Thing about this is Comic Book characters from DC & MARVEL that existed for so long. There's countless of retcons and how a character is written in 1 era won't be the same in another era, due to countless of writers writing them differently. Example: - If you read Batman in the Silver Age, he's a goofy Character who would do the most wackiest things, like fighting a Monster who turned him into Paper, or that time Robin had to baby sit Batman as a Baby. - If you read Batman in the 90s/2000s, he's more to being a Detective trying to find criminals and running into Corruption. - if you read Batman nowadays, you can get a range from Family Adventure, or absolute Mayhem where he's Fighting everyone on sight. I'll also add: what makes making a Story/adaptation of a Character to big screen great, is the fact that because the story hasn't been rehashed, you can read something New if you want more. Or something great can come out of whatever they "adapted" and can potentially supercede the original work! Example: - reading the Original Spider-verse comic from 2014, you can realise that compared to the 2018 version, they gave so much significance to Miles and Gwen, despite the fact that both characters aren't that significant in the original comics. - Had the Movie adapted the Original Story, it'll be more like a Multiversal War with Spider-Man characters, with the biggest characters being Otto Octavius, Peter Parker, Cindy Moon, Miguel O'Hara. In my opinion, what makes adaptations good isn't necessarily because they copied the original series page by page. Rathermore they understood the characters, and their story and used it as a Blueprint to create a new story with the characters we know and love. If it were to be the former, series like: Spectacular Spider-Man, everything DCAU, Teen Titans, etc. would NOT be loved by so many.

With the X-men movies, you are absolutely correct. The characters and stories are used to sell what coukd or should be original ideas/concepts/stories which should be presented as original to see if they stand on their own, without the bait and switch. The Phoenix story has been tried twice- each time it was told as an entirely definite story than the one people would like to see on the big screen. Some say it may take more than one moviemtomsomit Justice… really? Like Lord of the Rings or Star Wars. If it needs more than one movie, what’s the profit problem?😊

@quantumvideoscz20528 ай бұрын
You know what's really funny? Those "illiterate people" don't usually think the X-Men aren't an allegory to current social issues, specifically racism and, to a lesser extent, the hatred against LGBTQ+ people. However, a lot of people disagree on how to read this allegory. If you look at who is presented as correct and the good guy, which usually means who the writer wants you to agree with and who they personally agree with (USUALLY), you'll find out that Magneto's original idea, which was that humans were all evil and it's ok to be prejudiced against them in return, is NEVER condoned by the writers or by the main heroes. In X-Men ´97, Magneto does his best to honour what Xavier wanted: a peaceful solution of mutual coexistence. A lot of people will call the show woke, yet from what we can see when such people post their opinions online, they basically agree with og Magneto. The show is not meant to be a tool of political education or pandering or a medium for spreading a specific ideology, it's artistic and ANALYZES the ideas, poses questions and tries to answer them, makes you THINK about the issues. Something that is sorely missing from a lot of modern entertainment. It's like with Star Trek. Discovery doesn't exactly make you think about an issue when it covers it the way TNG used to when they covered the same topic. But X-Men ´97 DOES make you think, it does present the situation as complex and without a clear simple solution, which distinguishes it from ideological slop. Hell, Magneto's speech in the sky is incredible precisely because it doesn't follow the modern woke ideology. He demands that the humans acknowledge this is a shared world and that mutants have the same right to live in it as they do. Simple as that. He doesn't ask to be seen, he doesn't ask to be loved, he doesn't want a "mutant history month", he demands equal rights and that is it.
@LastBastian8 ай бұрын
Think I agree with you. 97 *could* have easily been a ham fisted one sided woke mess. (Like so many shows these days) But they are doing a good job of demonstrating that you can tackle these topics with a bit of nuance and consideration for more than one ideological perspective. Trek TNG did a great job of this back in the day. Heck, The Orville did a pretty great job of it recently too. I hope 97 continues this trend.

I didn't like Cyclops because the show in the '90s made him to be a beta boy. And the constant "Gene!" calls was annoying. The X-Men 97 made him more three-dimensional and more conflicted with what he believes and should believe. My apologies.

I never got to see any of the X-Men cartoons growing up, nor did I read comics or anything like that, so all of my exposure to the X-Men were from the movies ( 💀💀💀 ), so I never got to truly know Cyclops, I am truly sorry for my bad taste as a child ❤

Cyclops to me was the coolest X Men character, I remember Back in days I would use my headphone as blasters and pretend to be him, It's a shame that our bro is violated in every medium whether it's comics or in Live action.

You are wrong, I AM the president of the Scott Summers fan club thank you very much. I have never once doubted my boy. I dressed up as Cyclops for Halloween when I was 7! I have had people give me questioning looks when I told them my favorite superhero was Cyclops. I am living for the realization of many that Cyclops is the fucking best. (I am also a Superman fan and am living for people watching my Adventures with Superman and also realizing Superman is just the best boy… my wife ships Superman with Cyclops because of me)

Somebody get this in front of the people in charge at Disney/Marvel and WBD/DC ASAP. This guy is spitting cold, hard facts. Who could have possibly imagined that just giving audiences what they're asking for was the key to success and popularity?

I'd say gambit is my fave character here (unless they let deadpool show up) and i'd say they wrote him well. I disagree on logan though. Logan is a caricature here and doesnt get cool solo scenes (coolest one is the one with gambit). Sunspot is another one that doesnt feel like Roberto. I like the layers on Jean, Rogue, Magneto, Cyke, Jubilee and Morph. Beast hasnt evolved and is very one note. Bishop and Storm feels the same. So yeah Xmen 97 is excellent but they didnt get everyone right. Storm is getting a story focus but its the worst side story they have going this season. I'm hoping for a proper Bishop story or perhaps a dark beast turn or Logan turning into headmaster/actually pursuing the romance thread with Jean.

I agree, these two properties are totally being faithful and trying to put minimal twist on them. Thats what makes them popular, the original reasons they were popular to begin with.

The think the reality to me is that it shows how good Marvel can be too when they don’t have to worry about a products connection to the MCU specifically and remembering that just like DC that Marvel is a brand that can just tell any kinda stories it wants without worrying about its connection with other movies or series like Spectacular Spider-Man. I feel like DC has been good at making stuff like that with Joker and The Batman so I’d like Marvel Studios to just realize it doesn’t hurt to do that too cuz not everything they make needs to be MCU based it can just be the Marvel characters in general

The best part of the success of Invincible and X-Men 97 is it's proving fans right. We've been complaining to Hollywood for decades that they need to stop rewriting classic characters and stories from the books they are adapting. Hollywood executives have always claimed that they understand movies better, and a faithful adaptation would never work in TV or movies... And then they release garbage like the Eternals or the Catwoman movie and wonder why they flop. Though honestly, X-Men 97's habit of speed-running through stories is maddening. (The Adversary beaten in two episodes? Really? That took years to tell in the books.) However, it's getting the characters right, which is refreshing to see after years of Fox movies getting it wrong.

Kinda, yeah. I think animation is arguably the best medium for adapting comics - it allows long-term storytelling in a way that live-action can struggle to find the budget or time to manage.

I want to tie in Cyclops to the point of your video more. You can’t blame people who don’t read comics for thinking Cyclops is boring and lame. Because he is boring and lame IN THE MOVIES. Because they didn’t care about him and just made him that guy who beefs with Wolverine, and tells people what to do. The adaptations ruined his reputation. And an adaptation fixed it in like one scene. That’s why they matter.
@KeyIssues8 ай бұрын
You’re right. I’m still going to blame people for not reading the comics tho bc I’m petty
