A nice explanation Doc.👍 I ran into something that I hadn’t thought about the other day. I got a Sonar mobile amp with 4 power output tubes. It also has a keying circuit that uses a tube. So when you hook that mobile amp to 12 volts, the big switching transistors start high frequency switching, even when you aren’t keyed. The little switching tube cannot work unless that circuit is producing high voltage for the keying tube. My ears can no longer hear them switching, but my wife put the hammer down on me!🤣 It sure is nice to have modern electronics available.

The early mobile D&A Bandit used a strange circuit that had a tube keying circuit. So the power supply squealed all of the time it was turned on. The other strange thing was that it used the power output tubes as a preamp on the receive state! Has anyone out there ever seen such a beast?

Basic electrical safety rules: if you aren't feeling well don't work on it. It can wait. Electrocution tends to be a permanent thing.

Bravo! Much safer to test the low-voltage stuff with the scary voltages turned off. That little power supply is a swiss-army knife sort of tool.
