I tried drawing one of my comic characters in paint .net several years ago and didn't get very far because the circles were so atrocious and ovals are what I build everything on. It's really a shame they haven't gotten around to fixing it.

Lol, there aren't many programs good for the larger scale pixel art I do. If someone really loved my style and wanted help picking a program, I'd probably recommend Paint.net rather than my beloved MS Paint since it has so many (relatively) advanced features.

I personally love paint.net for realistic/touching up photos. I honestly think that I prefer paint.net from Microsoft paint because of how the lines curve smoothly. Paint.net also has plugins which are basically add-ons to paint.net. (only get them from forums.getpaint.net, anywhere else could be a virus as all other sites aren't official) The reason I bring up the topic of plugins is because There is a useful plugin for this type of art. It is called shapemaker. Here is a link explaining the plugin, how it works, and the download. forums.getpaint.net/topic/110677-shapemaker-by-the-dwarf-horde-v160-august-7-2020/ Here is how to install plugins: (since like you said, you are new to paint.net) forums.getpaint.net/topic/1708-how-to-install-pluginsgeneral-plugin-troubleshooting-thread/ Anyway, you probably won't switch full time to paint.net since you are used to and seem to prefer MS Paint which I totally understand, I'm just sharing this if you wan't to use the program every once in a while, or for people who just see this comment. I also have some tutorials to help you understand the program better on my channel if you need them :D BTW: I subscribed :D
@KevinJTracy4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub! I actually find the curves (lines and circles) are more rigid and ugly in Paint.net vs MS Paint. But the touch up tools are great. If I met a young pixel artist just starting out and wanting to do what I do, I'd first tell them to prepare to be broke. After that, I'd tell them to start in Paint.net rather than MS Paint. The simple fact that you have layers and unlimited undos make this immensely easier software to use. Working within the limits of MS Paint makes me more creative than I would be using other software, but hardship with your tools isn't the only way (or the best way) to pull creativity from yourself. Anyway, if it wasn't for the circle tool sucking so bad, I might have actually made the switch by now. I suspect it's because they let you rotate ovals freely that the pixels appear in weird places. But if they could fix the code to create MS Paint caliber ovals in pixel art form that could also be rotated freely and add an option to use an MS Paint curved line tool without handles, I'd probably be sold. Having high quality ovals and being able to make really fast curves (without adjusting handles) are essential to my workflow. I really want to love Paint.net, but it's just not quite there yet. But, I will look at these plugins to see if any of them might solve my problems.

@KevinJTracy4 жыл бұрын
Lol, keep in mind that I normally work in MS Paint, which allows me the whopping total of 1 layer. To be honest, I'm amazed at all the layers other artists use in other programs and the fact that they can manage that all from small pictures on a list of layers. Maybe I should challenge myself to use more layers next time I use Paint.net
