I was shocked at her ability to change range, tonality, and pitch effortlessly when I saw her live this summer. This is a nice recording but it doesn't do her talent justice. I think she has a bit of a cold here possibly because her range switches so fast and clearly, usually, that one can speculate there might be a small throat strain in this recording. It's no less beautiful to be clear though. It is something of a wonder she's able to stay in stride with that much emotion. She is indeed a gift for we who are able to enjoy these moments. Thanks for commenting. I enjoyed a great deal of this thread. Much Love, Chad
@cruelyear2 жыл бұрын
@@cageragepodcast2795 yes completely! i saw her in AZ about a month ago now, and had the same expierence. literally no tonal difference from the recordings of the songs she played. if anything she took a few riffs further than she does in the studio versions! and yeah i see what you're saying -- i figured she was probably a bit nervous. but like you said, still incredibly impressive! thank you for your reply :) i don't get to indulge in paragraphs long ethel cain convos a lot, so this was nice haha!

THE LAST TEMPTATION I am constantly crusading against myself because the thought of you breaking your own covenant just is inconceivable Morals and values one has don't change overnight They're burning into your being they bring justice to one's life So I go on and re-read your bible since its etched into my memory, a substance more unto everlasting than stone and go over the commandments Did I break a vow What sin did I commit Or was it that I committed myself to you not to your beliefs I placed a god before your god but this temple had no thieves This holy war just has too many holes, too many prayers, too many questions all unanswered Still I need some proof, something tangible to end this campaign against my self because I'm sacrificing myself to this shrine of songs, movies, books, authors, artists, sounds, foods, drinks, places, and automobiles that I have erected in my mind not knowing it was consecrated until you became idle. by LRJ

Revelation 16:17-19 “For even the seventh was poured, a bowl into the air, great voice came out of the temple from the throne saying, “DONE.” BARACK voiced thunder great, shaking of a manner as never had been from the time man had come into being on Earth, this person was of great lineage, great earthquake like unto this. "I'm looking for a substitute for the overdone trite thing" by lrj You are not who you're suppose to be. You are not like the rest - You're different. You seem to have the ability to survive - on your own. I think that's what I like about you. she smiled; her eyes burning bright like the celestial bodies of the cloudless night. You are so very different from anyone I've met You carry on happily, solemnly without regret You bow to none - having none of rank You pass along quietly as a river its' bank You are not silent - though your quiet deceives You are one alone, you do as you please. I think that's what I like about you she smiled; her cheeks blooming rose like after the first warm rains end the mem'ry of snows. You are not who you're suppose to be You are not like the rest, but like infinity You are not like the rest only restlessness ever You won't be tied down - and committed - Oh! Never! You won't be persuaded, you either do or you don't You won't go gently into that good night, Oh, no! You won't I think - that's what I like about you. She smiled; her brow furrowed slight like a rippling breeze over water in the moon - light. You are not who you're suppose to be You are everything that contradicts me You seem to have the ability to survive on your own I think that is why I must break you bone from bone.

I first heard her music on a Spotify-generated playlist with the likes of Tori Amos, Fiona Apple, etc. I was blown away immediately. The music hit me in a way that Tori Amos's seminal album (Little Earthquakes) did. The effect was immediate and profound. I wonder if they listen to each other's music. I read that two of her influences are Christian music and Gregorian chant. Brilliant! I never expected those two influences from anyone, but upon listening to more of her music, it makes sense. I've seen Spotify and KZbin always push this artist as one I should listen to (Based on other stuff I listen to). Today is the day I finally clicked on one, damn I wished I listened sooner. She is simply amazing.

The way she is bridging the gap between pop and something more... She has done the unimaginable. People who have never heard of Sybille Baier, Melanie, Karen Dalton, even Joni Mitchell, who are discovering those artists through her bridge, it's phenomenal.

It’s incredible how great her voice is, let alone how it sounds nearly the same as the studio recordings. Here’s to hoping I get to see her live one day!

I'm a huge Daughter and Florence fan and seen them both multiple times, and now it's little wonder that I loved this woman's voice immediately on first listen. Love that she's inspired by them, hope to see Ethel in my neck of the woods soon.

This touched me deeply, im struggling to deal with a very painful past and connect with people who won't abuse me, and Ethels vulnerability is very inspiring to me. The drug abuse, SA and everything which I felt and feel shame and loneliness from, I feel less alone listening to her music.
