It's time to do the Keychron K8 foam mod. Yes I've had my Keychron K8 keyboard for a while now and I thought I have a go at trying to quieten the key sound a little.
This mod cost me less than £10 and was actually easy than I thought so I put this video together to show you how you can turn down the volume on your Keychron K8 keyboard a little with this simple foam mod.
The Keychron K8 Wireless Mechanical Keyboard is available from

Good descriptive video & easy to follow, thanks. I did this mod but changed it slightly. I didn't use the neoprene, so I used the thicker foam that came with the K8. I also used duct tape (gaffer tape @£3.90) which I stuck to the underside of the PCB (I'd seen this method on another channel). This mod has worked really well & gives a nice, satisfying, quiet key press. My partner thinks i'm pretty sad getting excited by this but she just doesn't get it 🤣😂

I just did a very similar mod and while there is a slight improvement, it doesn't sound amazing. The new K8 pro comes with a solid silicone buffer and sounds much improved though!

Yes they've tried hard with the sound on the K8 Pro, but I've seen some bad reviews already. I keep tweaking my K8, recently added some o rings and that's helped just a little more

WARNING: the screws are actually 12, not 11. Be careful because if you follow the diagram and you don't remove all the keycaps (you don't have to to open the keyboard) you are going to miss one more screw and you might damage the board or the plastic. Be careful.

Thanks, the one from the keyboard box is about 5mm thick and the neoprene sheet is 3mm 👍

Hi, I have tried making this mod but I had one problem, while removing the metal pieces in the side to slide out the pcb etc one of them didn’t slide of, it’s on there like stone, I tried pushing it against something at it just made a hole in the table I pushed it on, what am I supposed to do??

Hey is the neoprene sheet a must? I'd like to just use the foam that came with the keyboard due to my laziness and lack of patience lol
@Byteofgeek
@Byteofgeek 2 жыл бұрын
If you don't want to use the neoprene then I'd suggest the thicker of the two foams in the box if you still have it just to deaden the sound a bit better 👍

 @Byte of Geek right so there is some difference between before and after but its not night and day which is expected. in terms of yours vs mine theres obviously factors like the surface the keyboard is on, hearing it through a mic and speakers vs in person, how hard it is being typed etc etc, mine has a bit more resonance but im happy either way haha

Is the pcb risky to remove. There is no screw at the side unlike the aluminum one

It looks like it is a little short on the side but the base of the keyboard slopes inwards a little. That's my excuse anyway 😉

Ah no that sucks, there's always a risk in doing these kind of things I just wishes manufacturers would make them better in the first place and then people wouldn't have to risk doing this kind of thing
