KEY 01 - Investing in Women's Health: Driving Global Development

Join us for a transformative keynote commemorating the significance of women's health within the scope of global sustainable development. 2024 marks the 30th anniversary of the Cairo International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD). In 1994, 179 nations endorsed a programme of action prioritizing reproductive rights, women's empowerment, and the reduction of inequalities. Now, three decades later, the gains achieved are at a critical juncture driven by rapid technological advancements and demographic shifts, while equity gaps in health remain vast.
This session aims to spotlight the crucial role of women's health in the global health agenda and for gender equity, highlighting the continued imperative of realizing the Cairo agenda.
The session will feature the inauguration of the WomenX Collective Berlin Hub, setting up the stage for advancing innovation, research, and investments in women’s health.
While we celebrate the gains made in the last 30 years, the anniversary also offers an opportunity to shed a light on those left behind, including women suffering from conditions neglected by the international community. Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) is one such condition. Addressing health needs of all women and girls requires investments in women-centered health services, research and cross-sectoral collaboration. Drawing on the expertise and experience of our speakers, this session will include the announcement of a new initiative to end the neglect and take action on FGS.
