Overdesigned in places that don't matter, like fea analysis on PCB, injection molded foam, useless expensive screw driver. I feel like the designer doesn't know anything about pcb design and hired someone to do a bunch of random stuff for a lot of money because hey, sounds cool. Then it's underdesigned in places that matter like overall design and aesthetics. Looks hella ugly and basic. I'd rather something inspired by a tgr jane, a duck kustom or something with a unique layout or artistic flair to it. This is just a poorly managed $100-150 keyboard project.

Personally for a thousand dollars the visible gap between Keycaps and top case would bug we way too much. And I have to admit that the thought of internal weights didn't leave my mind even after hearing the sound.

Dang Scott I just love your videos! While I have a gaming PC and used a PC (Windows/Linux) from about 97 until 2020, once the M processors came out my preference is Mac once again but simply loved the intro! Apple makes some fantastic products that are worth the price but also makes some crazy products as well. Of course most people would think all of us were crazy for buying a full set of GMK Keycaps with modifiers and artisans not to mention how much some of these custom boards cost. If we can't laugh at our biases, desires and oddities though life would be pretty depressing! That Type-1 is phenomenal but I couldn't afford it even if I won the raffle... hey for the same price you could buy a nice MacBook Air on sale instead, see they aren't all super expensive ;)

all the people who bought a TGR or Singa board aftermarket are looking at this like it’s quite the bargain! definitely feels like a passion project, crazy levels of overengineering, presumably was very very expensive to fund and prototype! I’m not sure there’d be 350 takers for this especially at the $1K price point, but I’m pulling for the designer regardless.

It's ridiculous to look at everything that's been done at or around $600 in this hobby. You have to work hard to get folks to consider coming out of anything above that. We have some crazy designers out here, and not just in terms of aesthetics. We've had the Nazare, Aaru, Jelly Epoch, Matrix + Angry Miao boards, and recently the Heracles and Haven TKLs, among others. There just has to be more for that price.

A steel plate or even stainless steel would be an awesome thing to see them doing. I dont't think the hobby has a lot of good reputation for steel plates, at least recently. To see them doing even a stain less steel plate and make it have flex would make this keyboard even more special. Great video scout! I hope to see you review those roller switches that you used here and in the Neo80 video.

At that level of "quality" and packaging it really should have at least a L 1.25u key split spacebar. A little silly that keyboards are still using such an inferior spacebar design when split spacebars are so easy to do with another feature to throw on the checkbox list

if Apple made this it wouldn't be hotswap, it would be soldered in a way that requires a special tool that you cant buy, and the pcb would self destruct if you attempt it without out the tool. The charging port would be on the bottom of the board bc fu. The Keycaps would have non standard mounting, and a replacement set would be 600$ The switches would fail at every 10th press, but it's because you're using it wrong, and its a feature, not a bug. It would force a firmware update on you every so often that removes features you bought it for in the first place. If Apple decides you had your board long enough, it will deliberately add latency to key presses, until you're so annoyed that you shell out another 1000 for the newer model. The production cost would be 10$ but theyd still sell it at a 1000.

Apple will either use alps or using wooting analog. It will be aluminum finish but plastic bottom and they won't care if it sounds good. Also it won't be like other mechanical keyboard that can be modified because they practice planned obsolence. Apple consumers will buy it because it syncs with there apple devices seemlessly tracking each of them. It's Ecosystem.

I appreciate the effort that it took to design and manufacture this keyboard, but it's not for me. The price is not the issue, it's just a boring design to me. This keyboard seems made for the neutral minimalist types, but to me it lacks character. Glad for people who wants to buy this board, at least they have 1 less person competing for it in the raffle.

tbh i dont like the design that much (half mac guy) like its on the one side minimalist with the aluminum and general shape but also totally not bc of the grooves on the sides and the ridiculously large feet that u can see from the front. as a MacBook guy and design student this is just overdone in my opinion. think without that it would look a lot better. also feel like a lot of the angles of the curved edges don't feel right. would love to see a keyboard that is more Apple-like than this. price feels justified, however. like the machining alone on all these parts is absolutely insane. the screws man. so if u like the design and want the best build quality its cool i guess

I've had TWO apple keyboards die on me, they weren't serviceable at all, and the insides were shitty plastic sheets. We HAVE apple's take on a keyboard and they are mostly ass, lol This looks like someone cared to make it worth the money beyond the "brand recognition". I wouldn't use it, I had to settle on a razer huntsman with optic switches bc ISO-es, but idk, I don't think my take is that extreme lol. Great video tho, good job highlighting all the little details.
