I looooooove your gear and hope I can afford it some day. I'm only a hobbyist with mental illness so it's a reach. I dont get gear envy though, I'm just happy to see it being used in learned hands. Seeing Daniel's impression of power supply ripple has me in splits every time I think of it. Thanks for the great content yourselves.

The best KZbin walk thru video of the 1200x-series. I really apricate your time to do this long and in depth scope reviews! Quick Note/update: on the latest 1200x-gen (new 2-ch scopes in black released now in 2020, and with latest 2020-firmware for this 1204A/G scope) they have all full access to the complete memory of the MegaZoom IV ASIC (now 4 M points in total; 2 Mp/ch for 2ch scope/mode; 1 Mp/ch for 4ch mode). The previous 1100x-series (white versions), and with the previous firmware for this1204A/G (probably what you had during your review), only had 1 M points - in total (which is quite small by modern standards). So now we have at least four times more memory, and full usage of the MZ IV ASIC.

I as really happy to see them increase the memory - even though it is not a ton - it does make it much more usable. Great scopes and a great price - for one of the big boys. I think if they tried a sale price at 30% off - they might see that they could kill the market using their name and competing strongly with the low cost scopes. I appreciate your feedback - thank you!

This is nice long review. I like this form that demonstrates what the instrument is capable to do and how UI is used. I would like to mention that newer models of DSOX1000 series (check the S/N) can be upgraded by firmware and keysight finally released software decode options for free, enabled at least 2Mpts memory and 200k waveform update rate. You have to pay only for bandwidth options.

I don't know if I missed it but you didn't try the serial bus features on this device, i've been using it to solve an i2C problem on a bus and its proven really handy, it also does UART, SPI, RS232 and even tells you what each byte is in hexidecimal on the measurements. It's a really nice scope.

I have just found out that KZbin has "un-liked" a lot of videos, including this video. I like every video you make and in particular those I comment on. But this video is no longer made with my like. I do of course re-like it:-)
@KissAnalog

Wow - that's not good that KZbin would do that. I wonder if it is just bugs. I have spent hours responding to comments - only to find down the road that my comments were not taken and all that time was lost. Plus, there's the people who took time to write - and were probably disappointed not to see my response...

Siglent 1204e-x $749. DSOX $2014. Many 4 channel scopes suffer the dreaded "select o' channel and putz around method" for moving your channels about, rather than have vertical positioning controls for each channel.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 4 жыл бұрын
You are right - and that's one of the reasons why I went with the GW Instek MDO. I don't mind a slightly wider footprint for the ease of functionality. The Siglent 4 channel was on my list too as I think they are great scopes.

LOL oh, and I who thought you only could get Keysight by searching in dumpsters:-) Even that I am not in the market for a new scope, I do enjoy the whole review. :-) One thing I do really appreciate is the fact that you have used time to learn the instrument, not just open and stumble around! I do also like that you take the "same" time to go trough the important features, no matter if it is "Hong Ling Crash" or "Oh holy gear", please please do never change that!! :-)

@@KissAnalog I liked the FFT had center freq and span. Did not like the lack of scales. I am assuming since the Instek is a MDO with a SA, you really do not need a FFT on Instek? The Siglent seemed not so good. I have a more advanced Siglent and will try to reproduce your test 1K, 2v Sq.Wave?

Everyone watching is presumably is familiar with things like phantom power. It doesn't take 2 to 5 minutes to explain that you are going to turn it off and check for phantom power. What I want, and maybe this will eventually get there, is some way to distingish this from Rigol and Siglent. 1. Fan noise is apparently less (better) than either. 2. Overall appearance is nice; dark grey neither white (distracting) or black (cannot see the knobs). 3. Interrupt...

They do have an option (DSOX1EMBD) that provides the triggering option. Otherwise I think it’s pins 2 and 3 that you monitor.

looks like a hell of a scope, how does it connect to ac mains with its probes, meaning does it have decent isolation so it doesn't blow up when you plug a probe into it, it certainly has a lot of nice features.
@KissAnalog
@KissAnalog 5 жыл бұрын
RonPaulgirls Yes it is a great scope, but still no isolation at the inputs. So if you are doing mains work - care must be taken. HV Differential probes are a great choice.

@@KissAnalog thanks for all your work.....i was going to experiment with a hantek 65 dollar current clamp connected to a hantek 5000 series to see how this ac monitoring might work.....and if the whole thing blows up, i'm only out a few hundred dollars, in which case i'll upgrade to equipment designed for ac analysis......

@RonPaulgirls
@RonPaulgirls 5 жыл бұрын
@@KissAnalog right, thanks the micsig probe looks like the ticket, the hantek probe looks like too much of a hassle with the degaussing and so on....the miscig probe looks like at least a decent entry level probe that i can experiment with till i learn what i really need.......thanks again for all of your info, it looks like the sane combo would be something like a handheld fluke or equivalent for maybe around 1500 dollars with isolation and a flash drive, which could then go into something like the keysight or whatever with advanced waveform spectrum analysis features or whatever....the handheld part being important for quick data collection

I am no expert!! But if anyone can use my 16 years of knowledge producing radio and TV, please just ask, there are a lot of neat tricks on how to save time, make recording easier and get easier time with editing. :-) But do also remember that a real great made documentary is about max 5 min of useful recording for every hour and 4 hours recherche and planning for every 1 hour recording. So 30 min finished is at least 6 hours recording and 24 hours of planning when you want a well made documentary! On the other hand is editing a fast-ish job:-)
