Just say you don't understand the rules of basketball. Straight from the rule book Rule no. 10 section II part d - A player who is dribbling may not put any part of his hand under the ball and (1) carry it from one point to another or (2) bring it to a pause and then continue to dribble again. Hand MUST be under the basketball, not on the side or behind, but under the basketball.

So many people calling this a carry its not. He lifted the ball to show you the path you're taking. If you're in full motion the ball won't get scooped up. This is a clean move but it's definitely a move that can cause a person to carry.
