I remember when I first brought home In Absentia on the recommendation of a friend, I guess it was kind of around the time it came out, I guess around '02 or '03, and I played it on the drive home and I LITERALLY sat in the car listening to the entire rest of the album in the parking lot of my apartment complex because I *could not* pull myself away from it until the very last note.

@@PeteOliva Same. I got this in late 2002 off of an Opeth forum. In Absentia completely changed how I listened to music. I remember just being blown away by Blackest Eyes and into Trains. I saw these guys in Buffalo NY some years back and I remember shouting the title of this song during a quiet little moment in between songs. It was a relatively small venue so I knew it stood out when I said(yelled) it, Steve then looked right at me and gave a subtle smirk, and they continued the show. Well approximately 35 minutes or so later the show was seemingly over, but then admist the dim lighting and roaring applause the lights then suddenly illuminated in a very dramatic encore-esque moment and the band broke right in to the song. Probably one of the more sublime live music experiences I ever had ❤️

@@ltlt1219 For Porcupine Tree, check out Stars Die, Lightbulb Sun, Fadeaway, Disappear, Moon Touches your Shoulder, Lazarus. That's a good start there. For Steven Wilson solo works No Part of Me, Deform to Form a Star, Harmony Korine, Veneno para las Hadas, Insurgentes, Raven that Refused to Sing, Routine, Ancestral (If you don't mind heavy), Drive Home, Song of Unborn, , A Door Marked Summer, Refuge and King Ghost. That'll be a good trip from the beginning of his solo stuff to his most recent. He's not afraid to try something new...... He's also worked with Blackfield and No-Man. Storm Corrosion is a spectacular album in my opinion, which he created with Mike Akerfeldt from Opeth.

This song, this album, then the 2 albums that followed (although all are great) are perfection in my humble opinion. In every way... Musicianship, production, arrangements. Wonderful stuff I go back to weekly

Their run from In Absentia to Deadwing to Fear of a Blank Planet is about as good as any three-album run from any band ever.

The keyboard featured here that you couldn't quite put your finger on is the mellotron, a very underutilized instrument nowadays, but very common in PT productions. Gives their music this subtle, 60s/70s vibe.

Fun fact about the clapping is that it’s supposed to mimic the sound of the railroad tracks when you ride in a train. That’s why it’s not straight forward tempo clapping like let’s say a Boston song, but it’s quite syncopated.

Was just rewatching their documentary. Most of the band members either initially disliked this song or didn't think it would be a fan favorite. Wouldn't even play it live till fans started inquiring about it after shows. It's definitely in my Top 20 all time. Awesome take Geebz. Awwrighht! 🤘

Alright!.....now need to do some "Riverside" or "Lunatic Soul" since Steven Wilson has done at least one collaboration with MARISA DUDA. Maybe "Lost", "Embryonic" or "Lament" form Riverside, or "Adrift", "Lunatic Soul", or "Suspended in Whiteness" from Lunatic Soul.

The clapping passage is meant to mimic the sound of a train passing. Which is something I didn't catch on the first listen and something I thought was really cool. One of my favorite PT songs. I highly recommend checking out the live version (I think it's the one in Chicago). It's my favorite version. I'm also wondering if you're going to check out the new PT song that just dropped, Harridan? I'm so pumped for the new album.

Hey Geebz! You should do some Riverside! My favorite one is "Goodbye Sweet Innocence" from their 2011 album "Memories in my Head" but it's their least listened song on spotify LOL. Wouldn't be a good introduction I guess! More popular ones by them: O2 Panic Room / Lost (why should i be frightened by a hat?) / The Same River

There's just something magical about this era PT that makes me nostalgic and wistful for my teenage years in the mid-2000s. I only got into them about two years ago, so it's not nostalgia, there's just something sonic captured there. Hard to explain.
