I just wanted to add that shift+space and cntrl+space have been clutch keybinds for my experience - they're always underneath pinky+thumb. Intuitively for me, this works well for highly reactive "oh f***" abilities with no target requirements - sprint, slow fall, CC break, shadowmeld, large defense CD, etc. Also these are the biggest buttons on a KB... it may get the "noisiest keybind award" but I

Dude still so good to see players teaching newbies about this concept. I learned to keybind like this back in vanilla BC and never looked back. Use this concept in every 3D MMO now.
@trlns592 жыл бұрын
The No.1 tip I can give is when changing from clicking to keybinds is to level a new character of the class you play. It naturally restricts the number of abilities available and therefore the keybinds required. It’s also a low stress environment in that you’re basically just questing. A couple of weeks of this and you can go back to your main with new muscle memory and high confidence!

Likely the best video on key-binding. I watched it at the beginning, then on my Alt now turned Main, I've reviewed it again. This video has great visual diagrams, illustrations, vocal tone and articulation. But most importantly it helps one know how to think about their bindings, not merely the mechanics (let's face it Bartender makes that process painless). Worth a revisit at every Alt or when looking for a more efficient key-binding iteration.
@icedoc094 жыл бұрын
I commented before, but this video is totally worthy of a reference video. I keep returning to it when the pre-patch came out and when in the previous patch, I was trying new builds or even picking up better on-use trinkets. But I referenced this link as an answer to a Reddit question (hopefully more hits and subs). Can't say enough about this well done video. If any improvement needs to be done it might be to add a time link index in the comments, but even without, it's worth a re-visit with each patch that comes out. Again, great job, Muhshuh!

First time I am bookmarking a WoW video. Kudos on a remarkably useful video. Been playing since 2006 but I'm very casual, I stopped being a clicker on S1 arena when friends expected me to not suck at PvP (they were sorely disappointed of me, my shadow priest, and my habit of playing while drinking), and up until a couple years ago I kept keybinding 1 to = and F1 to F12. In Legion I started toying with Shift+ all keys close to my left hand, but now I am taking the plunge and unbinding most of the defaults as you advise and binding everything close to my hand. It's probably going to be a slow week (and a few deaths) while I get used to this.

I'm stingy with my subs on KZbin. When it comes to gaming content, I usually stick to the bigger names simply for the higher probability of getting reputable information (and of course access to their comments section where people call them out if they get it wrong). As a small time streamer myself, I realize I'm a crappy person for this mentality 😂😂 I say all that to say this. I never subscribed so fast in my life. Your keybinds and their applications are almost identical to my own. I've retyped my layout along with explanations and suggestions for spell placement SOOO many times over the years to offer people some advice, it's so nice to find a resource I can just direct someone to. Great video, keep up the great content.

With direction-sensitive instant casts, like blink, cone of cold, etc., the right mouse button is a silent modifier as it's held for aiming unless you keyturn. Depending on your mouse, using your thumb for stabilization during right-button aiming and then transitioning to button press may compromise aim, a lot. It's more reliable to split the work between hands - one aims, the other pulls trigger without risk of bumping the other. If you play with an MMO or tall mouse and use your palm for stabilization more than your finger tips, this may not be an issue. I think fingertip grippers like me will find it much easier to simplify the right thumb's job: stabilize or click, but not both at the same time when it can be avoided. Forcing it to multitask during fine movement + holding right click will cause more goofs and camera jolts.

Q is blink E is frostnova R cone of cold - wow so ez i click i all for a cool combo... Blink on q is legit the best thing
@jonathanbraithwaite70634 жыл бұрын
@Max The pain point for Q is left strafing. For me Q is health stuff (first aid, healthstone, etc., not the best) and so sometimes while strafing left, it's up to my left pinky to reach using perfect touch typing technique to save my life. imo, that's too dangerous and awkward. Blink can also save or kill you and is sometimes a panic button, so it's placement is pretty serious. For a fundamental movement spell with short CD (blink), I tried to keep it away from movement keys, something not pressed by left ring, middle, and pointer fingers for minimum conflict... This is how I decided on shift+space for blink. I know it's weird but I like it, it feels very very stable. The E key does not have the same problem because of standard keyboard staggering - your middle finger can reach E while strafing right. It doesn't mean you should change anything, just something to think about. Side note, this quirk is partly why I'm shopping for an ortholinear keyboard suitable for gaming, maybe an Ergodox is in my future.... I'm leveling frost and putting blizzard on E feels good to me. Classic frost mage is the first class I've played where channeled AoE is standard rotation.

LoL... 9:14 - After unbinding everything just like you showed in the video up to this point, I realized that I should have unchecked the "Character Specific Key bindings" before I did all that. I guess I should have payed more attention to the video instead of just your instructions. I just didn't notice it was there. This is a great video for a noob like me. Thank you for taking the time to show us exactly how to rebind our keys. I've been playing wow for years, but very spotty. I'd play for a month or two, then leave after realizing that I suck at the fundamentals. I would take some time to try to figure out how to optimize my game play (i.e. ability rotation, situational abilities, etc). However, I got really frustrated because I still wasn't playing on par with heroic raiders, mythic dungeon runners, or decent PvP players. Sure I could do the causal content, but I loved the thrill of raiding or playing PvP with my friends. When I finally realized that I have to learn how to do key bindings, I would usually look around for some guides. The problem was that I only found content that shows smart people how to think about key bindings like the professionals (cdew was one of the guides I found). I would try to work on figuring it out for a couple days or even a week. At this point I would have a worse setup than I started because I just wasn't getting it. TL:DR: I just wanted you to know how much this video has helped me because you took the time to show each step of your key binding process. THANK YOU!!!!

The logic behind this video applies to other applications too. I always rebind shortcuts for other applications I work in, be it Photoshop or anything else. Also I use side buttons on my mouse (its 7 button mouse) for Delete, Enter and Backspace. This way I have right hand on my mouse and left hand on WASD area and don`t need to raise any of my hands for pressing these 3 buttons (and they are pressed too often), unless I type something.

One tip I have used to consolidate the movement keys is to use shift varients for back peddling and rotating. For instance, I use 'S' for strafe left, and 'shift-S' rotates me counter clockwise. 'D' is forward, but 'shift-D' is backward. 'F' strafe right, and 'shift-F' rotates me clockwise. This gives you an extra three keys and still able to easily use all the movement keys.

I also found that alt with mouse scroll is very easy to get used to as well, so that opens up new possibilities. I also put alt+Q as my drink/eat, it's a lot easier to use than you'd think.

I've been using shift mouse wheel up and down since WotLK and people thought it was a crazy set up, and I use the S key, I removed backpeddle, Shift+S also is great. So is Shift+W, Shift A and D also, they're on your movement keys, but I always use them for quick abilities or just function abilities. This guide is great for new comers, definitely :)

Отличный гайд! Хоть нечего и не понимаю на слуху, но наглядно все предельно понятно! Спасибо!

This helped a TON, especially the colored keyboard layout! I just completely redesigned my keybindings. I had proper keybindings before but not with such a "purpose" like now. It will get a while to get used to. Especially not pressing S the whole time to backpaddle, what a habit...haha

Easier method to unbind all keys after 5 from action bars: - bind each key after 5 with 6 (one by one), then when only 1 single bind of 6 remains, unbind that. Found this to be way faster than clicking unbind for each one.

Why do you need to unbind them? Just bind them to another key
@cristophor4 жыл бұрын
@@Gybsass you don't need to, this is just a faster way for the ones that want to unbind. The ones that want to bind them on another key can do that too.

just bind ALT and CTRL to mouse button 4 and 5 for even more easy modifiers

Aaaaaannnndddd I'll just keep on buying expensive MMO mice. 😂 It's an amazing video btw, and it probably shows the most ideal way to set up keys and spells with a regular "two side button mouse". I was just hoping that it would somehow be even simpler hehe. Like you said, "the best keybinds are on the mouse", and when you have used a 12 button MMO mouse it is extremely hard to go back to a 2 button mouse. 🙂

Here's another pro-tip. If your mouse allows it, you can program one of your mouse buttons to become the shift key which makes it so much easier to press than using your pinky.

4 buttons. Ctrl, Shift, Alt, push-to-talk. Gives you many key binds to use with QERFZXC12345. 48 key binds total.

I don't know if people already do this, but I press Alt with my thumb and that makes keybinds like Alt+Q really comfortable
@richskater4 жыл бұрын
Same, was kind of bamboozled when he said use shift, not alt. I'm the opposite, alt is comfortable and shift feels weird, though ctrl is even worse.

GREAT guide! One little addition. Also you think about spell sequencing. For example, shatter mage combo : frost nova ---> frostbolt ---> ice lance (or Cone of cold) cant keybind far from each other

Best keybinding tutorial by a long way.

For some people (like me), even "W" (move forward) not needed, bcs i can use mb1+mb2 =) Btw for some clases (like mage, i mean mages who farm solo instances) very iportant to use "S" (as backward) (bcs when mage use S+Space+cone of cold / nova, this spells will be casted a bit farther with jump =) Any way, nice vod for new players, i will recommend it for them. Best wishes!

some people, just like me, have 5 fingers on each hand and all fingers work so I can actually press "2" with a secondary finger. Maybe it's just me that's still in 1880 but my keys don't have fingerprint scanners.
