Key Will Not Go Into Ignition | Early 2000's GM Saturn Buick Pontiac Chevrolet

If you are having trouble getting your key into an early 2000's GM vehicle, it is likely your ignition cylinder. It seems that this effect many GM makes, Pontiac, Buick, Saturn, Chevy, etc.
It seems the tumblers get out of line and block the key hole. Ude the nail file to gently pressing to align the tumblers and turn the ignition to the "OFF" or Locked position. You should be able to get your key in after.
Just be very careful when taking the key out until you can get a replacement part.

I tried other recommendations first before doing this. Thank you. You just saved me a trip to auto engineer. I used a small pocket knife and lubricant. I will keep this and my AAA card handy in my car, just in case it happens again.

(The key could not be inserted into the lock cylinder.) I was able to replace the lock cylinder. I thought I was going to have to drill out the old cylinder because removing it required truing the key to Start. -- First, I removed the plastic winged end piece from the cylinder. Then, I forcibly turned the cylinder to Start with a pair of channel lock pliers. Then I could insert a pin in the hole on top of the cylinder and pull it out.

Did the problem resolve once you got the key in or did you eventually replace the ignition?

Resolved. I am just Verrry aware when turning the key all the way to the "Off" position before removing the key. Still carry a file with me now though.

Oh! That awesome though, gotta love "KZbin University" lol. Glad you found my vid. My vehicle was in my garage. My first thought was, "how the hell am I gonna get it outta here to get a tow?!" haha. Now I always make sure to pull the key out in a deliberate, careful way.
