Night riding is how a lot of people start out. Skii clubs at high Schools are a big reason. They go up after school on Fridays and ride until closing. Another reason is a lot of mountains have cheaper night passes. I rode exclusively nights for years. Best night shots I have ever seen. Usually hard to see anything.
