Sadly Christie does do it all across the park but nothing he does is outstanding. To be an AB you need to be outstanding at least at something. He creates no doubt in the oppositions mind. Great players create doubt, that pause to consider is the moment in which test matches are won or lost. Think, if you were the opposition and could select the ABs half back you would select Christie every time because you would know what was coming and could prepare for it. Great teams create doubt in the oppositions mind in every position.

as a Hurricanes fan, I can't stand him but since he has gone to the Blues he has been a solid halfback. Not amazing but pretty solid all-round game albeit behind a solid pack. There is no way he should have been picked ahead of Weber but I dunno, selectors seem to hate Weber.

TJP shouldn't be near the conversation. You could raise a child to adulthood with how long he takes to clear a ruck, and his pass is slow and often inaccurate. He has other qualities, but the primary job of a halfback is the clear the ball from the ruck and get the ball to your first receiver accurately and quickly. He isn't that guy.

JK is right select ABs from any team in super rugby, this includes Japan and maybe in the future the USA. Why is he right. It was something that Foster, (he who I am not fan of) said. He said that the danger of selecting ABs from overseas is that they will be lost to regular competition and so water down the standard of regular play. In JKs model they are not lost just not being paid by NRU. In fact thought about that way we can have more ABs on better pay all the time. The would of course have to be strong caveats around player eligibility. This to me is a win win.

There's very little I agree with the NZRU over but our eligibility rules are something I definitely agree with, if we started picking players in France we'll be picking all of them from there, Super Rugby and professional Rugby in NZ would die overnight, I'm not staying up until 3am to watch Ruben Love play a club game in Toulon, we'll be robbed of live sport, and the pathways to professional Rugby will shrivel up with only a few standout high school players getting contracts and within a decade we'd be lucky to beat Georgia.

Then we need to figure out how to pay players comparable salaries. I don't disagree with your statement in full, but as long as we pay peanuts, we will lose top talent - and more importantly - top potential, overseas where they can earn their worth.
@RubyDoobieScoo
@RubyDoobieScoo Ай бұрын
@@goonbosstv5349 As it stands the incentive for staying is national selection. Another thing people don't realise is that after things like the retirement fund are factored in there isn't much of a difference, the difference is their yearly salary but they don't end up better or worse off. The only way to increase salaries is to increase the viewership by attracting overseas audiences, there's nothing internally they can do, we don't have a bunch of french billionaires trying to launder money.

You only have to look at the WALLABIES and what the GITEAU Law did for them. They would select their players who left for overseas, and turn their backs on the ones who stayed loyal to Australia only to watch these European/Japanese bound players come back and take the spot they worked hard for, so what happened, they've all flocked to the NRL and not only that, but the WALLABIES had almost 80% of their Jnr WALLABIES the past 6 years have al signed NRL deals in both NRL development, Jnr Comps and NRL. With the NRL eyeing to have a second NZ NRL team, NZRU opening to the idea of overseas players will give way to the second NZ NRL team based in WELLINGTON. The SPRINGBOKS sacrificed a winning percentage as they went into the 2013 RWC with a 50% winning record not winning any trophies. This is where NZ will end up. The NRL are already raiding out Schools Rugby talents which includes our females as well as the NRL plan to expand the NRLW.

Over the course of six titles Razor never played it safe and relied on fielding players returning as first picks. He kept backing his feeder system at the Crusaders and blooded new talent. He has way more credit up his sleeve with the NZ public in terms of losing in the early part of the RWC cycle than Foster ever had. He’ll pick the players that fit the game plan he has to play against the Northern Hemisphere in tests, regardless of reputation,past experience or contract status. This idea of picking the best player in their position doesn’t automatically make a coherent team, hence the debacle the Blues have been for ten years. He’ll have a gameplan and it will produce new greats, not rely on old ones.

We as South Africans are very fortunate with the larger population and ailing governance. We have just far too many very good players that all our professional teams can't cater to. Very lucky that they can go overseas and earn penny and still play for the Boks. NZ just aren't as fortunate, but definitely something has to give. As Ardie says, change is the law, and he's completely correct, but I fully understand the other side of the argument. But ultimately, the kiwi audience will wane if their best players aren't in Super Rugby.

Spot on. As much as I hate to agree with JK, he's right, if you start picking players from overseas there will be no incentive for players to stay and work their asses off for the Black jersey when they can just put in the same work overseas for 2 or 3 times the money. The ABs wont be as strong imho, if the coaches and union have no control over their players. You won't have players being rested for ABs from northern clubs for a start.

Are we really using SA as an example in the debate for overseas eligibility , are you joking me right now. They struggled immensely in the RWC, and the RC. Sure they managed to pull off the win at the RWC, but lets be real here, they won because of a red card and poor decision making from abs captaincy. They on paper should have lost that game. They hardly looked convincing, and could barely score tries against quality opposition. And Foster in all his wisdom chose to rest roigard for the final. Using them as an example is a joke, ABs were the better team and have been for a 2yrs, IMO - we're about to see a massive decline in SA rugby. These decisions take 10-20 years to see results. They're still coasting at this stage. There local comp is struggling just like NPC, we should hold on to our values a little longer before chasing after other nations glory. Imo the only reason we have our success is because of such a fierce competition at home, it's upto SR an RNZ to continue maintaining that fierce competition, and I think the next logical step is Japan and Argentina and somehow getting at least 1 SA team back into the comp.

Can we celebrate and have awards for players with GB heritage?

Ex all blacks should be allowed to come back after a couple years service. Its not ardies fault hes been this good for so long. Why cant he get paid and be available for the all blacks - which is win win as far as i can see for player and fans? Is this a professional game or not? Sick of these selfish old dummies and their corporate double standard nonsense.

JK has a big picture view of things. Not necessarily correct but we need to be more open minded to new ideas. (Oh that’s right it is just what Razor said, we need to be more open minded.)

International eligibility is an All Black must...Razor is fully in support of it.."keep an open mind" is his discrete and diplomatic way of not upsetting the NZ purests.

You guys are in the dark ages, come out of the archaic mindset. You must select international players, it's a professional, global game, you can't change that reality, NZ must adapt - you're to caught up in the past, projecting your myopic views of the past...be a NZlnd laggard at your own peril! Soccer/football thrives off the international player system representing clubs across the world, outside of their home nations or teams.
