I can't speak for other Asian countries but in Korea, thanks to the military that is required for ALL Korean men, they have a pretty good data base for height and weight. According to the military records, 5'8" is the average height of all who have served so far. This is an almost 2 inch increase since 1988 to now. Nutrition and higher protein has definitely helped Koreans reach their height potential.

However, it has been reported that men tend to grow by an average of 0.8 cm during their military service. As a result, their average height becomes approximately 5 ft 9 in by the time they complete their service. Sample surveys tend to report slightly higher average heights compared to full censuses. In fact, South Korea is the only country in the world with a significant population that conducts a full census for such data.

A 2015 systematic review of 15,521 men found "no indications of differences in racial variability," concluding that there was insufficient evidence to draw conclusions about size and race and that further research was needed. According to urologist Aaron Spitz, many sources claiming variation in size between races use unscientific methods and often ignore contradictory evidence, concluding that "when you really take a good look at the data, there's not a whole lot there [showing racial variation]."

조선말기 한국 방문했던 영국 부인의 책에서도 한국인 남성 평균 키는 영국인과 비슷하다고 쓰여 있음. 그냥 인종 처이가 아니라 북방계 남방계 차이임. 동양인 하면 일본인 남부 중국인이 제일 많이 알려져서 동양인은 작다라는 편견이 생김. 걍 북쪽으로 갈 수록 커짐.

The more recent generations of Koreans have been getting taller and taller. I think much like western diets, Koreans on average, consume greater quantities of red meat and dairy products compared to other East Asian countries, thus contributing to them growing taller. When you factor in genetics, taller Koreans will then have children who are taller Koreans and so on and so forth. I think it also has something to do with their genetic closeness to Mongols and Northern Chinese who also happen to be quite tall. They share genetic ancestry.

No, you're completely wrong about the genetics. Koreans do not share genes with them. in fact, Korean genes are much closer to those of the Japanese and Manchus. This is a universally proven statement.

South Koreans are generally really taller than Southeast Asians and the Japanese. I've been to Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. The tallest people in average are Koreans, I feel like a midget when I visit South Korea but when I'm in Japan I am just the average height. Koreans are genetically taller than the Japanese. Both S. Korea and Japan have great economies but Koreans are more serious with their daily calorie intake and having a toned body and they eat more than the Japanese. People in there appreciate fit bodies and women there appreciate manly men with toned muscles whereas in Japan, women like thin men more than men who workout. Japanese women also like men who look cute so you can see men who are effeminate, men there shave their eyebrows to look thin. I think men in Japan really eat less and along with genetics, they are shorter than Koreans.

그건 아니고요 한국전쟁 자료 화면 중에 북한군 포로들 나오는데 인솔하는 미군들과 비교해서 덩치나 키 차이가 별로 안납니다. 김일성과 일당들이 소련측 인사들과 만나는 자료화면도 보면 북한인들이 얼굴 머리는 좀더 커보여도 체격 차이는 의외로 별로 안납니다. 태평양전쟁 자료사진 화면들에서 일본군과 미군들 키 차이가 확연한것과 매우 비교가 됩니다.

I’m 190 and I’ve lived in Japan for years… everything is made for small people. But when I go to Korea I don’t even feel like I’m tall, so much difference. And the guy explaining the reason at the end might be right about it. Japanese usually eat very little quantities of food.

Japan shares genes with Southeast Asia which is relatively short, The nation also had a national meat ban for the last 1200 years until the 20th century, and continues to consume fewer calories today, so it's no wonder they're shorter. South Koreans, on the other hand, have northern genes and are serious meat eaters.

Northern Chinese are similar in height, even slightly taller than Koreans btw. You can search this up as there's been studies done on this. Also, if you go there in person, you'll notice that people there are TALL. I've been to all 3 East-Asian countries and you can notice the height differences immediately. Southern China however is shorter which is why most Chinese immigrants in the west are short. Most of them immigrated from Southern China (Hongkong etc). I assume Northern Chinese and Koreans are taller because they're probably genetically more similar. I'd argue that Northern Chinese look more similar to Koreans than to Southern Chinese. They have paler skin, monolids, smaller eyes, broader/angular facial structure and taller. Southern Chinese on average are shorter, slightly darker skin, bigger eyes, and softer/rounder features like SouthEast asians. My main point is China has 1.4billion people and is only just starting to rise economically. There's so many different ethnicities and so many people still live in poverty so it's not really accurate to compare the average height of China as a whole against a smaller homogenous 1st world country like Korea.

The reason why they're tall isn't solely due to nutrition. The Korean war definitely wouldve impacted height since food shortage wouldve been widespread. But historically, Koreans and Northern Chinese (Southern Chinese are shorter) have been known as the tallest people in East and SouthEast Asia. They're also genetically more similar to each other compared to other asians. The common traits are pale skin, taller, monolids, smaller eyes and broader faces. The reason I say this is because look at Japan. Although their economy is crashing atm, they're still a first world country that has been developed longer than both China and Korea but statistically, their heights are significantly shorter. If you've ever been to those countries, you'll see that the height difference is super noticeable.

South africa is an ethical diverse country, many different races and the average height for men are 190cm and women 170cm. But we have people much taller than that. My family is south african of Indian origin and brother is over 2m and my sister is 1.84m. Our schools have strict P.E programs cause we produce some of the worlds best rugby, cricket and netball players and we eat alot of fresh fruits and vegetables has well has spicy food all of which contribute to growth

It’s true, it’s cuz East Asia is richer than South East Asia. Esp Korea due to their dishes containing a lot of pork and meat. Japan, on the other hand, contains more vegetables and noodles. We South East Asians are way smaller due to being poorer. But we do pack a lot of peppers in our food 💪🏻☺️ Edit: genes does play a role too. But I’m saying that nutrition is also a big factor. My parents were poor and very short. But when they came to the US, me and my siblings exceeded their height by a lot, just bc we grew up in a country where nutritious food and opportunities were greater. Its true Koreans are comparibly taller than SE Asian on average. Economic growth can access a lot more nutritious food, and I look upon how Koreans are very creative to cook vegetables and seafood (kimchi, bibimbap, kimbab, jjampong, jjigae, etc) and they usually serve bancan (usually seasoned vegetables) onto their plate. But I believe it boils down to genetics, because Dutch people are towers but they don't really eat vegetables or seafood that much 😂

That's probably because you're subconciously using selective attention. If you're a true 178, you will be above average on the bellcurve meaning more than half the men you meet will be shorter. You're probably just noticing every tall person on the street compared to noticing every short person since they stand out more. WIth that said, I'm sure lots of men use insoles and I know platform shoes are super big in Korea and asia in general. I remember in Japan this guy was taller than me but when he took his shoes off, he literally shrunk 10cm lol. I didin't notice at first since he was wearing a long cloak down to his feet.

I think being a taller is not connected to the economical status of a person. Its about genetic. The DNA or the information that we carried out thousands of years ago is continued to exist until now. So basically, if your ancestor is taller, it is a high that probability that you will become taller, and of your ancestors is shorter, the probability of being a short is also high but it depends sometimes if your race is mix like Korean-American, African-Korean, Japanese-Chinese, Filipino-American, etc. and these races are the example of the 50/50 of the probability that you will become a taller or shorter

Race is about genes, not based on the continent you live in. It's just a feeling of inferiority that Southeast Asians don't get noticed. In fact, in addition to Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese, there are so many cultural and ethnic characteristics in Asia that they cannot be classified as one, such as Indians, Arabs, Malays, Persians, and Yupik.

@@loopersophia it’s not like I don’t know that but basically I’m going against the hate and dispora that East Asian and Southeast Asian are dealing with. I’m Filipino and black so trust me not only do I have to deal with the issues of being black but being mixed race with the “less desirable Asians” which is what they call the people of Philippines… I’m just stating in the video he made a mistake why try and make a big deal out of it. I works in japan restaurant with international customer. I've seen people from all over asia and koreans, both men and women, and children are generally huge and they have huge appetite as well.

What does that have to do with Koreans though? Koreans got taller because before, poverty caused lack of nutrition. We used to be an underdeveloped country. We were very poor and struggled through historical invasions and after the korean war, south korea economy was severely impacted. The North had more natural resources as well. Now, North Koreans are very short compared to South Koreans due to their poverty and lack of nutrition.

Yes. Aware of that. If South Koreans are eating more wheat products due to Western influences it's possible it may play an even small role in height increase. Curiously has there been noticeable increases in females heights?@@toofsterr

They're talking about asia. Ethnically most asians are shorter. Europeans on the other hand are no doubt taller.
