Actually I couldn't understand the transition from linearity to non-linearity around 9.10 mins. Why do we need non-linearity?

I know it is because we want to avoid equally spaced energy levels. Suppose the system changes energy and emits a photon. With equally spaced levels, we couldn't be able to tell what energy the system was in just by the energy of the emitted photon, since they were all equally spaced. With unequally spaced levels, the energies between transitions will be unique, and hence the energy of photons would tell us exactly what state the system was in. That is just my best guess though, I am new to all this as well!

We need unique individual energy levels to differentiate. It's easier for representation purpose
