Let's Ride .... Deer Prairie Creek Preserve: A Cyclist's Paradise
Ready to explore the scenic beauty and diverse trails of Deer Prairie Creek Preserve? This hidden gem offers a haven for cyclists seeking a variety of riding experiences. Whether you're a road bike enthusiast, a gravel grinder, or a mountain bike adventurer, there's a trail for you.
In this video, Joy and I embarked on a 30-mile loop that showcases the best of the preserve. We started at the south entrance, where we were greeted by a charming pedestrian bridge over a small branch of the Myakka River. The trailhead features kayak launches, fishing piers, picnic tables, and convenient access to the Alphabet Trail, a groomed path perfect for gravel and other bikes with wider tires but totally doable on a traditional road bike.
Beyond the trailhead, we ventured into a network of horse trails and grass roads, offering endless opportunities for exploration. The terrain varies from smooth, paved surfaces to challenging dirt tracks, ensuring a satisfying ride for all skill levels.
Our route took us through the scenic T. Mabry Carlton area, where we encountered towering oaks and lush wetlands and huge trailside alligators. We also explored the Myakkahatchee Environmental Park, home to a rich diversity of wildlife and natural habitats. The final leg of our journey led us along the North Port Legacy Trail Connector, a picturesque path that winds through a mix of forests, fields, and waterways.
With its stunning scenery, well-maintained trails, and variety of riding options, Deer Prairie Creek Preserve is an ideal destination for cyclists seeking an unforgettable adventure. So grab your bike and join us as we explore this hidden gem!
