deep South purchased and driving in ) 2010 Envoy to date is the shift solenoids in the transmission which I did myself. Other then that just a couple of sensors and an alternator and brakes one rotor and tires . It’s been a great vehicle . The reason I state where it’s purchased and being driven is that WHERE YOU BUY IT SND DRIVE IT AND WHAT CONDITIONS YOU DRIVE IT have a lot to do with the life it can have. So a California or Texas Envoy can do much better then say a state such as Michigan where the temperatures are extreme changes roads are rough and salt on the roads. Another thing to keep in mind is interstate highway miles vs city miles. LOVE THIS VEHICLE !!! Except the rear 3 rd brake spoiler ... both my envoys they snapped off going down the HWY ... a problem with envoys

The engine in the Denali is a 5.3 but it is not as good as the 5.3 engine in the GMC Yukon or Chevy Suburban. It's aluminum, so a lighter engine, but it won't last as long as the engine in the Suburbans. I have almost 200K miles on my '06 GMC Envoy Denali and it's fun to drive, so we usually drive it locally while using the larger vehicle for trips and hauling.

I had an issue a while ago where the transmission wouldn't downshift out of overdrive when I stepped on the gas pedal. I replaced all the shift solenoids and that fixed my problem. While I had the transmission drained, I also installed a Transgo shift kit.

You will have to remove the rear trim panel on the hatch to access the mechanism. My rear glass button was stuck and I had to remove the trim and fix the button. What's wrong with the water pump? Are the bearings going out on it? If so, replace it.

Yes and beyond but you wil have to replace the front axle housing acutator every 100, 000.

I expect 400,000 unless the trans dies. You have replaced all the normal wear stuff that would kill normal engines by 300K so I expect 400K and maybe even 500K if you replace the trans at some point. I thought the gauges being wonky were due to the stepper motors on these ? Do they have computer problems as well causing it ?

I went back and looked at the receipt from the dealer and it says they replaced the instrument cluster, not the computer. But I'm not sure why that would reset the odometer. 300k here we come!

@@KevinNadeau just like in the older analog days of odometer, the digital dash also stores the odometer in the dash itself. They have the ability to set the milage though at the dealership so not sure why they didn't. I am glad to hear it wasn't the computer. I sold mine but my sister just bought one with 120K miles so I watch your videos just in case a problem happens with hers. ( and in case I get another one some day. )

I just bought a 2004 envoy xuv 5.3 and it’s very clean everything works but now my check engine light came on and I notice when I park the hood is very very hot I’m wondering if I need a fan clutch

is your temperature gauge going to the right of the "210" mark? If it was close to overheating you should see it getting hotter as you drive it. The fan clutch is a known failure on these, and when they go bad they typically set off a check engine light. Usually, the trade mark failure sound is it sounding like a jet engine constantly while driving, with reduced power. I would get the code read by Advanced, or any auto parts store. The clutch fan takes about an hour to do, however, its not that hard to do (plenty of videos on how to change it). The hard part is lining up the fan so you can start hand tightening it onto the threads then its smooth sailing from there.

Bro... fan clutch was not hard to replace. Ive done it multiple times on my Envoy and ended up installing an electric fan instead

Envoys are excellent cars for the driving experience, BUT the Yukon or Suburbans are better given they are easier to work on and one I have has 320K of easy maintenance.

@@KevinNadeau The recent Yukon XL or Suburban are amazing vehicles; however, they are NOT built as well and require more maintenance than the earlier versions. Also, they are not fun to drive because you have the complex suspension system and don't feel the road much; also, they do things strangely so it's more expensive and more work to maintain these cars. Still, they can be economical for used ones in good condition, but be aware the workmanship can cause problems BECAUSE GM builds cars the government wants; not cars their customers want!!!! Buyer beware!!!

Yes it is! I did put a shift kit in it and replace the shift solenoids, but other than that, it's original. I have probably pulled a utility trailer 10 times in its life.

Man love my Envoy it's an 03' & roughly has 276,000 but I swapped out instrument clusture & for some odd reason the odometer readings are reading from the new cluster which has 209,824 but my original one had 248,065 when I swapped? Don't understand the reading bring off by that margin but anyways! This thing has been a work horse for me & I wanted to get a newer GMC like the Acadia but I'm still on the fence about it! I love the fact that mines rear-wheeled drive & on a true truck frame which makes it very capable? I wish they'd make a new GMC Envoy but I doubt it! It's been so solid save for some overheating issues water pumps, radiator replacement,fan clutch, upper ball joints getting lowers done next & catalytic converter (2) transmission twice because a dealership didn't tell me I had a trans leak & the next day lost my transmission? But over all engine is rock solid! Use only Pennzoil in her!

Got an offer and Thinking about buying a 05 Denali envoy with about 145k mi for about $5k for a point A to B car. Don’t know much about GMCs reliability in the 2000s tho. Think it would be a fair/decent deal?

That seems reasonable. I would ask for service records and also check Kelly Blue Book values. And have it checked out by a mechanic before you buy it.

Make sure to check for A/C compressor seizing (which when I test drive the 2002 I was going to buy did not manifest itself. After I bought, I drive it home and the compressor started seiizing. Let it run at idle with the AC for at least 20 minutes and turn AC on/off randomly to test compressor reaction.) Also, ask if timing chain has been replaced and pay attention to the idle and watch out for engine idle dipping and stumbling or it may even tend to shut off due to low idle.

I bought an 2002 TB last month for $2300 146 k miles. I failed to screen the compressor. Hook up a scanner to see whats going on with the engine. If engine and tranny are ok, thats 80% of the equation. The engines on these things are solid and transmissions are very good

It has stalled on me once or twice. I cleaned the throttle body and haven't had any problems since. Maybe that could take care of your stalling issues too.
