I too have a Masamune Nodachi, very very close shave with a feather blade. The blade is ridiculously rigid and IMO it is the closest you will get to a straight razor shave. Keep your skin flat by stretching apply no pressure. Two days growth 1 pass and touch up. 4 days growth 2 pass and touch up. Just stunning, agree very smooth you can hardly feel the blade. Closest shave i have ever had. Have a red tip, a slant and an outlaw. This just pips the outlaw but only just IMO. Well done Kevy great channel really enjoy your scottish sense of humour. You are the only you tuber that shaves properly and your lather is on another level. Love your vids !

Hi kevy, Just watching this again! I have just shaved with my Masamune closed comb ( Not my Nodachi), Castle forbes lavender cream, 4th use Gillette minora blade and my 26mm knot FS Manchurian badger brush. A slow 3 pass shave with pick-ups. It was a fabulous shave. Everything on this shave was great. Razor and blade great, soap very slick, brush great with a good amount of backbone for a manchurian badger. Great to watch you again!! I haven't been watching or posting recently as I've been going through horrible biopsys etc for Prostrate cancer and 12 weeks with a Catheter (😖😖). I have low risk cancer so it's not too bad and the pills I'm on have allowed me to manage without the Catheter and waterworks back to normal. I hope you, Mrs Kevy and Riley are well Sir!! Dave.

I'm SOLD!! I had been saving for a Blackland, but my desire has now shifted toward the Nodachi. I was certain the Feather would leave irritations galore. But this shave sounded as smooth as it looked. I did take note that you were paced with more care in speed. The conclusion being a two pass, with pickups! That alone was the selling point for me. Your last episode put me in touch with Tatara via Instagram. I went on their site, and I became bewildered at the absolute quality of manufacture in machining stainless with compromise to form. This razor is a winner, and I am anxious with excitement as to the next blade pairing! You have always inadvertently got me to spend money, but this time I won't ever regret the purchase. Thanks again, mate! A blade wielded in the the darkness. Never turn your back on The Ripper. Enjoy a safe, and restful weekend. Please forward the same to the remaining Parr family.

Definitely tempted to buy the Tatara. I have seen you with other less aggressive, albeit aggressive razors and those usually tear your face up some. Like I mentioned on that last shave, Tatara actually put out their technical specs including blade angle of exposure, gap, and actual amount of blade exposure which is 0.13mm negative from plane of the shave, which is why it is so smooth. If I do get the Tatara, I'd pull trigger on the regular Masamune and not the No Dachi. That one has a 0.53mm gap and should be more daily driver friendly.

Nice shave and video, Kevy (as always). It's nice to see someone else follow the quality of the shave to determine how many passes one does. As I've said before, I shave every day and generally only do two passes and pickups mostly because the shaves are just so close, it doesn't really warrant a third pass -- I've tried it and it just irritates my skin. Great job at listening to your ... face (I guess?). Have a great weekend, my friend.

Great shave Kevy. I’m always amazed that most wet shavers on youtube just shave in long strokes right over their Adam’s apple. That is the one area that really slows me down and I need to pull skin to either side and go gently. Watching you vids had definitely helped improve my technique though.

Hi Nick. Try taking a gulp and holding it before you swallow. The adams apple disappears and is a good way to shave over it. You can see me do that in most of my vids. But if pulling the skin to the side works for you, then that's ok too. Cheers. Kevy 👍

Hi Lucas. I think it depends on what you like in a shave. The Feather AS-d2 is a real classy razor. It is very mild but it's efficient and gets the job done too. The Nodachi is a little more efficient than the Feather but still, it doesn't feel harsh in any way. I think the Nodachi is the more versatile of the two as if it's paired with a milder blade it will still out-perform the Feather. Cheers. Kevy 👍

Love the look of this beauty! After some advice though if you’d be so kind? I’m late 20s and just switched over to Safety Razor to try and combat years of horrible razor burn/bumps (mainly under chin) also have really coarse stubble growth. Been using the Merkur 23c for a couple of months now and loving it. Just wish it could sometimes leave a closer shave, seems a little too mild?? Looking at a slant razor as they sound to be even better for sensitive skin and the coarse beard but do you knowledgeable gents have any suggestions on a high quality slant razor? Not too worried about price, bit of an investment is fine. And with it being more aggressive would you recommend switching to a slant so soon or leave it for a few more months of experience as it is still relatively new to me? Cheers in advance fellas
@kevyshaves41095 жыл бұрын
I would say a slant razor would be a nice step up for you. The 3 that I would recommend are the Parker semi-slant, the RazoRock German slant and the Merkur 37C. All great razors. Have you considered an adjustable razor?They can be dialled up or down to let you choose the level of aggression you want. Cheers. Kevy 😀👍
@TheLogicprouser5 жыл бұрын
Kevy Shaves great, thanks I’ll give them a look any of them stainless steel would you know? I have thought about adjustables but wasn’t aware of any adjustable slant razors? I think the slant aspect will be more helpful to me than the adjustable part from what I’ve seen. The slant sounds like it’ll help slice through the hair smoother reducing irritation so that seems to be priority for me over adjustable aggressiveness? Does that make sense? Grateful for any advice if I’ve got that wrong though. Thanks again 👍

Great shave, Kevy! My (low-aggression) Tatara Masamune just shipped today, and I can hardly wait to try it out. I expect I'll do what you did: start with an Astra SP (my reference blade), then go to a Feather (since that's what comes with the razor), then try another familiar blade, say, a Nacet or Personna Lab Blue. Maybe it's too soon for you to say, but do know how much of the improvement from Shave #1 to Shave #2 to credit to the Feather blade versus your knowing the razor better? Cheers.
@kevyshaves41095 жыл бұрын
I think the difference was a combination of things between the shaves. The soap was a better performer than the TOBS cream, the Feather is a sharper blade so I was taking more time to shave and I think not doing 3 passes AND a pickup pass helped. Cheers. Kevy 👍
