I met John Dwyer once, it was the craziest thing. I was at Sam Ash, looking for some new strings, and I saw him walk through the doors. I tried to say I was a huge fan, and was looking to ask for maybe a selfie too, but he just ignored me and walked straight to the microphone department and started testing each mic to see which best fit into his mouth. Legend has it, John's SG used to be cherry red but he plays it so intensely-squeezing every bit of beauty and passion out of it. And it is now a hollow shell that is honored to serve the rest of it's days with John.
@amoebas285 жыл бұрын
ive got a funny story actually. I was in the airport for a flight from France to Germany, right about to board the plane when I saw in the line in front of me the legend himself, John Dwyer. I told him I was a big fan and asked for a selfie (he looked at me like he didn't know what i was talking about hahaha) and then y'know continued waiting in line as usual. He started causing abit of a ruckus when he was about to go on though. He brought WAY too many suitcases, all completely full too so they were heavy. The woman there tried her best to handle the situation as John loudly scolded her for "trying to rid him of his pedals" and "belittling his musical greatness". Eventually she just let him pass through (after about 5 minutes) and the line continued as usual. On the plane he pulled out a generator which he connected his amp to and started playing the same riff for the whole flight, putting it through every pedal he had. Pretty cool guy.
@w.jebediah5 жыл бұрын
We always love a good generator powered live show on the plane. One time I was on a train ride from seattle to victoria and john and the boys were packing their gear in. Well the conductor got mad because he wanted John's Music Man 210 HD amp because his father owned one and he believed it was his birthright. Well John simply plugged his gear into his portable phone charger and played the intro to enter sandman twice and then he put his stuff away and left as the conductor peed himself.

@@danopticon True story from the Buenos Aires show. This dude was crowd surfing like a maniac, clearly high on something - uppers, no doubt. He must've jumped on the stage like 15 times. Security tried to get him off, but John Dwyer was like "The fuck you doin'? Let the kid have his fun!" By the end, the dude had gotten so wild that he was kicking and punching us on his way down. People started "returning" the shows off appreciation to let him know that this was unacceptable behavior. Once the dude got up on stage, flailing like a maniac, for the 16th time, I looked into the eyes of the other people at the front. We nodded in unspoken agreement. The guy leaped off the stage as we all opened up like ants responding to fire. He kersplatted in the center of the empty space like a cartoon, bending his neck kinda funny. I worried for a second. The crazy, drug-addled sonovabitch just got up and kept going. He didn't try to crowd surf after that. What a fucking show.

I feel like one of the things that makes Dwyer and Co's music so great is that it gives their fans, who I've found are usually nerdy stoners suffering from self-inflicted isolation like myself, a feeling of intensity that radiates coolness that isn't actually cool by any common standard but only by its unashamed strangeness that wedges itself right in between familiar and unknown. They aren't the only ones that can do that, though its not common. I think it just simply takes not paying any mind to the people who would laugh at you when you express yourself to the fullest, people latch on to that especially when it is an expression that you can relate to either by taste or canon. That shit gives me hope

Met John a few years back at a carwash. Talked to him about the band and all that, really cool guy. Only weird thing is how fucking short he is, man. I'm like 5'8" and I had to crouch down just to talk to him.

Oh, this just dropped a few hours ago!! It’s some kind of a sign: perhaps 2020 will be the year we turn it all back around again? ❤️👍🏼🎸

John Dwyer plays the guitar like he’s an alien trying to operate the guitar as some type of sort of lazer rifle.

Love them! Pushing the boundaries. Reminds me of elements of the legendary British plunderphonic band the Perrinormal, blended with Dutch band Fractured Cat, Can, Pere Ubu and PIL with the approach of Anton Fier's Golden Palominos.

glad to see them branch out into synth stuff more now a day, merging Damaged Bug sounds, which are some of my favorite music sounds ever really.
