Gonna say it - Jim's smiles, grins and winks totally make it. He looks like if suddenly your grandfather turned into Superman, and then winked that it was just a family secret.

His bizarre cadence and his drone chords are super uniquely his. Hes a master guitarist. He creates such a weird atmosphere. I learned so much about guitar from this guy. Make no mistake, this is high art and folk art together as 1.

really subtle thing I notice here and caught when I saw them in concert - the rhythm section. Jimbo will do some snaps (i.e. letting the string hit the fretboard after plucking) and slaps (i.e. hitting the fretboard), then will switch to traditional non-slap playing while rim shots are taken. So you always (or often) have that famous slap sound, but it moves back and forth for a different texture. its the little things that make this band.

🫡 I’m happy to hear that! 🤟🏻🎸playing the guitar is one of the greatest feelings ever and it’s still really fun for me everyday for a couple hours even after 38 years. I’ve been playing lots of Buckethead’s more mellow solo “ Pikes” material lately 😄( most of its all on KZbin 👍🏻 NatterNet channel ) I love that guys playing as well, he is amazing and can play Anything imaginable! he’s absolutely incredible! ) I look forward to playing the guitar more than anything else in my life. I consider it the greatest thing I ever did for myself to learn playing guitar and it’s just for my own amusement. I’m still learning something new almost everyday and it will never stop but it’s as easy or hard as I feel like making it at any given moment. To me it’s the best hobby ever and it’s also great to get into a fun, interesting and different headspace than the daily grind. No matter what kind of music you like playing personally VS. what you just listen to as well , I find it really helps with relaxing ( even if what you play is intricate, heavy or isn’t very mellow or relaxing at all ! 😄) from this stressful world we live in nowdays. I absolutely love watching/ hearing Jim rip on a guitar, he’s so Awesome, such an amazing and unique guitarist and songwriter. The Rev’s music definitely has that thing that makes you think “ I really need to play a guitar right this instant , look at how much fun he’s having up there.” What a fantastic live show ! 😮 his playing makes me smile and I’m damn near speechless watching him go off. The guy plays like a Texas bluesman / country / metal / rock’n roll / rockabilly / lounge singer madman, it’s absolutely incredible to witness! 😄 ) , and it makes you feel like “I want to feel a bit of that crazy fun vibe in my life too“ effect on a person… Especially if you’re a guitarist of Any type of playing style🤣. Kinda like … Hmm maybe I can get that little part of it right away while i work on a few sections of it , will I ever get it all? Probably not … Jim is leagues ahead of my skill level, But if I can have some fun with it and even play a bit of it while I figure 🤔🎸 out some of the other parts that’s a win for me ! 😄 and I really do want to learn some of his songs /solos etc. just to get a bit of that rockabilly style mixed into my own playing. Why would anyone who plays 🤷♂️ Not want some of that in their bag of tricks? 😄 The Rev’s music in particular looks like a blast to play once you get even just some small parts of it nailed down. 👍🏻Welcome back to guitarland 🎸brother ! 😊 Hope it’s going well and even more that you’re having a lot of fun with it!

One of my few regrets in life regarding music: I saw them live at the House of Blues in Orlando ~15 years ago. I was standing in the very front row, and Jimbo gestured like he wanted to pull me up on stage with them during their last encore, but I had to leave because I was working super early the next day (like 5 AM) it was already about midnight (because they'll sometimes play until they're kicked out), and I had an hour drive home. Why oh why didn't I let him get me up there?!? Or at least give him a kiss on the cheek! I don't care that I was 22 and he was probably in his mid-to-late 40's; oh my God, that man has made me melt since the first time I saw him walk out on stage! I was an *IDIOT* for passing up that opportunity!!!!
