Love you Justin, you were taken way too early from us. I got to meet him 7-8 times at his shows, and he was always the nicest guy to me. He even remembered me from his previous shows and asked me if I wanted to smoke with him. I don’t even smoke, but I did that last night. We talked about addiction and how it’s impacted our lives. He gave me the motivation to get past my demons and move forward. I’m finally off of all my pain medication thanks to Justin. Wish he could have done the same. Love you Justin, rest easy buddy.

I think that not too deep down he truly wanted to leave, and I think that's okay. As sad as this sounds, many want to leave but can't or don't know how. He will live on in the veins of those of us who really feel him, who get goosebumps when he plays, who might occasionally cry a little bit when he plays. This set is so amazing, there are no words.

I once heard Jeff Tweedy saying that the true test of how good a song is is how it comes across when it's just the singer and a guitar. If you can make it work in a solo performance, then it's probably a solid song.

Justin Townes Earle's death was a "Where were you when" moment for me. I walked into my local coffee shop, which always streams KEXP, when the announcer broke the news. In this day and age when we almost always learn of celebrity deaths on our phones, this felt unusually fitting for me.

This was the video that got me into JTE as a teen. I would buy every guitar magazine that he was in, cut out the articles and tape them on my wall. I even bought the same model guitar he plays in this video with the same pickup. Made me feel like I could play like him. His music will always live on.

That line gets me every time... as a long time sufferer of depression, that's where your mind goes... retracing everything that's happened in your life, and even before you were born, to try to work out where things went wrong and why they are the way they are, as if you can find some key to 'solving' it, then you just wonder if it's not about 'solving' anything, but managing it daily, 'learning to live with it'.. edit: OMG I just realised I replied to my own comment from 3 years ago wtf lol

I may be straying from the pack here, but I feel every song that he played that's on the new album was much, much better acoustic rather than with a band. It's so raw up here. These songs were meant to be just him. This video, with very minor accompaniment, should've been the album.
