San Francisco has some of the best equipment. When they're responding it sounds fantastic. All that engine noise, air horns blaring , and sirens screaming, echoing through the streets, makes you feel like they'll move heaven and earth just to get to you. There are real challenges to fighting fires in San Francisco and the men and women of S.F.F.D. meet those difficulties on a daily basis. I think they're just great.

The sound of a manual siren and air horn is very different in a big city with multi story buildings on each side. I moved out of the big city I grew up in more than 45 years ago and watching this video transported me to the times I visited downtown. I've done a bit of walking around in San Francisco so watching took me back to those experiences. I don't miss these experiences, I don't leave the rural area I live in very often anymore. Thanks for this video!

My Mother lived at 775 Post Street for 17 years. You can see the building in the far right at Post & Leavenworth at 3:41 in the video. 3 blocks left of that is the fire station. We constantly heard fire engines the entire time we lived there including when an arsonist set fire to the apartment next to ours in 1972 which gave my Mother her first heart attack and left me fighting the fire because I had been in the front of our apartment on the 6th floor doing homework for college & the smoke was too thick to see how to get out so I played a hose on the door of the burning apartment until firemen arrived.

I'm so glad I live in San Francisco. We got a wonderful fire department. I reported a small fire in my building on the 3rd floor and as soon I got off the phone with the 911 operator they were coming already.Fire was contain and only 1 unit was damage, fire started in the kitchen. Someone left a dish cloth by the flame on the gas stove and started the fire.

Well I'm glad your safe, was the fire engine badly damaged
The SFFD always has a major response to fires in the city. The proximity of the structures can turn a small fire into a whole block of flames. Ever since the 1906 earthquake SFFD has been doing this. Kind of like having a gun and not needing it. Better too many resources.

Nice catch! This is why I like the San Francisco Fire Department. The responses are heavy, especially if its for a call like a fire alarm. San Jose FD only sends their first due Engine and Truck. The response for the SFFD is like a full first alarm for SJFD, except with 2 Battalion Chiefs, not just one and minus one engine. I am a huge fire buff myself and I am a HUGE fan of responses and this is an example of an EPIC Response!

I hope when I come to the States in the near future from South Australia I’ll get to see a response like this! Apart from wanting to see the glorious and massive freight trains you have in the state of California I also want to see some fire trucks too! As that is my other passion from railways and tramways. The fire trucks over there are a little different to what we have in service with the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service (MFS). I love your old fire stations too or firehouses as you guys and girls call them. So much character to them. And the noise of these trucks screaming down the city streets is absolutely awesome. Absolutely love these videos! 👌😍🇺🇸 Thanks for posting. Cheers Caleb

when you do...LA is the place to be for responses...the city fire dept runs a task force (2 engines 1 truck) with a light force (200 engine, truck) and typically two more engines to a structure fire with ambulances, battalion chief, and if greater...more than that. but i'm guess you knew that and that we even have a tow truck for special rescues, collapses, and certain overhaul operations.

It's not so much to do with an earthquake and fire 1906 or other yr. Every FD sends large responses to tall buildings. And/or downtown. You need the manpower and it's better to have more than you need then not enough.
@jackgibsxxx07502 жыл бұрын
And I may have lost count but I only saw 4 Engines, 2 Tillers, a BC and a HR. My mid size town will send 2/3 Engines and a (the) Tower truck and an EMS to EVERY fire. They would like a 2nd Truck to respond but we only have one. If they "need" another one they can git one of the nearby smaller towns to send a "stick" truck.(we have one of the only two platform/towers in the (large) county)

Not in SF....tightly packed urban dwellings and lots of those being wooden or built before modern fire codes...you want that many resources coming to help. NYC, LA, and Chicago send similar amounts of equipment to their calls. It is far easier to turn back trucks than it is to not have enough, and then call them in from other parts of the city. Also, I don't think you would complain if that many trucks responded to a fire at your house...so why complain on here?
