A test and description of the electric keyed tromba marina I am experimentally making. A tromba marina is played by bowing the string while touching the string lightly with the other hand to sound the natural modes of vibration of the string. These modes of vibration approximate the harmonic series, making the instrument sound a bit like a bugle or valveless trumpet. On this instrument, I have replaced the action of the hand that lightly touches the string with a keyboard to do the same job, in the hope of making it easier to play, particularly when playing fast passages or notes that are far apart. A tromba marina usually has a buzzy bridge a bit like the chien/recsego of a hurdy gurdy, but I haven't done that bit yet on this instrument.
