The Halo Effect consists of all former members of the pioneers of Melodic Death Metal called In Flames. In case you didn't know.

I would also like to add that the synth effects and the style of this type of MDM are referred to as "Gotenburg" Melodic Death Metal. This style was formed in Gotenburg, Sweden, back in the mid 90's.

It is In Flames effectively. The singer Mikael is also the lead singer of Dark Tranquility (DT) which I have pitched several times before. Try their song Forward Momentum (kzbin.info/www/bejne/qabLpoSijr-qqqc)

I personally love the first In Flames album with Mikael Stanne doing the vocals. It's raw and has terrible production, but that's the charm for me.

There's something absolutely magical about this song where you can just close your eyes and let the guitars take your consciousness away down a river. In Flames never was the same after Jesper left and you can very much appreciate his lack of desire to write big flashy guitar solos. Nothing on this track overstays its welcome and everything fits neatly within its design. This band forming was like a dream come true.

Hey Geebz, I know you haven't been following melodic death metal forever, but I have and all your points about the track are extremely on point. The only thing I can add is that the pioneer of this type of music (Jesper Stromblad) has a magic sense of melody and nuance, and the entire band easily has over 100 years of experience in metal.
@darkalman Жыл бұрын
If you liked that check out In Flames - Clayman

If you have the time, definitely check out "Insomnium - Winter's Gate" it's a continuous 40min concept album in the vein of The Halo Effect (Melodic Death Metal) and a brilliant aural journey 🤘🏻

This band is made up of melodic death metal band members from the OG bands In Flames and the singer of Dark Tranquillity (who was also briefly with In Flames at the very beginning). They are doing the OG melodeath style which In Flames has moved away from in some ways. Nothing amazing or new but just solid melodic death metal by veterans of the sub genre.
@SpaghettiWithMeatSauce Жыл бұрын
Hearing The Halo Effect really makes me understand what In Flames lost. I mean absolutely no disrespect to Bjorn, but he just isn't the riff and solo writer that Jesper was. Bjorn seems to like to stay in this sort of more simple and "safe" pocket.

Mikael Stanne is from Dark Tranquillity, has been since 1989. He also has a band called Grand Cadaver. Well actually In 1994, Anders Fridén, Dark Tranquillity's original vocalist, left the band to join In Flames. In "Skydancer", Dark Tranquillity's debut album, Mikael played guitar and performed clean backing vocals... Stanne was also the original vocalist for HammerFall from 1993 until 1996
