30 years on and I still get goosebumps when the bass comes forward at the end of the Galaxy 500 version. It makes me feel old and young at the same time.

It is still very exciting, that bass moment. I can remember this on cassette, 1984 Nissan, driving through New Hampshire into Maine on a sleeting day in April

It is a bit lacklustre, though. Maybe it is supposed to be ever so slightly catatonic. I like it! Perhaps one has to on heroin, or valium, or some other tranquilliser, to get into it, properly. As someone said about Radio head's music, once. I can feel my life force ebbing away from me. Bastards! 💖

It´s Dean´s very own atmospheric and charismatic voice that makes this song so distinctive and fascinating...though the guitar sound is extraordinary too....like always.

Joy Division 's Ian Curtis's last song , and New Order 's first . Ian and Bernard Sumner are beyond the infinite phenomenal , and Dean is equally awesome, with a treasure trove of nearly as many great songs as JD/NO. this is a wonderful heartfelt version of Ceremony .

Lyrics: This is why events unnerve me, They find it all, a different story, Notice whom for wheels are turning, Turn again and turn towards this time, All she ask's the strength to hold me, Then again the same old story, World will travel, oh so quickly, Travel first and lean towards this time. Oh, I'll break them down, no mercy shown, Heaven knows, it's got to be this time, Watching her, these things she said, The times she cried, Too frail to wake this time. Oh I'll break them down, no mercy shown Heaven knows, it's got to be this time, Avenues all lined with trees, Picture me and then you start watching, Watching forever, forever, Watching love grow, forever, Letting me know, forever.

@erikjleiken4 жыл бұрын
@@adm8995 when Joy Division played it, it was merely a work in progress since it was their latest song (besides "In a Lonely Place") and Ian was probably still tweaking lyrics here and there. It was obvious that it was a powerful song for Ian, and when New Order rose from the ashes of Joy Division after Ian died, you could hear the emotions of the members when they performed it. Ones I know they didn't acknowledge due to being young and oblivious. Dean Wareham did a good job covering the song with Galaxie 500 and on his own after. He did it differently, but very well.

Dean seems uninterested in the vocal here. Or maybe he was having throat issues. I sped it up to 1.25 and it sounds like the Galaxie 500 recorded version. I used to love when they played this live. If Kramer was on tour with them he would join them on guitar.
