did the tape on the pcb do anything? AFAIK ppl stop modding the bottom out sound of stabs with tape already right. Does it reduce reverb or?
@swampwcat3 жыл бұрын
I don’t have any idea. My reverb still sounds too loud. But I think it can reduce some frictional forces on PCB.

Hi! Im expecting my NJ80 in a few weeks, this will be my first time building a keyboard so I am really excited (and scared). Im so glad i found your videos, these will be my bible in this journey. If I may I have a few questions that could help me prepare better. 1. Would you recommend getting the O-ring for the stab switches? If so may I know the specs of the O-rings. 2. I found EVA foam (2mm) near my local stationary store, would that work well with the stock Poron case foam for sound dampening? If not, do you have a recommendation for which combination of foam works best, along with the thickness. 3. I haven’t gotten a PCB foam, from your experience with this keyboard do you think it’s worth it? 4. Out of all the mods there is could you list down the ones that are, in your opinion, a must do. Like I said this will be my first keyboard building experience and I have been watching tons of videos/mods and Im at that stage where I feel like I need to do all the mods to get the best sound but Im worried that it will do more bad than good.. For your info here are the things that I will build my NJ80 with: -Keydous NJ80 (Brass plate) -Gateron Yellow Pro switches -Genuine Cherry Stabs -Deskey Switch films with stab pads -Akko 9009 PBT keycaps Thank you so much in advance, this is probably the longest comment you’ve ever had to read and I am so sorry🙏🏻
@swampwcat2 жыл бұрын
Sorry for being late reply. Yes this’s the longest comment that I’ve ever gotten but don’t need to feel sorry for that. I’m always enjoy interacting with you guys. :D In reply to your question: 1. I don’t recommend getting the O-ring for stabs, actually I’ve already remove all of them. It’s quite an easy and fast way to reduce the typing sound but it also makes your stab switches sound mushy. Most of all, I don’t like the feeling when I type on O-rings. It made me mis-touch the spacebar a lot. I just bought those ring for fun (and experiment). If you have enough time, I’ll recommend you to try Holee mod. There’re plenty of guides on KZbin. Hamaji Neo’s video explained perfect. Here’s the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6fLoXugodCFnbM BTW, those rings I got are 8 x 5 x 1.5mm. :) 2. I think your EVA foam must sound dampening than the stock one, because your foam are more thickness. As I’ve done in the video, it was hard to put all the foam inside the case. So I cut the stock foam into pieces, but it wasn’t necessary. I saw someone else on KZbin just remove the stock foam and still having good sound of board. So it’s up to you. If you want you can sandwich all the foam. Like my oversized sandwich board just if you could close the case well. Haha. :D 3. I do recommend PCB foam, if you couldn’t buy one. You can try to make one by self. 0.5-1mm of foam would fit better. Here’s the video that how I make PCB foam mod: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJq3aXini62Fatk But I got the wrong foam material, I’m still looking for some other better option. And the foam mod explained by nearLucid’s video is very worth watching. Here’s the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jp-0fouMmM2hqLc In my opinion, NJ80 sounds a bit too reverb for me. That’s the reason why I do recommend PCB foam mod. 4. Final, the MUST do mod is TEMPEST TAPE MOD. It really looks nothing but after you try it you will know the difference! Sorry for that I didn’t done the tape mod when I was shooting this video. But after I did it turns out really really really GOOD. Here’s the video by Tempest’s Boards: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aoWbgKltac5no5I and the explains by nearLucid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWiQpKylrcp8eLM You must give it a try! And good to know that you picked up the brass plate, that’s what I’ve been regretting for long time. Mine is steel. :( Can’t wait to see how it turns out after your build. :D Feel free to let me know if I can be of any help. And share your keyboard with me if you want. Enjoy your time with your board. :)

which one would you choose? this or gmmk pro?
@swampwcat3 жыл бұрын
It depends on the budget, NJ80 has good pre-build quality, stable bluetooth connection that also comes with brass plate. Though the casing was only made by plastic but you can still feel solid. If I have more budget I'd like to choose GMMK pro (because of the separate arrow keys) but now I'm satisfied with my NJ80.

Nice video. I've ordered a barebones version on Drop a couple of days ago. By the way, do you know what kind of color is the case of the keyboard? I'm thinking about getting either ePBT Kuro/Shiro or ePBT x GOK BOW, but I don't know if the color of the case is WS1 or WS2 (GMK color codes for keycaps).
@swampwcat3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Enjoy your keyboard. :) I don’t have any GMK keycaps though, but I think the color of the case is more closer to WS1. It isn’t pure white is more like ivory.

@@swampwcat Thank you for the quick response. I wish I could enjoy my keyboard right now, but it'll arrive only after half a year 😀. I see. Then, I suppose, Kuro/Shiro with its sort of creamy/milky white colour will suit the overall look better than pure white GOK BOW.
